Sunny Side of the Zombiepocalypse

Nathan Bonaccorso, gamer, reports:

SO, apparently video games are bad for us hey? Where are these statistics coming from? There have been two attacks that have been blamed on video games in my entire memory, which, sure, are no good, but considering there are tens of millions of people who have played video games in their lives, that?s a pretty good rate of sanity.

Recently, an article was published in my local newspaper which was scathing in how parents let their kids play video games as that are too ?violent?, ?teaches the wrong morals? and are ?making our kids antisocial?. Although the violence part is true is some games, the rest is a load of rubbish as games today teach kids about the horrors of war, can teach kids arithmetic, how to cook, do geography and may help our kids socialise more easily.

The author?s main argument that keeping kids indoors increases their anti-sociality and makes them lazy, well, to be fair, it is feasible that it can make kids slack but good parenting will see to that, and also the games aren?t designed so this will happen, games are just a means of enjoyment. As for anti-sociality games aren?t designed so that people will spend all day and night playing them, and besides, it gives friends common ground to talk about and can even bring people closer together while in their own homes.

Games are an effective means to convey messages, and not all games are trying to get us to kill others, as some would like us to believe. These people have made us forget games like brain training, Nintendogs, and the entirety of the Wii console and their games. These are a major part of the game industry, as Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are recently bringing out more physically interactive games such as Eye-pet, more wii games, and Project Natal (Kinect).
ENN?s Jeremy Petter reports:
?The (games) industry is bending over backwards, in some cases literally, to actualise paradigms and retrofit existent buzzwords.? What he is saying (in plain English) is that the gaming industry is working extremely hard to keep up with current times, interests and concerns.

Brian Frechete-assistant manager of community outreach for Blizzard entertainment:
?The point here was never to hurt or diminish anyone?s freedom, it has always been about making people responsible for their actions and there can be two sides to that coin?there can be a lot of shame in posting something nasty to a gaming forum and having someone know you did it?.
?Market demand should never be placed over scientific study? says an unnamed source

Petter then went on to say ?What is certain is when you pit discrimination and bigotry against hate crimes, everyone loses?. So don?t let it get to this fellow gamers. Do not let pedantic parents and authority figures such as Michael Atkinson destroy our community.

Games can be good for us, by helping us socialise even while at home, can increase activity with consoles such as the Wii, and can teach kids to do the right thing, such as brain training. So where is the evidence that games are bad for us? In the heads of people who don?t understand or care that?s where.

Also if you didn?t get the title reference, the ?Zombiepocalypse? refers to the very popular game for all ages, Plants VS Zombies.

Nathan Bonaccorso, a concerned gamer.

P.S This is a feature article I had to write for English so no hating please
P.S.S Comments, suggestions and feedback are greatly appreciated

Erm.. Its not bad, but what purpose does the Blizzard quote or the second Jeremy petter quote serve? It doesn't appear to have anything to do with your argument about games being good for people. It does begin quite well but it appears to go off on a tangent somwhere in the middle.

here's the secret. It's the people who do these things, and thier gardians fault. not games, not movies, thiers. accept it, this topic is so over discussed. everyone knows that it has nothing to do with the games, the statistics aren't linked in any meaningful way, and u can find a study to say anything. let's move on already. fuck.

This times 1 googol, I wish people would just accept that games are no more damaging/good for you than TV or reading a book.

If your spastic little shit drowns a kitten its because you failed as a parent, not because he played an M rated game, which he probably shouldn't have been doing anyway.
