I have just recently actually given Dragon Age a fair go, i got the original, played until Ostegar, realized i was enjoying myself this time (the last time i think i probably gimped my character or something, i have a tendency to do that first time round with RPGs) so i got the expansion and then later the DLC.

After i had been playing it a few nights in a row, and especially once i got towards the end game of the original, i started to notice that i was giving serious thought to what i was going to do next in the game, or remembering particular conversations etc while i was not playing...and this is the first time this has ever happened to me, and to clarify, i am not ignoring my life or any of the responsibilities, other than lack of sleep, but the game really got to me and i was genuinely sad when it all ended.

My question is, has this ever happened to anyone else?

Beyond Good and Evil

I just really thought about everything that was happening and genuinely felt for the characters.

I think I calculate my moves in all the games I play and if I play them long enough, I even dream about them and think on "what if's".

That being said, I think the Witcher is where I was constantly forced to make decisions and thought about what might happen. I was also sad when Neverwinter Nights 2 ended and when
West Harbor was burned to the ground and I saw the bodies of those whom I actually liked like Georg
I think that if you like a game well enough, it will start to get to you. Especially an RPG.

Baldur's Gate 2. First played it when I was like 7 and still play it and remember it. John Irenicus and Jan Jansen were just awesome.

XD In terms of immersion, I have to admit that I fell madly in love with Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne.
It has depth, interesting characters, amazing monsters that all stem from all sorts of mythological areas.
Not to mention, open ended and really breath taking.
There isn't a game out there that can make me feel the way that game did.

Read Dead Redemption.
First I couldn't admit that he was really gone. Then I got angry that the developers would kill off such a great character. Then I started believing that surely there would be some way to play as him again, some code, something. I would have performed any task if only to get him back. Then I couldn't bring myself to play. I would turn the console on and hear Jack's grating screeches, and I would turn it off just as quickly. Finally, I gave in and went back to complete the side quests, accepting that my time with John had been good and I was ready to move on.

Then they gave him back to me as a zombie.

If I've been playing a game excessively they usually have some form of influence on my dreams. When I was playing Fallout 3 religiously I know that VATS snuck their way into my head to infiltrate my mind. The other night, after playing a lot of Lego Harry Potter, my dream was influenced by it. Most of the time it's awesome.

Red Dead Redemption was a great game with many diverse characters. The atmosphere was perfect and the music went along really nice. Usually thouh I try to imagine I'm watching a movie more than playing a game. Especially when it comes to the ending which was good in one way and stupid in another.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction was a big impact on my gaming life. there was just something about that game that I loved so much that I couldn't stop playing, and I still do. I just love the characters so much, the way the war is presented through the eyes of different factions and the ties and rivalries they all have.

Dynasty Warriors 4. This is the game that got me into history. Ever since I played DW4 I have always been interested about learning about different wars from history and this eventually branched off into politics and other subjects of history. DW4 not only affected my gaming, but my intelligence too...somehow.

it is good to know that i am not some freak who got waaayyyy into a game, but did any of you guys think about it when you weren't playing it, i mean, as i posted somewhere else i based my decisions in dragon age on if a character i really liked cared or not, even if i didn't use them...but i would be at work and in the back of my mind i was thinking about what would come next...is that weird?

I do that too but then I have way too many math classes. I think it's fairly normal to consider them real people since that is mostly the intent of the developers. I think about games fairly often, actually and I think a lot of gamers do.

And to write spoilers:

[*spoiler*] and to end it [/*spoiler*] without the *

Vanquish had me for days.

I must have beaten it 4 times before it left my disc drive.

Most games that manage to engage me in their stories, even simple stories like Killzone 2 or Saints Row 2, make me think them over days after the game has been completed.

If a game has choices, I pretty much always put serious thought into them. Especially Alpha Protocol, because that game is ingenious.

If only it was a better GAME.

Red Dead Redemption was a fantastic game.

Do NOT read the spoilers if you dont want the game ruined.

When John Marston is killed at the end, I actually screamed "NO!" at the top of my voice. I had played it virtually non stop, and was so immersed in the games story and characters I was close to tears when he was killed. I have never been that emotional involved with any characters, in a game, film or book.

Then when I had to chance at revenge, I took it. Happily. Slaughtered the FBI agents wife with a knife (In hindsight it was not her fault, but killing her would hurt my new found enemy) and killed his brother when I learnt his location. Then killed the Agent himself, and filled his body with every bit of my ammo, then blew it into the river.

So yeah, I was quite attached to him

Baldur's Gate I and II.

The first time I played II I swore furious vengeance against Irenicus after finding Khalid.
I liked Khalid.
And Dynaheir.

Fallout 3, that game not only invaded my dreams, i also invaded my conscious mind, i started to see my home town as a desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland and it lasted for three weeks.
