Games that are so overrated

To an extent, almost every game is overrated, I mean, the average score for a game is between 7 and 8 of 10.

Surely the idea of a 1-10 scoring system is to have average games at 5, and above/below in the numbers in-between.

Bioshock.

Everyone was excited when the first one came around, because it was said that it was going to revolutionize the first-person-shooter. No...no it didn't. The game was severely average to me, and while the water and the whale at the beginning was pretty, most everything else looked kinda poo-y. But I don't care much for graphics, so whatever.

I mean, even South Park kind of spoofed on it, I think, though myself and others may have been reading into the episode a bit too much. The episode was Guitar Queer-O's, or some such title.

Heroine Hero - Said to the the best-ever first person 'shooter'.

Same thing for portal, sure everyone finds it great, but becoming a meme kinda kills it, also, it's like a 2 maybe 3 hour game, how many people play it after they beat it?

No one.

The people I know here treat Portal like god (which is over-hyped) and they only played it like 3-5 hours each, while their TF2 records reads 100+ hours.

I have finished Portal at least 3 times now. And I'm not a fanboy. I just think it's a great game. I'm not going to say anything about it being overrated, becouse I had been waiting a game like that for a long time.

See, I understand multiple playthroughs, but I don't get multiple playthroughs for puzzle-games, like Portal. You know the answers to every problem, and there is little to no random factors that don't depend on your own errors. Surely that cake joke and the other stuff GLADOS says can't be THAT funny/charming for so long.

I've played through Portal, and while I liked it, I would add that to my 'over-rated list', merely because I thought the most lasting part of the game was the song at the end. >>;

Bioshock. I didn't like it at all. Premise was good, but combat was broken, and there really was no story.

Timeslpitters 2. Thats right. I said it. The only good thing about it is multiplayer, and that arcade mode.

One overrated game that really irritated me was the original Far Cry.
I got it about a year after it came out, and while it WAS very very pretty, the AI was frustratingly accurate from 100+ miles away and had some sort of SUPERSONIC hearing and vision so that sneaking was impossible. If I so much as nudged slightly anywhere in ANY direction I'll hear an enemy 4 rooms down go "What was that noise?"
It made me want to beat things.

Don't get me wrong, this could practically be my own personal top five list of favourite games ever, but I still think they're overhyped. WARNING, MASSIVE WALLS OF TEXT BENEATH THESE SPOILERS.

Are people really so averse to reading that a paragraph constitutes a "wall of text"?

And to the OP, there are few things less original than starting an "overrated games" thread (this is like the fourth or fifth I've seen here in the last two weeks) and opening with listing Final Fantasy 7, Call of Duty, and Halo (which are the most common responses to such a thread).

You mean the same game that more or less single handedly got the video game industry out of the video game crash out the 80's and is a considerable reason for why the original Nintendo console got off at all?

Try not to confuse "significant" and "great".

I've played through Portal, and while I liked it, I would add that to my 'over-rated list', merely because I thought the most lasting part of the game was the song at the end. >>;

The replay value isn't strong, and most of the reason I posted that in the first place was to prove that someone has played Portal more than once... who's not even a fan. Also, at least one puzzle took me quite some time (~30 minutes). It can be fun when you play it every year or two.

I may be misunderstanding the OP's intent, but these types of threads are really starting to get annoying. Everything is overrated, just as everything is underrated. It's all based on personal preference.
