1. Impire.

Because of everything about it.

Looks like Dungeon Keeper. Was marketed around being like Dungeon Keeper. And I don't care how many times Cyanide issue denials about not trying to be a new Dungeon Keeper, people from their studio stated to the gaming press in interviews (one on this very site, I believe) that DK was an huge influence on what they were trying to do. And hey, it billed itself as a Dungeon-building RTS with dark humour in which you play the Bad Guy?. People can be forgiven for thinking - this will be a bit like Dungeon Keeper.

Welp.

It's nothing like DK. And not in any good ways, either. Horrible micromanagement, abysmal dialogue and pretty middling voice acting. I know a lot of people praise the VA in Impire, but I cannot think why. It's bad. But hey, that kind of thing is subjective. Same with the humour. I'm sure some people find it side-splitting. Me, I find it a terribly unfunny attempt to rehash Monty Python and The Holy Grail through the cheese-grater of Joss Whedon-esque 'banter.' With way too many attempts at 'referencing' other fantasy franchises to actually be funny. For me, only part of the game that provided amusement was right at the beginning, when I spotted the Magicka robes guys. Mechanically, it's pretty horrid, too. The much-maligned ladders thing. The unforgivably slow mouse scrolling. The pointless and tedious grinding required to do anything. Seriously - an RTS where you have to buy upgrades to allow you to have more than one squad? What. The. Actual. Fuck?

Paradox had given me many hours of entertainment via Mount & Blade and I kinda enjoyed the first few hours of Majesty. But Impire is just bad. Of course, many would say I should've expected this, because Cyanide Studios. But...Blood Bowl was pretty cool. And it was an entirely different dev team.

2. Endless Space.

Such pretty graphics. Such shiny spaceships. Such an unloved genre getting something new!

Such a lack of any depth below the pretty wrapping.

3. Far Cry 3.

Again...such a dismally shallow experience. And dat ending. :negative:

Saints Row: the Third.

Oh god, it started off decently, then it just went to the crapper so fast. How could a game constantly go one step forward and then immediately take two steps back off of a cliff? Example: "Combat is better than the last game? Good, we'll just go ahead and remove half of the customization and make your only choices at least a tiny bit outlandish then."

Watching the demo trailer for the Fourth installment also made me weep. Doesn't help that it's a stand alone expansion being quickly fleshed out into a full game. Will not buy.
Oh, yeah. SR4. :faecpalm:

Sonic 4: Episode 1. The levels/enemies/boss fights went so far beyond being recursive that it wasn't so much the intended nostalgia trip as it was self-plagiarism, and the physics were a royal pain. While some of the individual level gimmicks were nifty, and I do have to acknowledge that the new version of Labyrinth Zone is infinitely more enjoyable than the original, overall the experience was very meh.

It's a shame that they've decided not to release any more episodes though, as Episode 2 went a long way to make up for the disappointments of its predecessor: more original levels (rollercoaster for the win!), much better physics, Tails is actually useful for once, and some of the best boss fights the Sonic franchise has ever seen. Plus, freaking Metal Sonic comes back in a way that directly ties to Sonic CD, and he's out for blood this time. Hell, I'll go on record and say that while Episode 1 is easily my least favorite of the Sonic games I've played, Episode 2 is probably one of my favorites and an excellent example on how to do a follow-up.

LOTR Conquest. Supposedly a Lord of the Rings version of Battlefront.

LOLNO!

Still mad at EA for rushing that game out and driving Pandemic into the ground

Every Fable game deserves a mention as well.
Double post because I missed this. The Fable series can be best summed up as 'Peter Molyneux constantly getting ahead of himself and releasing something more and more inferior than the last.'

Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword.
^-- screw that game. Fell in love with M&B Warband. Enjoyed it immensely despite the massively dated graphics. I adored the way the campain played and the choices you had in it. Fire and Sword was... bad. The pathway to victory was always to spam riflemen. Gather as many as you possibly can. Make a GIANT wall of riflemen. Line them up in 3 rows, watch the fireworks. A buncha horsemen comming at you? No problem! The first salvo kills them all instantlY! You want to have an impact on the battelfield? Cower like a little boy in a burning building behind your riflemen. When the enemy get close let them exchange shots, ride in on your mount, and hit a few guys, then flee before they are done reloading. Repeat. I enjoyed being able to ride in solo and pick off 2 or 3 archers before fleeing. Then doing it again. This game was a waste of my time... Doesnt change that I will be eagerly anticipating Bannerlord...

I enjoyed the Call of Duty franchise. 2, 3, modern warfare, and World at War. I was immensely dissapointed in the hackathon that was MW2. Hackers would literally spam advertise their cheats while standing in the middle of the map and insta-headshotting anyone who came within LoS with their LMGs. Meh. Black ops 1 was pretty good. Rather enjoyed both singleplayer and multiplayer. Havent really bothered with any more CoD's on the PC except Black ops 2. Thatw as a bad idea. The gunplay is good in these games, i dont care what other people say. It feels right and is a lot of fun.

Every MMO after WoW. Holy crap, copycat much? If i watn to play WoW, im ganna play WoW. I played WoW since its release and recently finally turned my sub off. I never bothered with raiding or serious PVP but it was one of those games i could seriously just chill out in. Just... why the hell? Every MMO after that came out except a very very very tiny pool were such piles of steaming doodoo that i just... STRANGLE THE PUBLISHERS AND DEVS. ARGH. SWTOR was a huge let down. WHY!? The few redeeming MMOs have been Planetside 2 (There are only 3 real MMOFPS games out there. Planetside 1, Planetside 2, and Battlegrounds Europe. Anyone who says otherwise is a blind moron. Lobby shooters are not MMOs), GW2, Tera was... good. If it wasnt for the loli crap and EVERY FEMALE GETS HIGH HEELS. EVEN THE ONES THAT HAVE CLAWS FOR FEET. YEAH, HIGH HEELS MADE OF CLAWS!

Every star wars game that I got my hands on except Battlefront 1 and Jedi Academy. I never played TIEFIGHTER or the other real classic Starwars ones. So I have no opinion on them. Its just... almost every other Starwars game i got my hands on after Jedi Knight was just... ewww. You go and shit out that glorious golden egg that was Jedi Knight. Then the rather tastey cake that was Republic Commando. Then you serve 9 hour boiled eggs...? What the hell? Whyyy!? What I would give to see more Jedi Knights. I dont know how you would recapture what was Republic Commando!

I could go on for a while, but yeah... Opinions are fun!

EDIT: Minor grammatical fixes and censoring cusswords. Writing my opinion and I was a bit of a pottymouth ;D

Silent Hill: Homecoming. It seems like a lot of its content is fan-service and I really am not a fan of the combat system. Much prefer the older games

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.
I really wanted to like this game when it first came out. I had such fond memories of the first two games, I thought they couldn't possibly screw this up. But the more I played it, I realized it just didn't capture that same feeling that the first two did. That and I mean, come on, CARS!?

Armored Core V and Halo 3.

Armored Core V was a complete (and in my opinion unwelcome) revamp of the series. I love the PS1 Armored Cores, I love the PS2 Armored Cores (both pre- and post-Nexus), and I love Armored Core 4 and 4A. I just couldn't get into Armored Core V.

After Halo 2, I was so hyped up going into the last one of the trilogy that there was no way I wasn't going to be disappointed. I guess it just felt kind of flat. I loved ODST and Reach though, but with the new team (and worst of all, no Martin O'Donnell), I didn't expect all that much from Halo 4. As such, I enjoyed it for what it was, even if it didn't quite capture that Halo feel.

I used to love Final Fantasy, but I can't say that I've been terribly disappointed with the series lately. Like with Halo 4, I just don't get all that hyped for them in the first place. I play them, I go "meh", and I move on.

The soul crushing disappointment...after years of waiting...*sobs*

There was stuff to like, like the production values, the music, the mythology and the world itself, but the main cast was pretty weak (with he exception of Sazh, who is one of the best characters in the series for me) the story makes little sense (why doesn't the Fal'Cie just not tell the L'cie what they want done, giving them a blurry vision of nothing isn't going to help) The combat was cool at first, but it alienates the player by having auto attack choose the absolute best action for the situation.
I went into Final Fantasy XIII fully expecting it to be bad and I was still massively disappointed. I mean, I had been told to goi in with low expectations but still. Oh dear.

I was pretty disappointed by God Hand. Sure the combat system was well-built, but the humour fell flat for me and the rest of the game was shoddy. I know it was a rushed release because Clover went under but it still underwhelmed me.

I was also disappointed by Soul Calibur IV. I don't know, I think going into it after playing Soul Calibur III, which I absolutely loved, was a bit of a bad decision. I guess I was just expecting too much. Assassin's Creed: Revelations was much the same situation - I'd loved the previous games and I was maybe expecting a little too much out of it so I found myself underwhelmed by it.

Generally I don't find myself all that disappointed by too many games. I try to go in with realistic expectations.

No More Heroes. Everyone raved about it but it was just repetitive action buffered by minigames based on jobs so tedious we give them to immigrants.

Saints Row 3. Sure it had more toys but the rest of it just wasn't as interesting to tool around in.

New Vegas. That game hardly worked.

Dishonored. After all the good press and positive user reviews, all I got to experience was a game that tried mixing stealth and action elements but failed miserably at it.

Fallout New Vegas. The story line and character interaction was better than in Fallout 3 but the world in New Vegas was just so goddamn uninteresting to explore, pretty much ruined it for me.

Halo 4 felt more like fanservice than an actual sequel. Basically showing Master Chief is still better than anyone else despite having antiquated tech, a rampaging AI and no information on what the heck is going on. All summed up by QTE-ing the technologically superior Big Bad left me feeling hollow.

Dungeon Siege 3: Geez everything that could go wrong went wrong. The voice acting was half believable, the pacing was never right, and the enemies were just so generic for so long that I literally fell asleep trying to fight some boss. I really wanted to enjoy this after playing 2, but I shouldn't have to need a cup of coffee just to get through a chapter!

Star Trek:Yeah the fact that it was a tie in for a movie should have already slated this for the bargain bin but what little I did see, I really wanted this to be good. I was hoping(stupidly) for another Elite Force, and what I got...well Yahtzee has already said it all.

You bring many new views on Skyward Sword that i haven't even considered before. I must admit i don't find the flying over world bad, but I do heavily agree on how the worlds don't feel properly connected. Glad we agree on the pouch and the upgrade system, too. And god damn that oversight. I hate it too. Happens in Twilight Princess as well.

I get a whip? Awesome. I haven't got that far yet obviously but I'm working on it. Haha But yeah I hate how I can have a great shield but it can break, it's like. Why? Why do you make me have to carry a shield durability restoring item in my pouch (or the Saint Shield or w/e) so I don't have to go back to the surface. Now you're just taking more item slots from me! Bleugh

Fi can go to hell with her 'helpfulness' by which I mean she doesn't help except for said cutscenes you mentioned. I liked Goddess Chests since otherwise I'd never go to the places on the world map, ever.

Hate to be annoying though, but what is your avatar? It reminds me of Naoto and I'd kindal ike to see the original if you have the time to show it. XD

I was looking forward to Homefront and F.3.A.R for well over a year before they came out but when I played them I only got about and hour in before I got bored.

DNF was supposed to be the second coming of the old school FPS but instead we got a piece of shit with the worst parts of modern shooters.

Also Uncharted 2 > Uncharted 3

Disappointment... something every gamer has experienced. Media-hypes, peer-pressure, etc., for me it usually was an unreliable source of new gaming material. Here we go...

I Am Alive - A 'survival after Doomsday' game, I stopped playing after 27 minutes. 27 minutes! I got lured in by the promising trailer and commercials, and the previews were good either. The game didn't deliver on the drama, and for emotions, well, it did pissed me off, but in the wrong way. Unresponsive controls (oh you are not/too close enough for that action, so I'm going to do something else and get you killed), unrealistic reactions (the game tried to bring in some scenario's that looked like you had a choice, but I found out, time and time again, that there really was only one way out).

Recettear: an Item Shop's tale - Being a fan and veteran of RPG-style games, I got excited when I read about this game. Instead of playing a hero, collecting loot and experience, you are a shop owner said hero would encounter on his travels! Very original! However... you don?t have time to take it easy: every part of the day must eventually lead to an increase of your cashflow. Unfortunately, this creates rather frustrating situations. For example, you want some good-selling items, as the deadline for the current chapter is coming up, but cannot buy them from a dealer (not in stock, or too expensive). So you venture into a dungeon, slay enemies, and hope for good drops.

If you?re unlucky, you will only get bad or cheap items. So, you lost time for that day with little or no advantage. Now you need to get lucky in the store while selling the items and hope to haggle in such a way that you gain at least enough money to cover the costs for visiting the dungeon.
This counts more towards having a customer wanting a specific item: he places an order, and you need to get it before he returns. Guess what happens if the item simply won?t drop, or can?t be found somewhere else!

You cannot do anything about this ?luck? factor, or plan ahead or around it. This gets increasingly annoying throughout the game, as you start to feel the game is deliberately taunting you. Speaking of annoyances?

Recette is an non-assertive girl, has no confidence in her abilities and doubts herself every time something bad happens. This translates to annoying remarks, especially during haggling. For example, a customer comes in and wants to sell you an item you don?t want. The only way to not buy the item is to bid a very low price, have the customer disagree, and leave. Recette will always say something along the lines of ?I have no talent? or ?Can I really do this??.
It undermines the action and result of the player?s choice, and I got increasingly agitated with it.

When dungeneering (not a word, get with it), Recette cannot stop asking the hero if he?s all right after he gets hit. Every single time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Why is this necessary? Why does she need to ask?

And boy, are you going to hear it often. The controls in the dungeon feel stiff, and despite seeing your hero hit an enemy, more often than not you will miss the creature, and get hit by it instead. Some enemies have such erratic patterns that it is almost impossible to predict their actions. Some enemies shoot fireballs that track the hero wherever he is, and will almost always result in a hit. Enough hits, and the hero gets incapacitated, you lose the items you collected so far, and you lose the time without getting anything in return.

Recettear is a broken promise, like finding a shiny, round object on the beach the size of a high value coin, but discover it to be a worthless bottlecap.

Endless Space - No tutorial. NO TUTORIAL. In a game with so much choices you have to make, it would have been nice that instead of having to go online and find an answer every time you get stuck, you would have at least gotten an introduction via the game or something. But no.

Symphony - "Symphony is one of the most music-driven games ever made. In this vertical shooter, re-experience each of your songs as it becomes a unique battlefield driven by intensity and tempo." Unfortunately, this statement doesn't agree with reality. It's just a shooter that changes depending on what songs you play in the background. I expected unique levels, based on the songs you chose, but no.

To many to name the big one I will always remember is GTA3 its GTA in 3D it should be epic right right? no its dull and boring and tedious at least that was my experience I just remember the game crushing all my optimism and desire to enjoy it as its mediocrity set in.

Guitar Hero 2 the first one was amazing and then the second came out and it just wasnt as good mainly due to the songs I reckon but still it was very dissapointing.

Left 4 dead 2 bigger and more varied than the first it should be a winner but it just wasnt as fun it seemed to have lost the spark that made the original so good I just did not enjoy it anywhere near as much.

Mario Galaxy 2 damn I was so hyped for this game I loved galaxy but I did not like the design changes they made to this game I dont know exactly where the fault is the levels are still fantastically designed its just that I always came away frustrated and pissed off after playing it regardless of whether I did well or not oh and why the hell does it not save your lives?

+ countless others.

The first assassin's creed disappointed me, because I expected it to be as good as the 2nd (which, btw, is probably the most improved sequel in the history of gaming). It wasn't. Still a decent game though.

Dungeon siege 3 also disappointed me. Holy hell, the controls for PC on that game are horrendous.

I'd agree entirely with this. I was buzzing because it came out just as I bought my 360 (swapped from ps3). I was so, so dissapointed. I might give it another go this summer but in all honesty I'll probably just play Ix or X again. The fact that you end up just clicking auto attack half the time is so rubbish.

The obvious one would be Diablo 3. Waited so many years, went through so much hype and the final product was... awful.
Gameplay was fun at first, but it lacked everything that makes hack n slash games fun. Played it really heavily for the first week after release and haven't touched it since. :(
