But if you hooked up the PS1 to play it...Yeah. It's aged like shit.

Yeah I think they're just going for games if you try to play now that are older than the current gen consoles. But even now if I tried to make a top 10 of my most favorite games from start to finish, Earthbound would make its way on there--even though it's an older game. I don't feel like it has aged. You could slap Earthbound in a DS cartridge and I'd bet it would sell.rekabdarb said:Because if you think it's gameplay, then i think no game has aged poorly... because that's how they came out. If it's graphics, yet again slapped in the face. Of course newer games will look better. But if it's the story, then... well back to the first thing.
Do you mean a lot of OLD games? or a lot of new games are ridic hard.smearyllama said:Good point.
It's just that a lot of games are ridiculously hard now, with all the checkpoints, infinite respawns, and such that we have now.
It's really just how you want to interpret it, though.
What's your definition of a game aging poorly?
I think by "aged" people are referring to how they hold up against modern games. As an analogy, it is like once you have had really good cheese you can never go back to eating Velveeta. Or something.rekabdarb said:Anyways, Define "age"

Ok Mario 64 is kind of a bad example x3 I can't think of any 3D platformers to compare it to though, I just think the original Spyro games are brilliant.Onyx Oblivion said:Oh god. You think Mario 64 aged well...No wonder you don't mind Spyro.Dexiro said:Really? I find the original Spyro games as easy to play as ever, they've aged no worse than something like Mario 64.Onyx Oblivion said:Anyway, Spyro has aged liked fried shit, thanks to modern camera control!
I find Mario 64 to be absolute rubbish at this point, with the advances of Sunshine and Galaxy.
I think it would hold up better if it had better out of combat character models.mapguru said:I'd say Final Fantasy 7, when it came onto PSN it was pretty cool to be playing it out where and whenever I liked. However that wore off quickly and it was like, ok not point in going on. Also the graphics pale compared to some rpgs we can play on mobile systems. Persona 3 Portable comes to mind.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that, my friend.baddude1337 said:The original 3 Resident Evil games, and Dino Crisis 1 and 2.
They now both look and play terribly.
I have a universal taste, if i like something once, i'll probably like it again 10 years down the line. Like Legend of Dragoon, I'll agree it does look very pixely, it's still fun. I don't play games for the graphics... that's what movies and real life is for.CitySquirrel said:I think by "aged" people are referring to how they hold up against modern games. I have a (different) friend who won't play turn based RPGs after playing FFXII because, for him, after playing a game like XII he can't go back to the old turn based "select a command and press a" style of combat. Will still a matter of taste, I can sort of understand this. It is hard for me to get into some of the old SNES RPGs because after playing with more active systems, I just don't find any fun in the old ones. (I'm still not as bad as him, though.)
I would disagree entirely. They're so rooted in specific play-styles that go hand in hand with the gaming generation they're from. There isn't anything quite like the old survival horror style going around right now (that I know of anyway) and that helps to make them still feel fresh.baddude1337 said:The original 3 Resident Evil games, and Dino Crisis 1 and 2.

I like to think that Legend of Dragoon will be a well remembered underrated classic in ten years due to it's lack of milking and sequel stagnation.rekabdarb said:I have a universal taste, if i like something once, i'll probably like it again 10 years down the line. Well that's not entirally true. His original adventures have aged marvelously since everyone seems to look on them with rose-tinted glasses 10" thick.AWDMANOUT said:http://link.man-ma.de/Arts/SONIC%20FROM%20SA2%20-%202.png

I predict this as the moment that the thread goes to hell. =PAlphavillain said:"Zelda: OoT"
Play MGS on the gamecube. Its a remake of the PS1 version with better graphics and controls.smearyllama said:Sounds good.number2301 said:It's worth that, I still think it looks pretty decent as it's well past the point where graphics held back gameplay. If you go straight for the sequel you may be put off for life.smearyllama said:Okay, so is it worth the $10 or so on PSN, or should I skip straight to MGS2?Onyx Oblivion said:MGS has aged...poorly.
The story is great, but the general gameplay has not aged too well. Then again, MGS4 still used the annoying shoulder button inventory system...
I've hear that the controls are kinda funky, but I can deal.
