So, as we all know killing small children in video games hasn't been something the gaming industry has really done lately. It's just a touche subject for gaming devs. So my question is how does everyone feel about baby killing in games? Well not babies but little kids also if not little kids how about teenagers?

Games like Skyrim and such, have vast open cities and let's be honest. Who doesn't raze at least one town? haha. But! Problem! all the kids survived and you can't swing at them.
but what happens if a dragon decided to raid a village will it still not be okay?
In fable 2 your a boy and get shot out a window and as the words of Yahtzee "WHY CAN'T I SPREAD THE LOVE?!"

Why is it okay that if someone shoots you as a kid but not the way around?

I think this breaks gameplay a little but i think there should be a way to work around this.
As in all the kids run away and once they get out of your sight they disappear and they pop up in another world as orphans and such.

thoughts?

If your playing a game thinking "wow, wish their was more kiddy murder" then you have alot more to worry about than the game. Although, if they are the Fallout kids that are really shitty towards you and you cant do anything about it....then thats wrong.Them kids deserved atleast a slap.

This ^. As long as its not a big deal its good. Basically treat them like anyone else in the game. The moment a publisher tries to market it is the day Fox News wins...

I would like to see that implemented, seriously, after the first couple of times and the novelty wears off, how often are you really going to walk upto a child and kill it? In Fable 2, my kids were little shits, and I wanted to kill them, for being ass holes, but I wasn't able to, so I killed the wife, and they would be taken into care, ha ha. But in Fallout 3, I killed everyone in Megaton once, for the sake of it, but that kid was still wondering the empty street. If people don't want it, there should be a filter, to not do it, and also people should remember that it's not real!

Lol, I'm not sitting here thinking "Wow, wish their was more kiddy murder". So don't worry i'm still not that crazy. Yet.

But, certain games i don't see a problem with it. In Fable, Elder Scrolls, etc.
Although games like GTA, Saints row. I can see a problem and i don't think they need this in their games.

I hate it.

Especially in the case of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, since the previous titles that wasn't under the oppressive hand of Bethesda you could actually shoot children in the crotch if you felt like it.

Even when I played fallout 1 and 2 I never actually did that (I had no real reason to), but it felt liberating to know that I had the option to. It made the in-game world seem like it really was a post-apocalyptic one where no true law and order really existed. Whereas in Fallout 3 and New Vegas im pretty much ripped from my immersive experience each time a hand grenade accidentally land next to one of the child characters and the little brat walks away completely unscathed, just because the real world Bethesda doesn't think that the little children in the game should die.

If I had it my way, these games that claims to let "you the player" make the decisions should have both child killing AND full frontal nudity and sex as a standard. After all, it's supposed to be MY decision (as a player) if I want to build myself a king size bed made out of the skulls of children and then make a porno on top of it with some post-apocalyptic prostitute I drugged and kidnapped to star in said porno. At least that's what the advertisments say when they come with their bullshit about "player driven world" and "freedom of action" etc. But the games certainly don't live up to what the advertisments promise, and that pisses me off.

That's my point. I wouldn't really do those things in-game either. But i feel more immersed in the in-game world if I know that if I wanted to then I COULD do these reallt batshit-crazy stuff without the developers or publishers stopping me with their moralist "nuh-uh! Can't do that Mr. Lunatic. Because that is just WRONG!"

You know what mr. publisher/developer? So is stealing and murder, yet i've been able to do that for years in video games. I've probably performed several million in-game murders by now and you never tried to stop me then, so enough with the bullshit and let us gamers have the freedom in-game that we want. Let US be the judges of exactly how henious our in-game acts will be.

You could just nuke the place. Or get the children-killing mod.

Well I quite like having ghost towns, I genuinly think they should put one in the next Fallout game (Old Olney dosen't count, you can't explore the shops, and the Deathclaws are a menace) I do the same sometimes in Oblivion (I kill everyone in a couple of the towns whenever I get bored), and also I am a console gamer, so can't add mods.

Those wacky conservatives think that just because you can do something in a game, it will be the only thing players do. In actuality, it's usually just once for the novelty then gets largely ignored.

Theoretically, you are killing any number of babies every time you kill a woman in a video game. It's something I carried over from hunting: if you shoot a buck, you kill one deer. If you shoot a doe, you kill several.

I'm going to be the controvercial voice here and say there's no real reason it SHOULDN'T be in games. We murder adults, animals, aliens, sentient plants and occasionally entire planets, and all of those were considered innocent, at one point. Most people won't want to and almost everyone will find it distasteful, but let's be reasonable, here. Despite the innate innocence of small children, we already murder every other age group of humans in stupidly viscous ways.

It's an art/worth as a cultural medium/censorship thing as much as anything else, I guess. I don't really want the ability to kill children in games (Exception: Fallout 3, but there was a mod for that), but at the same time, purposely avoiding it feels like an emasculation of video games as a cultural medium. It's long been done by books and movies, and we've shown that, as a mature audience, we can handle that.
