Ok, I have a good number of games and my girlfriend is trying to enjoy some of the games I do. The list of games is Beautiful Katamari, Call of Duty 4 and WaW, Oblivion, Fable II, Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Left 4 Dead, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, Rock Band 2, Saints Row 2, Test Drive Unlimited, Forza 2, and Ultimate Alliance. On the Arcade I have Doom, Duke Nukem, Puzzle Quest, and some other random games.

She already plays Guitar Hero and Rock Band a lot, but she wants to break that mold and go for something a little more...not casual. She's not really in to shooters but enjoyed the random absurdity of Saints Row 2, but hated playing GTAIV.

So, the above games and if you can recommend me any other games she should try out.

If she likes wacky humour then you might consider the Warcraft RTS series (Only if shes willing to try RTS) the multiple clicking sounds wasted more time in that game for me then anything else.

(best is the Pandaren Brewmaster every line=pure gold, Now you're endagered!)

L4D.
Play it on easier settings.
Nothin' like co-op bonding time!

That, and she'd prolly feel more comfortable with the characters.

Perhaps something that would allow her to play a female character, Wow or Oblivion (even though everyone knows all the chicks are ugly in oblivion for some reason) or fallout or any game that allows for customization. I think part of the reason there aren't as many female gamers is because most games feature primarily male PC's.

And because, apparently, a female protagonist is a, "Feature."

Fable 2 would also be great for a burgeoning gamer. Just resist the urge to tell her what to do, even if she fails epically. Its really hard to not do that sometimes.

Just do yourself a favour and never come online to protest your dislike of the games that she enjoys. >_>
I'm still laughing after reading that thread.

Oh, I don't pick on her for liking games that aren't good, that's her thing. I'm just trying to get ideas on how to bring into a more...non-casual gaming environ.

Good Idea on the DS, I'll have to do some looking. Also, I failed to mention before, I only have the 360 at this point, and she isn't really into MMOs.

I know a lot of girls who really seem to like oblivion. since I'm guessing you just have a 360 I'd recommend viva piñata it's actually surprisingly addictive...if very childish. and beautiful katamari. okay those last two are really casual but still. L4D would be good for the co-op fun, if she just wants humour then overlord would be good.

Do you have backwards compatability? If so, I highly suggest Beyond Good and Evil.

I do have backwards compatability, and I thought BG&E was an amazing game, I'll have find a copy of it and give it a try.

Guess my brother lucked out. His wife loves everything that's quote unquote "good". She plays Fallout 3 every chance she gets right now, but she's dug every game we've played. She's actually not bad at them either. But I guess it's a bad thing that she plays the same games, for him, since she's hogging the console. LOL

Me, I always end up with the ones who roll their eyes at gaming. Maybe stop meeting them at bars and start patrolling the local GameStop? LOL

But back at the topic....have you tried some hack and slash games? Maybe she just doesn't like all the button inventory layouts or something. Try a straight forward hack and slash, maybe.

Psychonauts!

Absolutely brilliant and hilarious adventure game. Available off Steam for a good price.

Me and the Yeti Queen played Eternal Sonata together. While the combat was a little too simplistic for my tastes (although countering could be quite taxing at times) she loved it. Providing you let her play the main character you'll have a fun time just going through the cute, if shallow, story and looking at the gorgeous graphics.

Those are all some really good ideas.

I did pick up Puzzle Quest and she seemed to enjoy that, so I guess I'll have to go based off that too.

no nintendogs?
no klonoa?
no patapon?
not even FF chocobos for that extra smart girlfriend with a fetish for "cute stuff"?

this thread needs work.
