Well I have two games I thought were going to be great and felt meh towards them. Legend of Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. TP held my attention the longest and i even made it past the first wolf part. Once I reached the second I couldn't take it anymore. WW, well forced stealth, the end

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm.

I was kinda expecting it to be average or suck, after Naruto Rise of a Ninja.

But then it blew me away!

Also, I didn't think I'd enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4, but up untill my copy(from the store unopened) hit a never ending loading screen, I was really enjoying it.

Civ Revolution.

The Cronicles of Riddick.

A kingdom Of Keflings.

Batman Arkham Asylum.

Two Worlds 2
Two Worlds 2 is out?

OT: New Vegas.

What can I say? After leaving it to get patched first Obsidian have actually made something good.

I'll still punch any of their employees that I meet over KotOR 2 though.
Sure, came out a bit before Christmas. It get´s good about an hour in.
Huh.

I still refuse to play it, on the basis that Two Worlds is literally the worst game I have ever played.

Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes. i bought it 'cause it was like $5 on the Steam holiday sale and it looked mildly amusing. but it turned out to be one of the most fun games i've picked up in quite a while (mostly due to incredible dialogue). i could have paid 4x as much and still thought it was a bargain.

Metro 2033, found it on sale in Gamestop for $20 and thought "I could use another shooter," now its my favorite game ever.

The Chronicles of Riddick, $15 for two games, thats the only reason I bought it, and now Ive beaten Butcher Bay 3 times and almos beat Dark Athena.

Definitly Portal all I expected was a simple but cool FPS puzzle game, but ended up getting one of the greatest games of all time.

Castlevania Lords of shadow is a recent example of a game that was much better than I thought it would be. After hearing it was a cheap lazy god of war rip off, I didn't come into it expecting it to be much more than that, and holy shit was I surprised. Amazing graphics, Great Presentation, Tight Gameplay and Patrick Steward, what more could you want.

Metro 2033 was also a shock to the system when I played that. I didn't even expect it to be...that good.

To be honest, not many games have surprised me as i read and research about games before i buy them but one that was a very pleasant surprise was Tales of Vesperia JRPG, i was blown away at a game where it was an RPG where you get to participate in the fights rather than direct them, and the very deep crafting / weapon modding drew me in.

I thought Just Cause 2 would be a lot better. I was mostly disapointed in the gameplay and shockingly the size of the map being TOO big.

World of Warcraft. I downloaded the trial after a certain episode of South Park piqued my curiosity and put the game down immediately. About a year or two later, all my friends decided to get into it so I did too and enjoyed it.
