You know what the protagonist says right before he/she/it dies in your favorite game?
Would you change it? What would they say?
I wanted to tell Clementine I loved her. Still, I think "Keep that hair short" was nice and poetic. God, the tears.

Well, technically not death, but the last comment made in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, "Call me Kakolukia," was an excellent final comment. It's humorous, fits his character, keeps his name a mystery, and also foreshadows a reopening of his relationship with Farah.

EDIT: I guess for actual death, his comment, "When those I loved are dead and I to blame...I choose death." He still doesn't technically die again, though it is where he chooses death over eternal life. Still, love that comment.

At the end of Throne of Bhaal, I'd love to have said...

"Thanks, everyone, couldn't have done it without you. I bet all of you are going to live interesting lives and be forever written in history. Except you, Edwin, I think you're more likely to piss of Elminster or something, and then who knows what can happen."

...a short affair that ended Edwin's existance in the Realms. Edwina, however, tends a bar in a Waterdeep tavern. She's a bitter, bitter woman.

Not Game final words, but one of my favorite final words were spoken by Liu from Front Mission 3. Basically, in one of two alternative campaigns, that guy will be your ally and friend, but in another he will keep hunting you down for almost the whole game. His target is main hero's genetically engineered sister. So, at his final moments, when Liu basically lost everything, his allies, his master, he by the last thread of his life tries to reach and kill your sister. Once he realizes that he failed he takes his sunglasses off and says "fools, all of you" and dies. Now, maybe that scene is not so strong on its own, but knowing just what good of a person he is, by playing alternative campaign, makes it so much emotionally stronger.

That Sands of Time quote is great. I also like the ending of Two Thrones, where the Prince starts telling his tale exactly as how Sands of Time begins ("Most people think time is like a river..."). It closes the trilogy in a time loop, since as that game ends, the story of the first game begins. Basically it goes on and on. It's rather poetic.

As for actual death...

I like the whole home stretch at the hotel, beginning with that track that starts playing right after the video. Doors start teleporting you, the hotel turns to crap, the music channels that kind of sinking, despairing feeling James is going though. The Pyramid Heads show up, and I like James's "Leave us both the hell alone!", he's so fed up and yet so impotent at that point. And then "I know what I must do", which is a nice change of mentality for the guy, for once. The fight felt very climactic. And then the final confrontation with Maria ("You're not Mary!"). And then Mary's letter, of course ("You made me happy"). No matter how many times I play this game, I get pretty emotional in here. It's all fits so tightly. Anyway, maybe James dies, maybe he doesn't. Either way death is in the air.

"Sorry I was such a dick"

Should have been the final words from the Protagonist from Persona 3

I don't think the main character dies in any of my favourite games because I naturally gravitate towards the happier ones I think. Well I could count the bad endings of BlazBlue CS:EX because some of them are downright chilling. In Carl's one Hazama kicks the shit out of him, kills his sister in front of him then chucks him into the Cauldron. I mean Carl could have said something badass before he died surely.

I'm fuckin' surprised Carl was one of my favourite characters story-wise considering how much I loathe child characters. It helps that he grew up hella fast when his father went on a murderous rampage in the pursuit of science of course.

One of my favourite "death" quotes is one when Shadow Labrys goes down for real in a match of Persona 4 Arena.

"HOW DID I LOSE TO THEM?!"

I cannot play her anymore to save my life, it is impossible to play both Labrys and Shabrys at the same time. Don't stop me from trying though because it's weirdly enjoyable when you win vs one of the Investigation Team. Especially Yu. Main character goes down to the final boss, GG SON!

If Shabrys won properly, as in wiped the entire cast of the game wouldn't that mean like... 10ish bodies on random aerials throughout the town? Not that she would ever win because she's probably the least threatening Shadow of the lot. Some of it is the way she's presented, some of it is the fact that it's a fighting game so she can die in like 25 seconds some of it is that she gets successfully 1v1'd by everyone. Try that in Persona 4 proper (without a new game + one hit everything swag build) and you would get curbstomped.
