I don't believe I was, I didn't rant about how much I hated them I merely wanted opinions about them and to see if any hardcore gamers shared my apathy, I'm not a massive gamer so they don't seem appealing.

I love gamerscore. It logs what i have done in a game so i can delete the saves. Plus, with something impressive like Mile High Club it is respect of your skills and permanent proof of it.
I think it could be better implemented if you got some gamerpoints for reaching some milestones.

I use it to boost my ego. Although this never works as I have a friend who's gamerscore is double mine.
what I don't like is achievements for doing next to nothing, I think there's a TMNT game that gives you points for entering the Konami Code at the start screen. The game doesn't even have anything to do with Konami

Gamerscore or trophys does not dictate your skill as a gamer it just shows you can accomplish set goals either because you have alot of time (90% of the time) or you are pretty good at being able to progress through a certain game (10% of the time).
When it comes down to it you could have less than 1k gamerscore and kick someones ass in an online match time and time again no matter how much gamerscore he/she has

I don't really care about my overall gamerscore. What I do care about is how many points out of a thousand per game I've earned, if I've earned all 1000, I know I got my money's worth out of that purchase.

Exactly. I mean, some people like me enjoy them because they give you small bragging rights and make things a bit more competative between me and my friends. If you don't like them just ignore the bloody system. It isn't that hard. If you aren't paying attention to them you probably won't be unlocking them that often.dekkarax said:

Back in the day, we had arcades. Not to be confused with two arcade machines sitting in the bar, actual arcades were entire buildings devoted to arcade machines. And for many of them, "multiplayer" was about getting a higher score. There was no "Frogger" deathmatch, but I could get triple your score and walk away knowing I'd won.
Gamerscore is a callback to those days. A way of boosting your "points" to know you've experienced/mastered more of the game. Now me, I sometimes will go out of my way to get some points if the thing I have to do for it sounds fun (i.e. Get six stars and hold them for five minutes in GTA4). If it sounds stupid (i.e. Little Rocket Man) then I don't bother, but that's just me.
I can see the point of Gamerscore either way, and my play experience isn't really hurt by having them in there.
Also, just as a quick note, I've heard lots and lots of people go on about how XBoxer's compare their completely useless scores in a virtual penis measuring contest. I mean, I hear this complaint ALL THE TIME. Know what I've never, ever heard? The actual contest taking place. Never once have I been in a game and heard someone tell me that their score made them better than me, ever. I'm sure it happens, but to me, the bigger issue seems to be all the bitching about it.

Achievements give you more out of a game....something to go for after a game. I don't understand why people complain so much about them.
It's quite nice I think, if you look up the achievements you often encounter bits of the game which you wouldn't otherwise.
So I like to collect them, but at the end of the day the number is for me not anyone else really. I don't really care if your score if higher or lower than mine. Its just nice to know that I accomplished that bit right there
