Discussion: Does it matter to you if your Significant Other plays games or at least tries to play them. And are you like me in which seeing them try just fills you up with some sort of joy.

So the other day I was talking to my girlfriend about the game Fallout New Vegas. I realized that in the past month I had spent over 90 hours of gameplay on it. She called me crazy said I was a loser, jokingly only though. I told her that she just had no idea. The game was huge tons of stuff to do and was incredibly fun. She mentioned that she wanted to see what I was talking about so I told her that she should try and beat the game. Now she isn't really a gamer to say the least. She'll play Black Ops with her brother and any Sonic game, even the bad ones, and some DDR. But when I told her that she'd have a lot of trouble beating the game she took it on as a challenge. I helped her of in the first few minutes today. I told her what stats to use and sort of explained the game to a very un-game savvy person. After about 20 minutes on her own she still had no idea what the compass was trying to do and as much as i tried to explain vats to her she still didn't attempt to use it. She gave up for the day when she couldn't find the flowers needed to get through the tutorial. Though I'm sort of proud of her for even trying to get involved in something that I spend a lot of time on I hate to say that I find it hilarious that she can't even figure out the simplest of things. I'm being very patient with her and it's hard to explain something over Xbox Live chat. I really do hope that she can get the hang of the game and let it be one more thing to talk about.
Uh oh. Your shouldn't try to teach her how to play Fallout New Vegas, at least not on the 360. New Vegas is chocked full of bugs, and the least buggy platform is the PC, but its still a buggy game. Brilliant but buggy. I'm saying this because she might get frustrated when it bugs out.

A good game to introduce people to gaming is Minecraft...although you NEED to teach them because Minecraft is hard to figure out for anyone!
Hahaha she didnt even play long enough for it to glitch out. She stopped after an hour and said it was hard and boring. I said just like her ex-boyfriends dick? and she said not that bad! alright good story im gonna go now hahaha

Well the first problem I don't have a girlfriend nor have I ever been in a relationship. It kinda sucks sometimes. But would it matter to me if she doesn't like video games? No. Would it be nice if she did? Yes. Would I try to get here into video games? Depends on how open she is to it.

We've played games side by side before; then we'd look at the time, look at each other, and exclaim, "Sh!t! We could've been f#cking!"

Then we'd go back to playing games.

My gf and I both play games. I play more than her, but she likes to play games with me on occasion, which is cool.

I'm sort of a gamer, not quite casual but I have terrible aim and worse reaction time so I tend to go easymode. I just want to see the story and get my heartrate up a little. I'm not sure if that qualifies me as a gamer girlfriend, or gamer ex-girlfriend I guess. I greatly enjoy games but there is a certain amount of what Yahtzee compared to watching a cat try to fly a kite. You sure as HELL won't catch me playing farmville though. I lose enough hours to WoW... Also, if I wanted to play a farming game I'd get Harvest Moon.

It's pretty much top of my list, and probably half the reason I'm single.

The other three-quarters being lack of confidence and inability to communicate.

I am 125% a generic, pathetic, nerd.

I'm waaaay more a gamer than my husband. He likes Call of Duty, Halo, and I was quite happy that I got him engrossed in RDR. I used to try hard to get him into RPG's, but that was like 5 years ago in high school. He's patient with me when I ramble on about a game, but he did tell me I wasn't allowed to play Dragon Age anymore because I play it too much. It would be nice if he was more into it, but then again I'm not good enough about sharing the TV to make that work well.

My girlfriend loves Portal and can't wait for Portal 2. She recently asked me to show her Minecraft

Obviously, someone who is able to accept that I'm a gamer is a must. I do know that if I did have a girlfriend, I wouldn't be spending nearly as much time playing games than I do now. Of course that all depends on whether or not my girlfriend is a big gamer or not. :p

We're both gamers, in fact we MET because of games. Our relationship is really good. It does help that we have yhe same taste in games.

My roomate is a girl and she's twitchy insane about Squeenix. If I have to hear about how FF8 is better than FF7 again I may just kill myself.

It's a small bonus to have a girlfriend who games but it's not important. Wayyyyyy more important for her to tolerate my hobbies as much as she expects me to tolerate hers. If my next girlfriend is the type that expects me to sit on the lounge with her watching shitty tv shows, barred from reading or pulling out my PSP during said shows, when I could be doing something far more interesting or at least far more tolerable there will be a homicide.

This is a HUGE plus for me, in fact, it may be one of the main things I look for in a girlfriend (not saying that if she doesn't like games then I'd reject her, it's just a major plus if she does like them). I love it when my friends have common interests, and if my girlfriend has an interest in my favorite hobby, then that's just awesome

However, I like it even more when they don't really play video games, but are willing to learn. While I don't like to brag, I consider myself really knowledgeable in video games, so a situation like this will give me a chance to be the master, a teacher who shows someone the ropes and basics, then move on up until she's able to hold her own against anyone. I've never ACTUALLY experienced this, but I'd love to someday

I does not matter to me if they play or not. My girlfriend does not play a lot of games but she does on occasion give it a go, she has an xbox and does enjoy Fable 2 (not so much Fable 3). However it does mean a lot to me that she does give gaming a try, especially when she does it just to make me happy.
