Gamers assemble! (aka I need help)

I bought Torchlight a couple days ago because it was in a steam sale for £3.75, I was expecting a colourful little game to fill the hours until the new diablo. But alas I didn't get that. Not because the game is bad... but it's the fact that Torchlight doesn't work. "Torchlight.exe has encountered a problem" explodes onto my screen every time I try to load it. I've reinstalled it, switched off any security I have, installed patches (v. 1.15), even threatened it. But to no avail. Anyone got any solutions? Or failing that tell me if it's worth trying to fix?

I guess the techies will come and ask for your dxdiag and video card info and all that fun stuff, so it'd help them if you started gathering it to post on the forums.

Show it you're serious. Take another CD you don't want and break it in half in front of the Torchlight CD.
OT: I'd try contacting tech support. If nothing else you might be able to get a new CD that works.

He pulled it off steam, so he doesn't have any CD's to teach a lesson too.

First gather all the diagnostic information of your computer and then call the Tech Support offices.

he should pull up a file and fragment it in front of torchlight.
OT: if you contact valve through the steam support forums they are usually quick to respond and will probably fix your problem. They have fixed all the ones I had.
