The amount of misogyny in this thread is appalling. Here is your proof that female gamers are brushed off as "fake girl gamers". Does your hatred know no end? Why are you so offended when a woman dares to play your beloved video games? Isn't there enough room for everyone?

Females have feelings too, as shocking as it is for you to hear it.

She isn't attractive.

1.) She has gigantic breasts. Those just look horrible.
2.) She wears glasses. Those are always terrible looking.
3.) Suspenders? Really? Come on now, at least wear a nice sun dress.
4.) She looks like she is 40. Who finds this attractive?
5.) Her face just looks gaunt as hell. Does she cosplay as Skeletor on the side?

I am serious, why would anyone find this attractive? Who is this going toward? People who like overly large breasted elderly women?
erm.....

I'm not sure what your going for here but its not "pro women" to start nitpicking and demeaning this models appearance...

anyway.....at first I was like *sigh* heeeeeeeeerrreee we go

but then I was like oh....oh yeah thats uh...pretty bad, though TBH this looks like straight fetishism...

I have to wonder if there is actually a market for this, because we see pretty consistently this sort of marketing in gaming and I don't know where they get it from. Sometimes it's large companies that miss the point and can afford to, but...if they didn't generate profit, surely people would learn?

Who are you talking to? I mean are you talking to people saying that this is crappy pandering and they hate it? Or the people that are are saying it's not for me but who am I to judge? Because those appear to be the most common ideas in this thread.

... Who is this even for? I... do not know. The idea that this is for female gamers (Which by the way are no different than male gamers)and anyone serious about, well any aspect of gaming is not just as far separated from Texas to China but more like Earth to the Horsehead Nebula. I... I just don't know who wants to read this, pictures only may get some fap happy bastard but damn I have found fake porn covers that hold more interesting articles in their nonexistent pages, even fake furry porn covers can do better.

Heh. In before it becomes a huge success. Remember that one company that was selling a service where you could talk to a girl over Xbox Live while you play games? Remember how everyone laughed at it? Remember how when the service launched they were flooded with more customers than they could keep up with? Never underestimate the profitability of the lonely nerd.
Seriously that was a thing? Wow.

I really do not get this at all. Like, this weird fetishism of girl gamers I hear people talking about has absolutely no correlation to the actual experience of being a female gamer so I'm just like ????????????????.
Eh, people have different experiences, you know? I mean, I hear non-stop about how women are degraded and picked on for being gamers, yet I've never had that experience myself. As a matter of fact, I've never been treated as anything but a gamer who happens to be girl, bar the occasional white knighting from guys who think I'm some great martyr for being a female gamer - which honestly, is something I find more annoying than trash talk.
It's always fun to come across someone who has had basically a completely different experience than you while doing the same things.
It makes me always curious. Like - what kind of games do you play? Do you play online with strangers a lot?
I do wonder why some people experience it and some don't. But it seems to be kinda random to me.

Anyway, point is, there is no "actual experience of being a female gamer." Everyone has different experiences. There's probably been plenty of women who got a tidal wave of romantic attention for being gamers - just because you aren't on of them, doesn't mean they're not there.
Ugh it's annoying how typing the wrong word makes you sound like you're talking about a completely different thing. I thought I had typed `MY` actual experience rather than `THE` actual experience. My bad.

I don't play a lot of shooters, which seems to be a very vitriolic community in general, so that probably has something to do with it. Most of my experience gaming with strangers comes from MMOs - I used to be really into World of Warcraft a few years back, and played as a female character. I got treated with respect, for the most part. Of course, I usually played healer and support types, so pissing me off meant they'd have no one to patch 'em back up after battle.

I did eventually fall off the WoW bandwagon, though, so I suppose the community might've gotten more hostile to women in recent years and I just haven't been around to get any of it. But I don't remember any negative treatment for being a girl...

My only experience with shooters came from a few months of playing Shadowrun, and that's where I got the martyr treatment. Guys going out of their way to drop me ammo or that... glowy tree thingy that restored health. That got annoying fast.

Well is pretty bad, just as a spectacle if nothing else. Even if the moral stuff doesn't bother you, it's just...so tacky. It's so, so, bad. I've seen amateur pornography with better quality than this. I've no problem with the idea of women being paid to model anything they like. I'm more irked about how half assed it is, the fact that this is clearly aimed at /me/ because the publisher still thinks it's 1980s and all Nerds/Geeks are still desperate basement dwellers who've never touched a woman in their life, as well as the fact that someone Asian is labelled exotic like we've just discovered the east.
Which "moral stuff", really? What's immoral about a magazine where enhanced women dress up in silly costumes and pose half-naked for the camera? Do we live in the 1950s or what? And what makes you think it's aimed at you? It clearly doesn't float your boat, so you clearly aren't the target audience. And whoever likes the style, likes the style. So again: Where's the problem?

elvor0 said:
It's just how terrible this thing is, in every aspect imaginable. From models, to topic, to technical, to presentation, and the writing. Anyone with the ability to read, heck just eyes, can see how fake and dodgy everything is. I mean does anyone seriously get aroused by having a controller placed next to a woman? If the illusion is shattered on page 1 what exactly is there for me to get attracted to?
Why the fuck do you get worked up about this not attracting you? You don't like it, so don't read it. Or is your real problem, that there's a "Gamer"/"Nerd"-Playboy around (really can't put enough "" around the words gamer and nerd there), which doesn't cater to your specific needs?

elvor0 said:
Furthermore of all, like I said in my first post, who is this /for/ exactly? I mean nobody with any degree of pride would seriously buy this in the shop. If you're really desperate to see "gamer girls" fake or otherwise, the internet exists. You could go there to fap. Heck they could've made this an online site and it would've sold better. People barely buy "lads mags" in the shop anymore let alone something as pandering, ill thought out or reeking of desperation as this.
It's made for whoever buys it. It really is that simple.

elvor0 said:
Finally, it is gaming related, so I thought I'd post it. I mean this is a gaming forum, and would've likely made itself to the offical Escapist front page come Monday.
Not saying you shouldn't post about or it's quality, it's just the "ERMAGAWD DEMEANING, SEXIST, RACIST!!!!111" sentiment, that getting on my nerves and that I find completely pointless in this context. As said, it's a glamour-magazine with a vague gamer/nerd/geek-theme. That's all there is.
Well there's nothing immoral about it. You're the one who bought up "moral policing" in the first place. Presumably you saw something that could be construed as immoral or you wouldn't have said it, I just bought it up as a "point and laugh" thing. And you can't do journalism without sensationalist headlines! Yeah I'm not gonna even try and argue that I wasn't being sensationalist.

I'm a gamer/geek/nerd whatever you want to call it, given the outdated, hackneyed content, I'm pretty sure I'm the target audience. Even if you only shrink that to the truely stereotypical ones, a big part of the stereotype these days is that they spend all their time AT THE COMPUTER. Why should they go to the shop to buy a magazine when they have all the high speed pornography in the world at their finger tips. It's like me trying to market Hugh Hefner this scaggy whore I found in an alley over his army of playboy bunnies.

Yeah it's made for whoever buys it, but who would that be exactly? Like I've said, the internet exists. You can literally type in "gamer girl porn" right now, it's free, and actually of much better quality photography wise and doesn't have that cringe inducing writing. You'd have to have absoloutely zero shame to buy something like this in the shop these days. I'm pretty sure I'd difficulty containing myself if someone bought it to the cash register.

Lastly, I wasn't actually saying it was demeaning to the women in it. They're paid to do it, just as I don't find proper pornography to be demeaning either (given decent working conditions etc). No no, it's demeaning to the whole sub-culture of geeks and gamers. In that they think we're dumb enough or desperate enough to buy into this "magazine". Even the people that are desperate enough for this, doubtless have access to a computer and at least some form of internet. There's a difference between porn and this. Porn at least isn't saying it's real. This is just cringeworthy, I mean they could at least /try/ to create the illusion that these women haven't been handed a script written by a 13 year old.

Obviously this isn't going to colour anyones opinion on the sub culture, most peoples minds are made up, and the only people who'll actually connect this with the culture are people who hate it already. Well unless it flys off the shelves in droves, in which case I don't want to live on this planet anymore. Have some quality control for your pornography!

I still maintain that calling the Asian woman exotic is an attitude that belongs in the 50s though, it's the 21st century, Asian people ain't exotic, there's quite a lot of them where I live of all shapes sizes and colours.

A lads mag with games and boobs in it sounds like a profitable idea to me. But I think it would need to have a main focus on games, reviews and previews. Rather than it being mostly a soft core porn mag.

The woman on the front is holding that controller like she's never held one in her life.

Also the porn bits, if they were going to bother having game stuff in them, would need to have accurate game stuff. Like obviously using an xbox controller for an xbox, otherwise it would be in the same league as stuff like the big bang theory.

Wow it's like Maxim magazine except instead of also having articles about beer, sports, other tech gadgets, this atrocity just talks (loosely) about games.

This has to be some kind of hipster hoax right? What person would actually buy that magazine and not feel like a complete tool who is being taken advantage of?

Also who the hell would pay for a magazine featuring semi naked chicks with controllers in theyr hands, when there are pictures of completly naked chicks for free everywhere this day and age( I bet some even with controllers in theyr hand even elsewhere).

Finally correct me if im wrong, but isn´t that china doll person holding her vita backwards? It looks like she is holding the thing with the screen pointing away from here. If she actually is than that would indeed be awesome.

Since female gamers make up almost half the population of gamers total, perhaps someone needs to make a Game Hunks Magazine. Hire shredded fitness models and dress them in comic book stuff that still shows off chiseled abs while they play with a Xbox controller.

41 inch butt, mmmmmhmm Chyna Doll. :p

I'll be honest,

this is the most hilarious thing I've seen today. God, the puns are so utterly horrible I just don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Can't find it in myself to find it insulting or demeaning though. I mean I know it probably is, it just doesn't feel that way, there's this border where things just get too absurd to be insulting and this thing went right past that and just kept on going till it got out of sight.

It's a softcore porn mag with a video game/geek theme. Is it really so surprising that there may be quite a few people out there who is interested in such a thing? You can think of almost anything and there will be a sexual side to it, a kink that someone out there has. This is pretty tame in comparison to a lot of other sexual/pornographic stuff.

Geek porn. Yeah, there's a fanbase for it, and no, there's nothing wrong with it.

It's softcore porn like all lad's mags. How is it any more sexist or demeaning than any porn already in existence? Sex sells so likely that magazine will too, but I don't see any particular reason that this magazine should be branded sexist while FHM, Nutz or any lads mag, let alone any porn video or magazine, is not.

Anyone who decries this magazine as sexist and demeaning and who watches any porn or reads any other lads' mags is a hypocrite [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hypocrite]. This is a statement made without insult or judgement, a simple, inconvenient truth. It will probably appeal a niche/fetish for such things to those who are into that sort of thing.

Also, where does the racist accusation come from?
