Okay...

I just finished watching MovieBob's The Game Overthinker Ep. 51. [http://screwattack.com/videos/TGO-Episode-51-Putting-The-Cart-Before-The-Cloud] Aside from the newer storyline (which I find to be getting a bit old) I think that MovieBob has some valid points on the subject of finding an intermediate solution on game storage medium between CD/DVD/Blu-Ray and "The Cloud." The idea of using a USB flash drive or a SanDisk memory card (which all three consoles can at least use on or the other) for game data and rewriteable data storage seems to be a real possibility.

Your thought, guys/gals?

Jesus christ, what is with all this 'story' crap? Does anybody actually care about that shit?

edit: Also, I think that suggesting video games would never have moved beyond arcades if this guy didn't invent the game cartridge is a bit ridiculous. If he hadn't done it, somebody else would have. Not that this diminishes the achievement at all.

edit 2: Bob's point about not needing a HDD on a console is a load of rubbish as well, especially in this DLC-focused day and age.

The DLC could be put on said "cartridge" as hard data that can't be altered.

Do you mean before or after the release of the game?
I don't know... They might try the Extra Credits method and put it on before and charge for its initial access.

Or it could be after if programmers could rig it to not be alterable once it is stored.

Which then limits the potential amount of DLC that can be released for a game. We wouldn't have got the New Vegas DLC going by that method.

I really want to watch this, but I decided a few episodes ago that it is indeed over when the fat man LARPs. Perhaps I'll man up and take a look anyway, since this subject has been on my mind a lot lately.

Wahey! He got rid of that anti thinker crap. I still don't think that it's as good as it used to be though.

The storyline stuff seems silly, but at least this time it's separate from the actual content, and it's all harmless for the most part.

As for said content?
A very good idea, all things considered. A good way to use the updated technology to make an old concept relevant again, and used in a practical manner. But no publisher or console maker would ever go with it. Charging less for games with little content when players are more than happy to buy it at $60? How about asking them to make DLC free while we're at it? A good idea, not that hard to pull off, but near impossible to get implemented.

Considering how ISPs are doing everything in their power to screw over the consumer, "The Cloud" seems to be looking farther and farther away, so a temporary solution would be a great idea.
