Games as procrastination

Can you play a game to procrastinate? I feel that if I have something seriously important that I need to take care of like cramming for a test the next day or half-assing an assignment for the next day, I can't play games because I can't enjoy them. I'll sit down and there will always be that nibbling guilt that I should be doing my work instead of plugging away even more countless hours into Mass Effect or whatever.

Anyway...what say you, Escapist people?

But of course!

I've played games when I should have been doing all kinds of other things.

I find myself in the same position.
In the end it depends on the importance of the test; right now, for example, I have an exam phase which will potentially decide my entire future, so I actually haven't played anything in five weeks.

-EDIT- Incidentally, your avatar is the best use of Noam Chomsky I've ever seen.

Oh, I'll do it anyway. I'll masochistically play games right up until the very last moment until I absolutely have to get something done, despite the fact I probably won't enjoy it due to the whole stress thing hanging over my head.

As long as it helps me forget I'm supposed to be having "responsibilities" and "doing things"...
Wait, this is probably a bad thing, right?

I can't do anything let alone play games if I have something more pressing that needs to be taken care of. Whatever other important task I have that needs to be nags at the back of my mind until I get up and take care of it.

I find myself in a quite peculiar position in which I procrastinate playing games to procrastinate studying.

I have New Vegas unfinished and it bothers me, but I can't seem to just put it the 'Box and finish it.

I'm procrastinating all the time. This site and recently Blitzkrieg 2 have been nice and distracting...

I might have to ask for another suspension sooner than I thought...

If I have something that needs doing, gaming can wait. Procrastination is not the point at issue...it does not count as "putting something off" if you allot sufficient time for it (i.e. doing my homework the day of class isn't procrastination, it's finding a use for the otherwise idle hour or two before I leave the house.)

I procrastinated all the time with games. I don't recommend it. I always ended up doing last minute projects and never did study for tests, but the test portion of that was really just how I did things. I could never really study for tests. If I didn't get the material a decent amount of time before a test I likely wouldn't be able to fix that beforehand.

I procrastinated all the time with Minesweeper, Solitaire, and Hearts while writing papers in college. I always put my school work off until the last possible moment and I got straight As in high school and college. Also, studying is for suckers, all you have to do is look over your notes for about 5-10 minutes before a test. The key is taking good notes and paying attention in class because you're already in class, so why not pay attention? I also never read a chapter of any of my college books ever.

I can't play games to procrastinate. When I procrastinate, it's with something that I can do for a very small amount of time so there is at least the hope I'll get my stuff done. I play games to do something that takes up a bunch of time. It doesn't mix.

Actually I dont really procrastinate with games, I think because I cant play unless Im relaxed and focused I procrastinate with cleaning or pacing around stressfully or eating

I actually procrastinate playing games because I dont want to finish them too quickly, somtimes I draw them out for a long time,

Its almost as I if enjoy the Idea of the game being there, ready to play than playing the game itself

I procrastinate with Minecraft.

Not that I've had anything much to procrastinate from recently. I need a job.

Well, I'm doing that right now. I should study. Or work.

Not doing either. Looking for a new game while playing one, reading TvTropes and let's plays and lingering on the forums. I should really stop doing that.

I have an important test today, but I was gaming pretty hard yesterday. I think that answers your question >.>
