Something that happened last night has really been bothering me. My fiancee and I were waiting for final fantasy to be released.A group of guys that were standing near the door where we were all lined up were being very crude. I'm not a puritan but the stuff they were damn near yelling was disgusting. My fiancee was the only girl there but there was a man of about 60 who looked angry as hell as well. My question is this do gamers just not have manners anymore? I could not see this behavior being acceptable anywhere else exept maybe a strip club. I would never talk that way with a lady, or an elderly man present. I mean i was beaten if i so much as let out a tiny swear in front of a woman growing up. So am i being to critical or do i have a valid beef?

If you look around, it is not just gamers, unfortunately it seems most people don't have manners.
You just happened to be at a place where there was mostly gamers being rude.
Good Manners appears to be a dying tradition, unfortunately...

Gamers, manners? no. Actually I think thats quite harsh, I shall edit this.

People, manners? no. Gamers are just part of a society on the whole who are damned disrespectful to anyone they don't know personally.

People as a whole were much more polite to each other when everyone was allowed to carry small arms. You never knew if the person you were being rude to was packing heat, thus, politeness was self-enforced.

I didn't reall mean to single out gamers here i have just seen the worst cases of this at release events. The last 2 i have went to were similar, but not quite as bad. And no i don't get out much. Maybe im a lil jaded because release events are the one time im forced to be around people longer than short contact i get from buying food or books.

Then again, I'm the guy who says 'fuck off' to people on the street if they so much as ask me the time of day, so I'm hardly a paragon of etiquette.
Well, that's gotta trigger interesting situations, to say the very least!

Soooo, what happened exactly? Were they being crude to you or your fiancee, or were they just talking amongst themselves in a fairly loud manner using the occasional swear word? If the former: yeah, that's bad. If it was the latter: I'd say that's normal. Maybe they could have toned it down for you, but hey, you know how it is when you're with a group of friends.

Either way, gamers are just like regular people. Being gamers doesn't make it any more or less likely that they're assholes.

It was more like constant swearing, really degrading talk about women. One guy was talking about diffrent girls he had been withs genitals compared to another and some stuff i would get banned for posting. Not typical gross talk with friends more like penthouse forum.

Yeah, in that case I agree with you that it was totally inappropriate. I doubt if it has anything to do with the fact that they were gamers though.

I find that most people have lost all sense of manners recently, whilst me and my comrades still support manners as a virue many gamers are crude because their introversion leads to them not understanding social laws and thus makes them seem barbaric. This is why gamers are usually the focal point of complaints aboput modern manners (When other social underclasses [like bogans]aren't being mentioned)

There are faggots(using the annoying definition, not hte gay one) everywhere, and to be frank, gamers never were and probably never will be generally well behaved.

Final Fantasy is a Grade-A alpha male magnet. You should know this.
If FF attracts the Grade A alpha males, imagine what a Gears of War release attracts, there would be blood in the streets!

I experience getting yelled at very often in games, even if I'm good at it by people who are bad at it, the opposite when I'm bad at it, and people at my level when I'm doing O.K.

Gamers nowadays just wants to flame people, that's what I think..

As myself, I tend to be an optimist, if someone does something rather poorly, I encourage them to try again etc.

Not really. Only nerds get boners from burly men. Case in point; Gears of War, God of War, 300,

I know, seriously the words "pistols at dawn" arn't said nearly enough and meant anymore.

On topic I hate people who are extremely crude and loud while doing it. I make the mistake of being loud sometimes but most of our conversations get strange looks because of the bizarre content rather than crudity. And if I ever say something crude it is definately said quietly and usually in passing.
