Here is the link: http://au.ign.com/articles/2013/06/12/gamers-without-internet-can-stick-with-xbox-360-says-microsoft

All i can really say is, really Microsoft? REALLY???
For those that don't feel like reading the article, it's exactly what the title says, and they further went on to imply that people without an internet connection are essentially in such a strange position as to be in a nuclear sub.

They basically dismiss very valid arguments (such as the internet requirement affecting those with dodgy internet rather than missing internet) and try to trivialize the whole thing.

What are your thoughts? I feel like Microsoft has literally lost their minds, that or they've grown so accustomed to making big money they've lost all touch with reality.

I have to agree. Sony officials must be in hysterics.

Microsoft has completely lost the plot, its as if they're actually trying to dissuade people from buying their product...

Are they, like, fueling a world saving device off of negative PR or something? They can't really believe that was a good idea, can they? There's gotta be something we're missing, because a multibillion dollar company cannot be this stupid.

I wonder if Microsoft believe that enough negative PR will cause some sort of PR singularity that collapses in on itself, until there's no negative PR left? That's the only explanation I have.

Well that or Microsoft are so unbelievably out of touch with consumers that they literally can't comprehend why this is a problem.

These people must sit around sniffing their own farts all day. It's the only way they could possibly be so out of touch with reality!!

My reply to Microsoft would be "How's about you go fuck yourself?"

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! That's AMAZING.

Honestly, my jaw is still on the floor reading those comments. I love how it totally ignores things such as slow internet connection when everyone gets home from work/school, and how connections drop out, equipment gets faulty, or providers have issues etc. They may only be small issues, but given the option of having those issues or not having them which are you gonna choose?

The big thing they've not realized is that they've actually just said....

"GAMERS WITHOUT INTERNET CAN GO TO SONY, NINTENDO OR THE PC"

......Just unreal.

It's unfathomable isn't it? But they are and it's clearly now not just a case of good workers making the odd bad decision, but that the company is now populated and run by people not competent, in touch, or in possession of enough common sense to fulfill their job roles.
Exactly! I lived in Malaysia and the Philippines for a total of 15 years of my life, and i can tell you, having such a requirement in those locations would have been hell. Even now (i occasionally visit) the internet is better but is still unstable and liable to being knocked out for days at a time!

My theory is that Microsoft just doesn't care about the hardcore audience this time around. I'm guessing that they want to draw in a new crowd and are assuming that the hardcores will suck it up and come crawling back with their tail between their legs just to play the exclusives. That's why all this shit PR is being tossed around, they're trying to "shake off" the "gamer" image to draw in a broader audience.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a totally retarded approach, but that's the only way I can explain it...

EA have been keeping it running for two years, now they've handed it off to Microsoft.

It's essentially the same thing they already said when they announced the xbone required an internet connection: This console will not cater to people without internet (or unable to connect their console, etc.)

Saying they could stick with 360 was just company loyal way of saying get something else then.

I'm not arguing that it isn't stupid but I honestly don't understand why this is surprising let alone news. I guess there was some speculation whether they would have an option for "special circumstances" but surely it still doesn't warrant the shocked responses...

I think the thing is that they really can't see how big a percentage of their sales are made up from people in such similar situations.

I don't think it's anything as "noble" or well thought out to be honest. I think it really is just a case that they have felt so overconfident in their power that they have designed the Xbone with the top 5 priorities being "fleece as much money as possible from as many people as possible", and that the ego's at the company are so large, and the down-to-earth common sense so little, that they're just determined to bludgeon their way through this disaster.

It's frickin poetic.

The fact that they don't realize the size of that percentage is HILARIOUS considering in the article they claimed to have done market research on all this and found no issues XD

What a moron, why bother making a statement like that at all, you're just going to piss people off.

Microsoft must have hired someone who hates them and made them head of PR for some reason.

Thank you for the advice Microsoft, that is exactly what I will do. This will also allow me to never give you my money again. Two thumbs up for your non-existent PR department.

Unless MS is like...planning to buy sony right after everyone buys ps4, they've completely lost the plot. It's not even funny, it's just ridiculous by this point.

What the actual fuck? I mean...geeze loueeze, don't those honchos at Microsoft check who they hire to run the PR for them? Alternatively, has Sony infliltrated the PR department at MS and turned all the speakers into moles or something? Seriously, that's no way to run your public relations.

Captcha: What do you mean "lemon" isn't a country! It's right next to London, the tiny village on Mars that lies right on the outskirts of martian capital city, Wibble!

*Black Adder Reference detected*

But yeah, i remember people joking about Sony infiltrating during the initial reveal in which Microsoft started the fall, and now I'm actually genuinely thinking that it would explain so so much o_O

That's what I was planning on doing anyways... So it's nice to have MS's blessing.

I kind of laughed at the "I don't know what it means to be on a nuclear submarine" line.
Nuclear submarines--it's only a state of mind.

Oh geez really? People can keep playing the old console they paid money for long ago? Oh wow thank you Microsoft.

I think Microsoft is banking too much on the loyalty of a few hardcore fans, *Cough Halo cough* assuming that everyone who's pay enough attention for these things to matter will always stick to their Sony or Microsoft loyalty where as the rest won't even notice until they've brought it anyway.
