Games that came close:

FFXII: For the worst reason possible--it didn't emotionally touch me but that the ending was just so downright bland that I nearly cried over the fact that "I WASTED 80 HOURS FOR THIS?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"

Seiken Densetsu 3: The character endings with Religion Thunder playing = pretty moving.

Starwish: who ever thought a FLASH GAME could be emotionally riveting? Play this one ASAP!

I actually cried when in FF7 that love interest girl dies.

Sorry guys. I still think that the FF games are awesome.
........ =_= really? i just got finished explaining to someone why everything about the FF series sucks. all of those characters are cut and paste shallow anime characters with anime reactions to everything.

go try Mafia 2 when joe's kid friend dies.
Haha don't worry! We all have different tastes, and I'm happy that it is so.
I happen to like anime characters, and think that the vast majority of western games (and the characters within) are bland and boring, with some shining exceptions of course. But I kinda dislike western games so I will probably not try it.

All respect to you though, and a toast for different tastes! *sip*

I ..... I....i have no idea how to react to that. there's a difference between 'a difference of opinions' and 'give respect where respect is due'

ummmmmmmmmm.......I haven't cried in years....And no game/book/movie has ever made me cry.

Although looking at everyone's reactions in Majora's mask on the night of the 3rd day was depressing to the point that I literally said "OMG OMG OMG...I just...I have to rewind this...I HAVE to fix this...it's...it's too much". And The ending for Shadow of the collosus made me feel really sad...

But never cry. I only cry when I am in serious pain.

Indeed.
When I first tried the Death Knight class in Wrath of the Lich King, I came across a quest telling me to go and execute a captured Night Elf (I was playing a Night Elf Death Knight and therefore had to kill the Nigh Elf). WhenI got into the little house with all the prisoners, I walked up and out of nowhere the night elf told this story about the characters childhood and ho I used to be, which honestly made me cry. I seriously whished I could walk away, or let someone else do the job.
I actually had to take a 15 min break just to cry. I never cmpleeted the quest and shortly after I deleted the Death Knight, just because I looked at her as a heartless monster.

Another vote for FFVII Crisis Core. Even though I've played the original VII so many times and I knew, knew, what was going to happen, I still couldn't help myself when it actually did.

Aeris getting killed back in 1997 did for me as well. And I also can't watch the very end of Advent Children without crying like a girl. Damn you Square!

Various bits of Dragon Age have also been known to make me sniffle. Namely Alistair sacrificing himself. I couldn't bear to watch that one.

Lost Odyssey almost got me, but I held it in. That scene where Kaim finds his daughter was the thing that almost did it for me. Nothing else in the game made me feel that way, and hardly anything in movies or games make me either, but that was just sad.

I thought I'd feel something in Gears of War 2, with Dom and Maria, but the only thing that went through my mind was "pwned", and then the party moved on.

Oh, actually The Bard's Tale got me sad when something happened to the dog. Sad and then mad, and I wanted to kill everything in the game. Poor dog.

The final battle on "Elite Beat Agents".

The part when the agents get frozen in rock, and the little girl starts the "E.B.A." chant. Gets me everytime i see it.
I might be able to cry at that if I ever get past it. XD

Crisis core and dear god did I cry at that.
FF10; that was just a little tear running down my cheek,I'm still tuff... right?
Can I just say that even though ANYONE who played Final Fantasy VII knew how that game was going to end, we all secretly hoped it wouldn't because Zack is just so awesome D:
Yeah killing off the more loveable characters is something the creators of Final Fantasy games always seem to do. XD

It really hit ouf of the blue: The ending of Kingdom Hearts gets me every time. Funny enough, this is pretty much the only game that can do it. However, despite the bullshit Kudzu plot of pretty much the rest of the series, the ending to 358/2 Days is ALMOST too beautifully tragic not to cry for.

You say a series is filled with cardboard cutouts and then you go and reccoment Mafia II? Do I need to link the Yahtzee review? The games themselve make it apprently clear that they're going to play EVERY mafia trope completely straight just with the title.

Fuck that, let's just consider that FFXII just up and ENDS without us ever understanding ANYTHING about these rival empires. Why are they enemies? What ideological differences lead them to war? Did they try trade? Which is more culturally open, more economically just?

And if it was going for the typical Metal Gearisms of either "War is pointless, so it doesn't matter who's fighting, you shouldn't root for either of them." or "These countries aren't even that different to begin with, so (see previous quote)" it did NOT hit the point hard enough. Also, you know what else almost drove me to tears? THE ENDLESS FUCKING GRINDING.
