The stereotype of a gamer is we are fat, lazy, we live in a basement with foam swords and a castle, and can always end up embarrassing ourselves. But I want to know is this true do some gamers really do this or is it just a false stereotype?

sadly the answer is yes
That reeks like a stale Something Awful joke that was funny for a few minutes in 1999. In fact, I'm pretty sure that it is Fragmaster doing his nerd skit.
post a link to prove it please. i want to believe i really do.

Fat? No. Tubby? A bit.
Lazy? Extremely so.
Live in a basement? No, I live in my room, and have no "foam swords" or "castles".
Can I always end up embarrassing myself? For a joke, absolutely. I believe that dignity can be compromised for the sake of humor.

Is this a bad joke? I mean, it's bad. But it's a joke, right?

its true... there are people like that who go on the school computers and play starcraft, and they cramp my style because i am known to like gaming and do a lot of work in the computer lab, but dont take gaming to that rediculouse point
Whats wrong with Starcraft?

BTW I'm not fat or lazy... or for that matter LARP. I am awkward though (but around EVERYONE male or female)

I know I'm fat and lazy, but I don't have foam swords or a castle or live in the basement. I live in a dorm room with a floor mattress and a pile of trash. I do have a friend who is also fat and lazy, and while he does sleep in his bedroom he spends the rest of the time awake in his basement playing PC games behind a fort made of guitar amplifiers. No foam swords, tho, so consider this myth

Nothing, but skipping classes just to play it on the crappy school computers is too nerdy in my oppinion. It would be the same if it were any other game.

How do you know they are skipping classes? I used to have a few hours between college classes last semester and I would play my PSP.
It's a small school, so I get that impression, but even if they werent, it still kinda buggs me to play games on school computers. I play my handhealds between classes, too, but actualy using the computer lab about a million times a day (they are always there!!) just gets on my pubes if you get what I'm saying.

30" waist, have run two sporting clubs in the past two years, only ever embarrass myself deliberately (and even then not in a gaming-related way). And I not only play at least 12 hours of games a week, I'm on a degree course to MAKE the damn things!

Unfortunately, though, I know a lot of people on my course who fit the stereotype perfectly, and they are usually the ones being the most outspoken about their love of gaming.

That's the problem - most people don't notice the normal, healthy gamers like myself... especially when compared to the 18 stone, unshaven guy who is wearing a Zelda t-shirt and smelling like they had a wash at the last eclipse...

So false. I'm a normal guy that gets medium grades(C's and B's), stays out of attention, not to short, not the strongest guy, but not a weak little thing.

Guess what, there are gamers who are socially active, physically active, and don't live at home. I'm looking at buying a house of my own to move into, once I move to where my job is going.

Yeah, I don't believe this stereotype anymore.

Well I get out doing all sorts of manly sports (emphasise on manly) and still have the time to spend most my life on the Xbox :p The stereotype is rarely true.

Well, I am an addicted pro gamer, and I'm not fat, I'm not what you'd call lazy (okay, I don't do stuff by motu propii, but I can still do them if asked to). I don't embarass myself, mostly because I don't feel embarassment.

AND MIND YOU, MY SWORDS ARE MADE OF PURE METAL!

Practically everyone's a gamer nowadays. At least in the younger generation. So yeah, that stereotype is outdated (if it ever was accurate at all).
