To start off, this thread isn't like the "Little known games you love" threads. This is about games that you really would expect to be high profile releases that are getting or have gotten very little press, and why you think that is.

An example of this is F.E.A.R 2. Now, the first game was very popular, and the second is coming out in a month. So, why is it getting so little attention?

Same for Heavy Rain, I'm guessing there will be some form of fanbase for it but Quantic Dream could really advertise more, the game's got brilliant graphics, an unique storyline, if it didn't appear to have similarities to Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) I'd say it was original, too

Yeah, I forgot about that, too bad I don't have a PS3, or I'd check it out when it comes out.

I just though of another example: Alpha Protocol. This game looks amazing, a cross between Mass Effect (in a lot, but not most, of the gameplay) and a spy movie (in that you're a spy, obviously).

Halo Wars, I am shocked that there are no TV ads, shocked.
That's a good point, although maybe they're just banking on word-of-mouth from all the current Halo fans. I've lost count of all the people on Halo 3 online who "can't wait" for Halo Wars. Probably they will be disappointed because it "isn't a Halo game", because, you know, Halo is a shooter and can never be anything else. :/

Ah, I take it you didn't see it. I only know of it because I watch sxephil on youtube.
Here's a link, because I can't think of any way to describe it.

Just follow it through until you hit a dead end. I thought it was pretty cool.

When I was cruising the feeds today I came across a story that was so strange I had to do a post on it. As you may already be aware, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is due for release in February, and promotions have begun in preparation for that. There has recently been a press release for the game, and in and of itself there is nothing strange about that, but the way in which it has been executed is about a 10 on the weird ‘o’ meter.

Mike Fahey, one of the guys over at Kotaku did a post shortly after Thanksgiving about a mysterious combination briefcase he had come into possession of, along with it video instructions from a shadowy figure (Zoinks). Mr. Shadow said to post an image of the briefcase on Kotaku and when it is confirmed that the image is on line he will send the combination for it via the F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin forums.

Well, Mike posted the image in an earlier post and low and behold a week later, shadowy figure guy posted the combination in the Project Origin forums. After all the waiting the briefcase was opened for the first time today and Mike posted the video on Kotaku. Once opened Mike discovered (as he predicted) a severed limb, nah just info on the upcoming F.E.A.R. 2 promotional event In New York.

Although we have seen some pretty meticulously crafted press releases before, this one certainly takes the cake. The briefcase wasn’t just delivered to Mike he had to follow instructions from an anonymous letter to go to a storage facility ( just two miles from his house) to pick up the briefcase. The fact that the guys over at Monolith were able to gather enough information to orchestrate this is really cool, and frankly a little scary. I think they should consider getting out of the game business and maybe give espionage a shot.
Wow. You see, that's what I'm, talking about. What's a game gotta do to get some attention?

I'm actually a little scared of Heavy Rain it looks like one long Quick Time Event and I hate QTEs. It's beautiful but it looks like the gameplay will be total (simon says press x or die) crap.

Valkyria Chronicles however is an amazing game that nobody knows about. They should've publicized the demo more. After trying it, I needed to play the whole thing.

Things is, Indigo Prohecy was all QTEs, and it was still amazing (or at least, the first half was, after that it got weird). This is coming from someone who usually hates QTEs, but in Indigo Prophecy, they were done right, and actually made you feel like you were doing the thing anyway (i.e, if he's going to dive to the left, you hit left on both sticks).

Although even in the first half of the game, a few of the QTEs felt tacked on, for instance, the dream sequences. Towards the end of the game it got even worse. That "boss fight" that was really a 5 minute long QTE gives me shivers.

I don't have anything against buttons (tastefully!) flashing on the screen; I just hate QTEs. If they are able to make it into an intuitive control scheme, I don't consider that a QTE.

However, in almost every case (like with No More Heroes or God of Wars) the game will just flash random buttons at you. That's just lazy programming.

Anyway Valkyria Chronicles needs more press. I hear they're trying: you get free swag if you go to the NY comicon dressed as one of the characters.

Borderlands and APB. I think it's safe to assume that both of them will arrive around December though, so hopefully it'll pick up by then.
