Gamefly?

Hello my fellow Escapians!

As you know, this fall there are a ton of games coming out. Our wallets are screaming their heads off at the emptiness they will soon feel, as our pockets will be deprived of any form of objects with money value at all.

But there is hope, a mythical rental service called Gamefly.

Supposedly, when you sign up for gamefly, you are allowed to rent up to 2 games at once (depending on your plan) and there are no late fees. You can keep them as long as you want, provided you keep paying the montly fee of $22.95 a month.

Now, I plan on using this prestegious service, but I would like some opinions on it first before diving head first in a possible pool filled with acid.

So, if any of you have Gamefly, what are your thoughts on it? Were there any problems you encountered during your subscription? Was the service top notch or bottom of the barrel?

Gamefly is notoriosly cheap, with 2 games going for $120 at a time you'd be saving up to $100 if you went with Gamefly.

You've got it right and once you've been a member in good standing for a few months you can up your plan to 3 or 4 games at a time if you want to. I personally think they're great. No complaints whatsoever. They continue to grow their whole business model and get better over time. The perks and benefits you get are second to none. I wouldn't even bother with another online service. I know a lot of people buy used games from them but you get even better deals there when you're a subscriber with an additional 10% off the sale price and, if you've got gamefly $$ (a coupon they send you every couple months) you can knock another $5 off and they all ship free and with all the original packaging and manuals.

If you sign up via their superfan contest page you'll get entered into a drawing for a $1000 they're giving away each week in October. Kinda late in the month but still worth mentioning. Who wouldn't like an extra grand these days? I honestly don't know why this hasn't been mentioned or promoted more but for some reason it's gone under the radar.

I dunno, I had Gamefly for a while, but I wasn't impressed. I'd get a game and send it back and it would take them a week to even change the status to returned, and I know that I was sending them to a place that is 2 day transit from where I live. Then after that they'd take 2 to 3 days to send the next game in my queue out, tack on another 2 for it to arrive, etc.

Then, you have their prices that just keep going up, up, and up. First it was 2 games for 8.99 a month, then they brought it up to 12.95, then 15.95, and these days I believe the 2 game plan is 22.95 a month.

For 22.95 a month I can go and rent 5 games from local shops, each for 5 days per rental. So, for me I just prefer to head over to Movie Gallery and pick up games, sure it's slightly less convenient than just having the games appear in my mailbox, but it's cheaper, and I have less headaches.

Before they got their distribution centers figured out things used to be on the slower side but these days I never wait more than 3 days for a game and I've consistently gotten new release games sent out on the day of release for months now. If I'm not mistaken they often do an introductory rate of $8.95 for the first month and then it goes to the regular price of $15.95 or thereabouts after that. That's for 1 game at a time. It's been $22.95/mo. for the 2 games at a time plan for a while. I haven't seen the price go up.

In my mind the first time you rent a crappy game and get to send it back the service has paid for itself. Ultimately, your gaming habits will dictate how you go about getting games. For me, gamefly's the only way to go but everyone's got their preferences.

I love my subscription, even though that now I'm in Japan it is harder to use it. Still, the benefits of being able to get a game at -10% and $5 off is pretty nice.

gamefly kicks so much ass. I've played every game thats come out in the past 6 months and iv'e only payed a fraction of the price to buy all of them

Serves me well. I wish the envelope's weren't in bad shape when they arrive though...but that's the USPS's fault.
