Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

...seriously, I could deal with every other bad game I have ever played if this crispy piece of deep fried fecal matter had never been green lit...and fans of the series had gotten the real third part...
Critics and a lot of fans I know (including myself) think that it's a nice and refreshing addition to the series. It was mediocre at worst. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Alright, at this point I can only presume that you're still talking about Mario Galaxy 2 since you're not using names or the quote button.

You started by saying that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was shit. I gave you several reasons why I absolutely loved it. What are your reasons for disliking it, I ask. "Yahtzee said it was crap! He said it was the same as the first one with a different name." You said you agreed. Now look at the quoted text above.

See a problem?

Anyway, I don't think I'll get a reason for your distaste for the game, not one of substance anyway. So, to recap, I love this game because for me it represents the pinnacle of platform gaming; everything that's gone into the series since the 80's has culminated in a game wherein every level has a unique approach to fun. You think it's too much like its predecessor, which you haven't played (?), and you don't like it because you don't like it.

OK!

Fallout 3.

Angry Fallout fanboy rage!!!!

Joking, of course Fallout 3 is an OK game not nearly so bad that it should never have been.
The DLC on the other hand is.

Oh and Final Fantasy 7.
Agreed with Fallout 3, Anchorage and Zeta were shit. Also why is it some people say sadly Fallout 3 isn't Van Buren? Essentailly New Vegas is Van Buren. Sure we get a few snippets about the plot and a demo but outside that we don't know how the execution would have been or much else for that matter.

OT: Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. If you though Tatics was a lazy lore raping cash-in wait until you play this monstrosity. I think Fallout 3 was first person because of this god awful piece of shit. Fallout 3 made a fantastic world with an unfortunate lack luster work horse of a story, but at least they tried. Brotherhood of Steel on the other hand, takes Fallout takes out the RPG and strips it down to a soul-less run and gun with an equally half assed story.
New Vegas is a very watered down Van Buren based on what we got from the leaked documentation Van Buren was huge.

And yes BOS should never have been made. I usually don't think of it because I don't like to admit it exists.
At least with New Vegas and Fallout 3 the world felt big and ruined at least at times with New Vegas. If they went with the old model of blip moving across the map for Van Buren then they could make the damn map as big as they pleased and it really would make no differance. Besides, big world doesn't equal good game. In fact it could have been the opposite. Too big a world and not enough production time, and with Interplay biting the dust this could have very well been the case, Van Buren could have been the rushed game with more bugs than a 2 star motel and more empty than an abandoned shack in Vegas that only gets the role of a loctation because of a damn blue star cap.

I would have liked to see Van Buren in it's intended form, it looked good although what we got for infomation on it was small for such a huge under taking. Heck while we're at it I'd love to see all horrible games/rush jobs in their intended form.

God, now I feel like I'm picking on the special kid.

You created this thread. Did you not want responses?

I'm asking you: mors616, not Yahtzee. I watched that review as well, and I don't need a recap from someone who becaues dont know to do that! I want to know for what specific reasons do you regard Mario Galaxy 2 as shite when clearly...

No i believe that was directed at me, because I tried to encourage him to use the quote button so people know who he is talking to and so that for other people reading his post will have some context, as you can see it didn't end very well
True. I don't ever want to be accused of being an ageist on the Escapist.
Indeed, and I half think that he isn't using the quote feature to try to bug me, but it's ok because sooner or later he will have to give in
No, I just think he's not using it because he doesn't know what he's doing. Not quoting is only one of the signs.

Apologies to all for the repeated long posts. Escapist isn't letting me highlight text for deletion.

It is true. (nods sadly)

Mine are the last Dinotopia game I picked up. How can you keep ruining a game that has people living with dinosaurs in an awesome landscape? Sheesh! Let me just run around and find out what the place is like on my own and give me a pterodactyl to ride already!

And of course Jade Cocoon 2. The first game was fantastic and deep and actually had mature themes that were about love, loss, and personal sacrifice. The second had boys who "had to grow stronger" and girls who were cheerleaders. Literally. Way to kill a good game franchise.

I am still sad about both of these things.

I seriously would be OK with this becoming a pony thread, just because it was created in the spirit of hate. If said hate were directed toward rushed projects (such as the aforementioned movie tie-ins, of course excluding Goldeneye and Spiderman 2) and games that weren't a labor of love, then I'd be all for it. That's art/entertainment that insults the audience, and I'm a big believer in reciprocity. But it's not, so please, someone, bring in the overlarge, hyperactive pastel-explosion GIFs.

OP (that's you Mors), it's very unhealthy to smoke opion. You may become incontinent of bowel and bladder.

Wow, good question. A game that SHOULD NOT have been made means, to me at least, must require something beyond being a bad game. After all, if it's merely bad, then all that means is that you avoid it. No should or should not involved, the publishers themselves paid the price for making a pile. What game was made that actually made gaming worse overall?

I still don't know for certain, but let me put down a few possibles:

Doom. Not because it was bad. It wasn't. It was awesome...but thanks to Doom there's just been a flood of samey-same FPSes since. It was so successful, that it spawned a bunch of incompetent imitators.

WOW. Same as above. It's so successful that it establish a pattern that other game creators are afraid to deviate from.

SWG, but this one actually should have been made, just not they way it was. Such promise thrown away so that everyone could be a dang Jedi. Good start, but then it learned all the wrong lessons.

Final Fantasy VII? Established the rail RPG as a viable game?

Good question from the OP.

PS: Max Payne? Created bullet time that EVERYONE had to put into their games.

Off Topic: Fortunately I got good enough information to avoid those. Point Lookout was... half interesting. Yes there is a very good payoff sequence, but open-terrain baddies are STUPIDLY hard to kill and just having PL installed lets Ghoul Reavers and another flavor of XL Supermutant into the DC area. I won't rate it as "shouldn't have been made," but for fuck's sake, it feels like I need a patch to scale down the difficulty on the DLC?

On topic: um... X-Wing vs TIE Fighter
Totally Games re-hashed DOS titles 'X-Wing' and 'TIE Fighter' in one game for Windows. Along the way they cut out just enough to make the single player campaigns feel hollow, while adding 'features' that were both unnecessary and incredibly annoying (like a very tinny computer voice announcing that the target's shields were down to 75%, 50%, 25%... argh! [Naturally there was no possibility of disabling that]). The game did introduce multiplayer X-Wing v TIE combat, but this was 1997 and most everyone was on dialup, which made multiplayer very laggy and frustrating. So the game turned out to be a horrible curiosity like a Budha with a clock in its belly. Now I can't say that the game should NEVER have been made, because it would actually do alright if it were released right now - without trying to 'improve' on two DOS games that were pretty DAMN good.

So Goldeneye should have never been made. What about Spider-man 2 was also a fun game, repetitive but fun. What about the telltale Back to the future games. The Indiana Jones for SNES and the Super Star Wars games also for the SNES. some of the Harry Potter games were ok. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean. Shall I go on?

Force Unleashed 2: glorified demo not a full game
Final Fantasy X-II: dance dance JRPG!

there may have been a few good nintendo games but this was not one of them
You're giving Yahtzee way too much credit. He's a funny comedian, but a terrible critic. Once, Yahtzee said he hoped to one day be the video game equivalent of Roger Ebert. Well, he's got the caustic attitude down, but he lacks Ebert's insightfullness. Zero Punctuation reviews regularly skip over core mechanics (like level design and power ups in a Mario game). At the moment, Yahtzee is just another jerk who was discovered on youtube and has yet to earn his attitude. He's not gaming's Roger Ebert; he's gaming's Justin Bieber.

But, hey, at least Yahtzee is funny.

A little off topic, but I suddenly remembered this video while reading mors616's post. I wonder why...

As for games that should never have been made. Umm...Custer's Revenge?

Probably Galleon on the original Xbox. It's still, to this day, the one game I wanted to completely forget about, but it was just SO terrible. D:
