Indeed, I hope my future potential girlfriend likes games, in fact I don't really know why I'd have a girlfriend who wasn't interested in games unless she was a martial artist or something (Not saying I'm picky so much as those are two interests, that's where I'd meet girls).

Perhaps you should try to build her up to the Fallout: New Vegas level before throwing her into like a child to the wolves.

For me as long as she tolerates my gaming ways that's all that matters to me. A serious gamer gf would kinda get on my nerves if there was only one console between us, mainly because I own almost only single player games without co-op.

I'm the gamer of the couple, I wish my boyfriend would play video games instead of watching TV.. Oh wait, scratch that, he plays Pokemon. Whoop-dee-doo. I'm gonna have to buy him a gaming PC and a bunch of Steam games if he even thinks he's going to live with me.. -.-

Gamer girlfriend? Gee if I didn't have a boyfriend and my ex-best friend suddenly came back into my life and declared her love for me, that would be.. AWEEESSSOOOMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEE WE COULD PLAY ALL SORTS OF GAMES TOGETHER!!!

Well, after he told us that. We went to the doctor to see if he had a learning disability. The good news is, he doesn't. The bad news is, every time time we play a new game we overly explain what every button does to tease him.

Like I said, he must have been determined, I have no clue how he didn't figure it out.

My boyfriend and I are pretty fortunate in that we share a very similar taste in games. And we're even more fortunate to both end up being game developers working at the same exact company, even though we came from different academic backgrounds. There are a few other big interests in my life that he doesn't share, but it's not such a big deal to me.

I've never had a girlfriend that played games beyond Flash games and silly ones on Facebook.
I would like it very much if I could find a girl who was into games, but not obsessively. It'd just be another thing we could do together.

My girlfriend just bought her own 360 so she wouldn't have to keep stealing mine. I've gotten her quite a few games for birthdays/Christmas too; she's been a fan of the Baldur's Gate series long before I got in to RPGs at all. I started in the RTS category where she began in RPGs.

She doesn't like FPS's though, at least not the multiplayer aspect. She doesn't like getting beat, and doesn't want to spend enough time on them so she doesn't get beat. I think I can live with that though. :p

My SO loves it when I play games with him. It's a common interest, which is good for a relationship.

Damn...I don't want to think about him trying to play a Richard Garriot RPG

Lol, I am the Gamer Girlfriend. I'm mostly a math geek, but I'll sink hours into L4D2, SC2, Guilty Gear, Blazblue, and anything my sweetie wants to play.
But lately I can't play much because of schoolwork and keeping up with my studies. So I just play a FFA 4 round of Starcraft with my squeeze and his roommates on their extra computer between readings. He can brag about his wicked Zerg tech all he wants, I still have my 4.0 GPA. ;P

Not having a console hampers my ability to share gaming with my gf, but she does enjoy watching me play WoW as I explain the Lore of where I am at (History dork porting over to WoW). Confuses the hell outta me, but I appreciate that she is trying to share some of my interests. And she got an idea from a guildy (Ultor, you are a god amongst men) of mine and decided to try and "distract" me from the game. Yeah, I quickly forgot about the game.

If I ever find a girl with whom I can argue about whether New Vegas was better than Fallout 3, I will toss my hands into the air and thank God, but I wouldn't say it's a necessary trait. If I considered it necessary, my chances of finding someone would probably go from slim to none.
I'm one X3

OT: As a Gaming Girlfriend, it makes the relationship that much better

I think gaming culture and just games in general are so ingrained into me that it would be near impossible for me to have a significant other that didn't have at least some appreciation for games. Then again I've never had a significant other so I can't exactly say what I would put up with or what I would expect out of my girlfriend. Only time will tell I suppose.

Though I have just stared in utter confusion at some of my friends choices in girls considering that they don't even understand the simplest of gaming discussion or nerdy jokes.

Bah.................. ¬_¬ Another 'girl gamer', thread..........?
Female gamer here, husband isn't a gamer, it bothers me, but I don't try to change him OR make threads about it, OR laugh at his noobish attempts to game OR actually give a damn as long as he doesn't interfere with my gaming, like wanting watch TV programmes on my TV ¬_¬ Like he did last night (just started a retro session on Jade Empire too............) He's on thin ice.....

Although I am single at the moment my boyfriend would have to deal with me being more of a gamer than him.

I really only want a relationship with someone that I have things in common with and since most of my life consists of movies and games my boyfriends would have to be the same.

My GF thinks my gaming habits are lame. Still loves me though.

She's the most casual of casual gamers. The occasional stint on a Space Invaders emulator or a dabble on Jewels.

I don't try to change her, she doesn't try to change me. Perhaps that's why we work...

My wife played WAAAAYYYY too much video games, so I divorced her nerdy ass. It was embarrassing.

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous, I mean it occasionally happens that I beat a game and find out there were things I didn't know... but not knowing how to AIM, in a game filled with guns? It's like he played it in a restrictive challenge :D
