Speaking as a graphic designer, that photoshop job is so horrible it's pushed the cover model into the Uncanny Valley.

Niche "Porn" magazines aren't anything too new.

It's done for guys and girls. Whilst it doesn't interest me any, I highly doubt any of those women are posing against their will.

"What superhero or villain do you identify with?"
"Flash because I love to flash people hahahaha"

Are you fucking kidding me? I don't know whether it's meant to be taken seriously and hated for it or is taking the complete piss out of gamer misconceptions and we're meant to roll our eyes uncontrollably at it. The only thing that could make it even more trashy is neon signposts pointing to the models' cleavage.

Yea but it's kinda funny when you look at the picture.

You think someone would noticed they airbrushed out her bellybutton the lack of left leg, and o god what happened to her right arm.
I think the office temp did the Photoshop job, or someone hates there job.

Aaand here's hoping this magazine won't be in stores for long.

Yep, I'm pretty sure this is the most insulting thing towards female gamers I've ever seen.

[small]Also, would you mind putting that magazine cover in spoiler tags? Like, Jesus Christ.[/small]
Most insulting thing toward female gamers? Hell no, this is clearly the most insulting thing toward ALL gamers. As a gamer and a man I am insulted on every possible level.

As a gamer: I'm trying to play games here, get your damn tits out my face.
As a man: I'm trying to get aroused here, lose the ridiculous Urkel glasses.
As a literate human being: I'm trying to read here, stop enslaving my precious words to your base lusts.

As anyone with even a single grain of sense: Posing attractive women this way does not endear them to gamers any more than putting half naked girls in blackface would endear them to the African-American community. To be more attractive to Japanese girls, shall I wear those glasses with the horrible slanty eyes on them? Or if I am attracted to a nice Jewish girl, would I garner her affections with a big plastic nose?

This insults me a hell of a lot more than when TV jokingly shows every Italian man as fat, a mafioso, or wearing a white tanktop and beating his wife. I mean, at least they're inviting me along on the joke. There's no joke here. This is... I mean... Is this a hate crime? I hate the very term hate crime, since if someone kills a person because they LOVE them it's still a damn murder, but seriously. I don't know where else to go with this. This might be a damn hate crime.

I'm really not seeing any semblance of an issue here.

Ultra-softcore porn magazines like this have existed forever. There's probably caveman drawings of attractive partially clad women making sexy faces.
The magazine clearly has no pretensions that the girls are anything other than models, so the people that complain about "fake gamer girls" don't really have anything to complain about.

This also isn't sexist in the slightest any more than any other porn is sexist. Women with attractive genetics decide to be models and make money for having their picture taken. Then the pictures get sold to guys (and girls) who want to see those attractive pictures in paper format. None of that process has anything to do with equality.

Honestly, I think this is just another stage of gaming entering the mainstream culture. Everything ever has a sexy girls magazine. If you can fit it in a picture, someone has posed half-naked women next to it. Cars, motorcycles, guns, flowers, houses, sports equipment, everything. It doesn't cheapen the object, the person in the picture or the person looking at the picture. Do you really think the girls from Guns And Lace care about firearms? This situation is no different.

Come to think of it, posing girls with gaming stuff isn't even a new thing. EGM did this almost a decade ago.

EDIT: I just realized you put "racist" in the thread title as well. I... just... don't even... Please be joking. Please please please.

Congratulations! We're officially a Sub-culture...complete with our own specifically marketed lad-mag!

Honestly, I'm surprised it took this long.

And while I'm not going to feign Nerd Rage at images of scantily clad busty women (because as a hetero-sexual male, I can't say it's not appealing), I'm annoyed that the current perception of the Gaming Community (if there is such a thing) is still about thirty years out of date.

Once again, there's a failure to truly understand what a diverse group of people we are. Whoever started this thing clearly believes that Nerds, Geeks and Gamers are all undersexed, anti-social teenage boys.

Except, of course, we're not.

So I wouldn't worry too much about it. According to the article, reaction has already been overwhelmingly negative. And I suspect this so-called magazine will probably be a distant memory within a month.

But it does make me wonder, as "Geek Chic" continues to gain popularity, what are WE doing to change the perception?

Granted this is niche market and most teens would just do a search for boobs on the internet. My issue is that gaming is always an issue in the spotlight, at the moment every death seems to be connected to gaming. Gaming itself is already considered sexist due to female characters and how male gamers treat woman online or during their job. Its more of a face palm thing because you know this mag will be treated way out of context to the non gaming public. It just reflects badly on gamers.

Oh come on ladies and gentlemen, why COULDN'T they be actual gamers who just HAPPEN to be scantily clad with large boobs and generously proportioned hips and "lower pads" (RRRwwwarr Chyna Doll).

I mean, glamour model gamer girls do exist...right? Right?

Who the fuck cares? It's a glamour-shot magazine with a vague gamer-theme attached to it (and mostly unattractive surgery- and photoshop-victims as models). What's the problem there? Nobody forces you to read it, none of the models were forced to model for it. Now stuff your moral police-sensability to where it belongs and try to find something to get het up about, that needs some attention.
It's the internet, also expect a puff piece about this on here by Monday.

She isn't attractive.

1.) She has gigantic breasts. Those just look horrible.
2.) She wears glasses. Those are always terrible looking.
3.) Suspenders? Really? Come on now, at least wear a nice sun dress.
4.) She looks like she is 40. Who finds this attractive?
5.) Her face just looks gaunt as hell. Does she cosplay as Skeletor on the side?

I am serious, why would anyone find this attractive? Who is this going toward? People who like overly large breasted elderly women?
I'd be willing to bet money that you're a girl, or a playing up this white knight thing... then again I've got a thing for older women so maybe I'm wrong.

Anyways why is everyone so upset? It doesn't look much different to the magazines I see at the checkout of a store. Seems to me like you're all over reacting.

Say what you want but those glasses are an abomination. So tacky, so classless. Seriously, why not a pair of elegant thin-rims instead, for cryin' out loud :(

Yeah, I think they were going for the sexy teacher look but those glasses just aren't up for the task... still, she could keep me after class for as long as she wants.

Very good point. It's either that or the publisher for that mag is just trolling us hard.

First off. My god what a sensationalist thread.

second while im always iffy to call something sexist, I see no problem with calling this a stupid magazine, its idiotic and im pretty sure that none of these women are gamers.

I watched a ign video where he interviewed alot of porn stars and all of them said mario, zelda, or "whos that guy in the suspenders?" except for bobbi starr. Her favorites were grim fandango and zorg. Fucking awesome lady to say the least.

The "Swag Level" and some of the quotes actually make me a tad suspicious that you're right.

Even if it is an actual attempt, I wouldn't be surprised if the idea came from a drunken bet between friends.
