Games for a Tournament

For my upcoming birthday I was planning on having a small game tournament. I wanted to have a variety of games for my friends to compete in. Now, there are the more traditional games, like Street Fighter or Super Smash Bros, but I wanted to do more than that. I have a huge number of games and consoles to choose from, so basically any suggestion from Pitfall to CoD4 would work.

How small is 'small'? I'd throw in DotA or a DotA-clone (LoL, HoN) too. A more traditional RTS game might not go amiss (Starcraft 2?). If you're feeling epic, Total War would work.
