Gamer Girlfriend?

I'm not sure if this makes me a "bad" gamer or not, but usually when I get a girlfriend I stop gaming pretty much altogether. I mean, I really love most forms of entertainment so I'll watch TV or a movie with her rather than play something that she either can't or doesn't want to be a part of. That being said, if I could find a girl who I can share my love of games with and talk about the state of gaming as a whole, then you'd better believe I'm slapping a ring on that finger ASAP. ;)

If I ever find a girl with whom I can argue about whether New Vegas was better than Fallout 3, I will toss my hands into the air and thank God, but I wouldn't say it's a necessary trait. If I considered it necessary, my chances of finding someone would probably go from slim to none.
While I think Fallout 3 was pretty good, but New Vegas improved on ALOT of things, mainly story and quests which all felt realted in some way, and also the Karma systm and moral choices much much better...

well anyway me and my ex used to both be gamers, he even lent me his ps2 before I got a decent PC (then I played bioshock...holy crap!! what ever that was I wanted more! and the rest is history) I think I was probably into it more than him

still havnt given back the Ps2 though......

Blah, I don't know how you deal with that. Someone trying to cuddle with you when you're gaming. It almost NEVER works out. They either get annoyed by me playing, or I just give up because I can't get comfortable trying to play/see what the hell I'm doing on screen. Disappointments all around on that topic.
This. Lol. My last girlfriend HATED games so much, but she was willing to at least let me play every once in a while, but then after 10 minutes she'd either sigh really loudly or ask about every last thing to the point where id just give up. Plus for me, it breaks the whole immersion factor when you've got someone either with you or talking to you.

I think couples should have similar interests, of course.
A girl dating a gamer who doesn't like games would be rather... ridiculous.
Now, I understand that everyone has their own hobbies, but when it's a huge part of someone's life, the person in the relationship at least should be okay with it.

But, there's obviously the benefits of having a boyfriend/girlfriend that loves all the things you do ^_^

Well then I'd say that was a profitable exchange. I liked New Vegas more than Fallout 3 primarily because even at high levels, I still had a toy-box full of weapons I used in different situations. My silent sniper rifle for long-range stealth, my minigun with armor-piercing rounds for deathclaws, and my hunting shotgun and light machine gun for Legionaries. It was all great fun :)

My girlfriend plays on my PS3 more than me I reckon. She just beat LittleBigPlanet 2 I believe and I'ms till in the second world. Personaly a gamer girlfriend wasn't an important thing, but now if I was to break up with her (which I'm not likely to) I would have to have have a lady friend to love AND to enjoy games with.

I'd say it dosent matter a few years ago when i was still in school, and i had days off galore and hardley no hw and just endless time. Its much diffrent now that i have a job (i love btw) and a roof over my head. The time i have is for my gaming. If i cant find a girl who dosent share my passion for gaming or dosent even like to game then na. I'll be single forever then i dont care. I've always been a lone wolf myself anyways.

give me my job give me my nice appartment then suplly me with Starcraft 2 and a decent internet. Thats all i need. Man am so gratful for what i have. (Hums what a wonderful world)

Hehe, I'm not sure. It feels natural to me, and so long as we don't do anything too flirty/distracting I play as good if not better when shes by my side. Her warmth helps me relax and play better under intense situations that might otherwise frustrate me to a small degree. :3

Though, to each their own? :)
I suppose. But this next quote is essentially what it came down to.

Well, the ones I've dated haven't hated games necessarily, but when playing them in the presence of said women, it just ends badly. The sigh is the red flag, and just them sitting there with that stupid face on annoys the shit out of me. If you don't want me to play while you're around, just say it. Don't let me start playing a game and then complain about it when I'm half way through another level or something. Or the best is "You're still playing that game?" Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to go buy a new game today. Let me cut some of my funding that goes to our dates so I can go fund my hobby some more which you absolutely LOVE.

I've yet to meet an actual "Girl gamer". Any of the ones that say they are just play Mario Kart and think they're Gods at it...until I play them. I crush their childhoods in one fell swoop.
Wait so I have to be good at a game to be a girl gamer? Can't I just enjoy the games I play?

Wow, sounds... distracting. o_O

One thing I want when I'm gaming is to be left alone, unless playing split-screen of course. But then we're more likely to punch each other than cuddle. xD

Oh, no no no, I don't mean it like that. They just shit talk about how good they are at it and I just nod and go along with it and I bust out my N64 or SNES (whichever version they prefer) and proceed to devastate them. They brought it on themselves. I sound like an asshole, but they all say they don't want me to go easy on them...so I don't.

I don't really mean to inject all of this negativity into my posts about "girl gamers"(I dislike that term anyways), but I've just had a few interesting relationships with these so called women.

Love what you do, really, I honestly mean that. I sure do, and I don't let anyone affect that.

Personally, I wouldn't date a girl who was an uber-hardcore, or even someone who plays games regularly (by "regular", I mean more than 12 hours/week). I'd prefer a girl who maybe logs onto Facebook to check her crops (or whatever it is people do in Farmville) every now and then when she can get access to a PC.

The deal is that I'd prefer someone who would complement me: the Mary Jane Watson to my Peter Parker, or the Lois Lane to my Clark Kent. Someone who keeps me focused and grounded on things in the real world, someone who doesn't share my 4 hour/day habit.

Yeah, things might be rocky, but I always thought that you were supposed to work things out in relationships, learn to accept the quirks and habits of your partner and whatnot.

Thats actually really sweet, and I guess what attracts me to the women I've been describing in my posts. Its just that I haven't really found many who accept my habits as I accept theirs. Very one-sided relationships have left me jaded. =/

She grew up with a N64 and Zelda among some of the games, her mom is a former WoW addict (now converted to Evony), but not really a "gamer". She still likes me though :)

If the issue is Fallout and that she's having a difficult time getting into it, why don't you try getting her to play Oblivion first? I mean, a lot of it is the same, just substituting hostile post-apocalyptic terrain with hostile fantasy terrain, radiation with the vampire disease, etc, but I find Oblivion a lot easier. The compass is easier to read, for one, and it's easier to keep weapons in repair. Plus the main storyline has always taken less time for me.

Also, if gaming is an integral part of your life, it's probably good to have a girlfriend that's into the same thing. Not even for the 'gaming' aspect, just that sharing interests are important. I mean, if you went to the opera every weekend you wouldn't date a girl who listened to nothing but Justin Beiber, right?

My wife and I actually met via our shared hobby, so yep I'd consider it to be pretty important.

Also having a gamer s/o is awesome.
