People not knowing what they are talking about when it comes to affects of gaming! GASP! (sarcasm)

Some people really need to shut up because they have no idea about gaming and just use it as an easy target, the bigots.

To be honest, just because one of the advocates of this debate turned out to be fraudulent that doesn't mean the argument goes away. I highly doubt it but there is a chance that video games--and I say this soooooooooo tentatively because this is matter of principle, rather than instinct, to me--may cause such tendencies.
However I bet I can find an increase of instances of rape at approximately the same time the Slinky was made, which, using the observational methods of these researchers, makes it the greatest tool of sexual perversion once I publish my thesis on it.

When someone refuses repeatedly to provide sources, especially when the only one they do provide is refuted, it's safe to call Bulls***.

I think the funniest thing was, "Obviously I know what I'm talking about or I wouldn't be called upon to testify in front of Congress." Because, yeah, Congress is a totally unbiased organization and they're all up to speed on the requirements for Due Dilligence and the need for peer-reviewed sources.

I'm surprised that she never even mentioned Rapelay... You'd think that with all the controversy it sparked... ah... nevermind.

It's antics like hers that really bring my blood to a boil. Like damn near all of you, I've developed a great deal of passion for games. It infuriates me when some uneducated snot like her trots around quoting research results and invalid logic against a medium I'm sure she hasn't actually partaken in since Super Mario World.
Dammit, now I'm angry... thanks...

The very same thing happened with R rated movies, certain books, and heavy metal. You've got these crusading single mothers and elderly men who are determined to get it banned without any thought about what it actually is. "Think of the children!" They cry.

In time, this'll fade over. And given what the subject of her books are about, she's got no idea what she's talking about anyway.

Can anyone actually think of any mainstream games that have sex or rape in them? Leisure Suit Larry was all about sex, but not rape and certainly didn't show anything. GTA had the famous hot coffee scene, but that wasn't actually in game, all you got when you played was a photo of the outside of a house and voice over or a car bouncing when you hired a hooker.
In fact even nudity is rare. I can think of a couple of games with strip club scenes, but not much more than that.

Well, did you know the events of Metal Gear Solid actually happened? Yes, in 1995 the American government actually developed Metal Gear Rex but the base was seized by a renegade special ops group and they were forced to send in a retired government agent to take back the base within twenty four hours but also had to deal with a crazy cyborg ninja when on the base. Oh, and Hideo Kojima was actually Otacon.

Where is my evidence to support this? I don't have time to show it, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

every media has to go through it. books, radio, tv..... all of it was seen as things that could damage our society, but after some time people have embraced them. just ignore this bullsh*t, people will get bored/tired of listening to this every nanosecond of our existence. besides, people who do listen to those ramblings are old. or stupid. world will run out of both after a while.

Christ, I don't even play video games and this makes me really, really angry. I might not play them (mostly because I have about 0 hand-eye coordination) but I do appreciate that they are an art form, I'm fascinated by them and seeing them put down like this makes my blood boil. Just... ugh.

I've played gory games and countless shooters. Dawn of War, Combat Arms, Halo, Call of Duty and Battlefield:Bad Company are a few.

My Dad and brother play sports/racing games on a regular basis. Fifa 10/11 and misc. racing games.

Guess who rage quits and gets pissed off while playing games?

Last time I checked, rape wasn't for fun, it was for male dominance.

Correct me if you see a need to.

?Obviously I know what I?m talking about or I wouldn?t be called upon to testify in front of Congress,? she said.
You actually have to know about a subject before you talk to congress about it? Nobody else in congress seems to know WTF to do so I assumed you could just walk in there drunk and with an agenda and still be taken just as seriously as someone in a suit handing out bribes to everyone in congress.

It hasn't happened to me, but I know a couple of girls that it *has* happened to. For her to make light of it for the sake of condemning something she'll never understand is genuinely abhorrent behavior. She is less than human; she is an animal..
Seriously. There is nothing to 'justify' why someone raped someone else. It is entirely in the hands of the criminal. Yes environment effects us blah blah blah but to insinuate that violent video games are the reason someone got raped is insulting.

The blame is on the person who decided that violating another human being was an okay thing to do. Not the games they play, the music they listen to or the movies they watch.

i'd like to point out that the people still watching fox news as a news-source are generally the people that won't go looking online to disprove their newsshow.
so really, the website only tells something to people who already knew this.
I realize this. I was posting the article more for its entertainment value to people like us. I know it probably won't change the opinions of people like her, but it's still a hilarious read.

For some reason, this is the line that makes me angry the most. In addition to being egregiously dishonest, it's so intentionally manipulative that it makes my blood boil. Testifying before Congress does not mean she's a competent authority or that her declarations are sound. To attempt a facade of legitimacy based on that is really sleazy.

I don't know if that's the same though, I don't know how westernized Japan's culture is or the basis for which their country was founded on.

Its basically the same shit. a batshit, crazy person blames anime, manga and video games for the rise in rape. Eventhough he wrote graphic rape novels. He then creates a bill that states anything in anime, manga and video games that shows any kind of crime is deemed unlawful. they're restrictions already on the media already yet he bitching that its not good for children or it causes kids to mimic what they read; when he has no facts at all to back the claims up. Sounds familiar, huh.

The only thing different about it the law got passed because he's old. That happened because Japanese society is based around seniority that the older people are "wiser" just because they are old eventhough they're just like a lot of older people in the US and all over the world. They basically want to stay in control; yet they're extremely flawed logic based around ignorance, blind hatred, blatant bigotry and or hypocrisy is why they hold no creditability with younger people yet keep getting elected because people in their social group agree with them and or have some kind under the table deals.

I might have derailed the topic a bit with my rant :p

I find it harder to blame Japan for that though. Eastern Culture is different from Western Culture I know that much. I know this lady is doing this bullshit just for publicity. Maybe that older japenese fellow actually believes it. *shrug*

I just get so disillusioned that we built our nation with all these values, and push comes to shove, we lose those values.
