i like games alot and i also like movies and sometimes i am playing a game and i think it would make a kick ass movie if done well. so im wondering are there any games youd like to see become movies or the other way round if youd prefer?
if i had to choose a game to become a movie it would be cod black ops.
p.s
im not saying its going to be good if it was a movie but i mean that if it was done well and was exactly like you imagined it wat game would you like to see become a movie

I think the two mediums don't translate well to each other, and people should stop turning one into the other in either direction. The result is usually pretty bad.

...so you want a generic american war movie?

games to movies has NEVER worked in the past, and i highly doubt it ever will; they are far too different to translate over well.

You really need to widen your gaming horizons if that's all you think they could be.

There have been a few for me, yeah. Ironically enough it's usually a game that treats itself like a movie already.

The funny thing is that most video game to movie adaptations fail because they ignore the source material or just plain copy a better movie, or they choose a game that was a rip-off of a movie to begin with. Resident Evil = Dawn of the Dead, Tomb Raider = Indiana Jones, BloodRayne = Blade, DOOM = Even Horizon, etc. Its like making a copy of a copy of a copy, of course its going to suck.

Its not impossible to make a good movie based on a game, its just the game developer and movie producers and director need to have mutual artistic respect. Until we get avid gamers that are also directors, I doubt we'll get an acceptable adaptation.

Hmmm. I really dont know to tell you the truth. I mean, you only have to look at the catalogue of game movies and see how (un)successful they were. I always thought that one scene came the closest to being considered a "Game on Film" experience and that was Prince of Persia. Y'know, where the Prince as gotten in and explains how the gate works to his troops. I was instantly taken back into the games and I was excited. That feeling was gone soon after, even with the introduction of the space/time altering mcguffin.

To go back on track however, I would've said Uncharted since they were meant to be as cinematic as possible, what with the epic set peices, enjoyable characters and a fairly standard plot and twist...but I guess I was beaten by Marky Mar....uhhh I mean Mark Wahlberg. Yeah.

OP wants a movie based on Call of Duty: Black Ops. That would end up being exactly that - a generic American war movie.

Y'know, I was just thinking. The only game movies that ever seem to be any good are not even based on video games. In fact, they have little to do with the medium. Just look at Death Race. Its a prison/combat sport B-Movie but the racing scenes are pretty damn cool and seem to operate on video game rules. You get a tricked out car, a whole bunch of offensive and defensive weapons and the only way to activate said weapons is to run through the equivelant of power ups. Hell it even has hazards (Death Heads) and a mini-boss in the form of the "Truck from Hell", The Dreadnought.

The best video game -> movie = Silent Hill. And it was a mediocre horror movie (still enjoyed it).

A game -> movie... I'd say the Uncharted series.

Uncharted 2 would make a pretty awesome movie, if done right.

An Uncharted movie is actually in the works right now, but sadly, it's not being made right. The only person who should ever be allowed to play Nathan Drake is Nathan Fillion, however for the movie they went with Mark Wahlberg. I am not happy with this development.
What about NOT having Jeff Bridges play Sully? That was he role he was BORN to play!! It would be lke The Dude in his retirement years.

Here is why games to movies never worked all too well from one medium to another, the director has their own interpretation of it. Just like how some movies can fuck up books, games will be screwed over because the only people who will like the film are those who saw the game in a similar way, of which there will not be many if any at all. The only way something will be all around successful is if directors decide that their own view isn't enough and are willing to accomodate, which sort of happened with prince of persia.

Mirror's Edge would probably make a good movie. Lots of parkour escape scenes, the occasional melee combat, and a few epic jumps to tie it all together. Its a pretty simple concept to so it shouldn't be to easy to screw it up, unless your trying to of course.

I think there was an actual Doom movie, the Rock was in it, wasn't too bad in my opinion, but definitely nothing outstanding.

Oh hell yeah! Just imagine Morrowind as a movie! Not just 1 though, like 5 movies or something.. You'd need at least 10 hours.. Heck.. Make it 25.. If they made it good, it would be AWESOME!

Or Counter-Strike the movie. Just an average "gun 'em all down" movie where both "teams" loose nearly all their men and it comes down to an epic last ditch fight between one CT and three T while the bomb is ticking! I'd hit that.

And what about Zelda? That could be good..

Or Need for Speed the movie.. Oh wait.. They sort of did that.. Yeah.. That bag of muscles with the freaky voice did better as Riddick.. But still the movies didn't suck..

And come on, was the Final Fantasy movie that bad? I mean, sure, I enjoy watching (not playing) the game (FFVII) more then I enjoyed the move, but still.. it was ok!

But.. A few ones that probably wouldn't work that well: Starcraft the movie.. World of Warcraft the movie.. I mean.. I like Starcraft, and a lot of other people like WoW, so they're great games along side with Morrowind, CS, Zelda or Need for Speed.. But I just don't think they would make a good movie.. They could, but the games are too popular.

You need old games that were awesome and still are. Like Frogger..

Oh yeah.. A four hour long epic saga of the industrious frog that tries to cross the road! Now THAT'S a movie!!!

And we ALL know why the chicken crossed the road.. It's because the frog did it.. Eventually..

DOOM = Even Horizon
Event Horizon was made after the first Doom game.. And I really don't think the Doom movie (or the games) remind me of Event Horizon at ALL...

I mean.. Doom is about aliens on Mars.. Event Horizon is about a "teleporting" spaceship that accidentally made a detour to Hell and got screwed over..

How is this even similar? The idea behind the "teleporting" systems in the two different scenarios are different too..

There are nothing that suggests that the aliens are at all affiliated with Satan in Doom.. They're just an enemy species.. Like sheep.. Or Lemmings.. We fight those guys all the time and we still don't find them "evil".. We just have different opinions..

(And sorry for the double post, but my 20 bucks has to pay for themselves somehow...)

Are you sure about this? From what I'd heard, everything had gone tits up and they were back to the start.

If you're right though, that is indeed a sad day for everyone. The internet has been collectively screaming for Fillion to play Drake since before a movie was even announced, plus the fact he wants to do it. If they choose Wahlberg over him I can see an attempted mass boycott...
Again, I'm seeing absolutely no love for Sully or Eddie Raja.
This upsets me greatly...:(

I'd like to have a proper Super Mario movie, just so that I could put the current one out of my head. It'd certainly help me to stop crying in the night!

Exactly.

DOOM the movie has more in common with Event Horizon than DOOM the game. The set pieces, the cinematography, the costumes, etc. In fact Event Horizon is more similar to DOOM the game than the DOOM movie was. You can't just add aliens that look like DOOM demons and a brief 1st person scene and call it a day. At least Event Horizon got the Hell involvement right.

I know that DOOM released before before Event Horizon, but that didn't stop the makers of the DOOM movie from borrowing more from Event Horizon than they did from DOOM.

[sub]...and yes, I have to type DOOM in all caps. It just feels right.[/sub]

It's not a bad concept, but it is always a terrible execution. Still, I'm always hoping for a movie that will prove me wrong.
