Duke Nukem Forever,

Yes it was shit, the jokes were TERRIBLE, the level design was god-awufl, the jumping puzzles blew, the puzzles in general blew, the two weapon limit and regen health were unexcusable.

but for some reason, I still enjoyed it.

Without it that table would have remained wonky (i'm far too cheap to buy a new one).

Why is it that these topics always include games like "Mirror's Edge", "Call of Duty", etc? Some may hate it, but I wouldn't call them universaly reviled!

For some truly despised games that I liked, see:

"Turning Point: Fall of Liberty" and "Legendary"- Spark Unlimited' infamous shooters actually gave me a lot of fun times. They are by no means ambitious, but their unique settings kept me going enough to enjoy the short romp through their campaigns.

"Alone in the Dark: Inferno"- Now this one is a game that many will have played... and still haven't played. The game upon release was a mess. I know, because I bought it for the PC. But later, when the game was long dead, they released the PS3 version, with the added "Inferno" title, which was a better, more polished version of the game, as it should have been originally released. And I enjoyed it thoroughly.

"Naughty Bear"- It's a "Friday the 13th" simulator with teddy bears. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Amy"- This game got crucified upon release, and I still think undeservedly so. If I had payed full price for a AAA release, yeah, I'd have been underwhelmed, but for a 10? downloadable title, I could do a hell of a lot worse!

How is this game hated? Everyone I know who played it, loves it, myself included. I have literaly never heard anyone saying they hate this game.

Bulletstorm :/ I love it but I can see why so many people didn't, the main meat of the game was really chasing the top scores on the Echoes as that was really the only game mode that required you to get to grips with the kill system. I strangely treated each Echo as a puzzle which is far more apt than just a straight shooter and as such I got huge amounts of playtime out of it by analysing each stage and trying to slot all the skillshots together in a lovely display of violence and mayhem.

This. Most fun I've had with a shooter in a long time. Damn all you people who didn't play it and thus denied us a sequel! Damn you all to Hell!

dragon age 2 is the obvious one, and id definitely cite lord of the rings- conquest as an example. so it doesn't really tell the lord of the rings story at all well, and the ai is as dumb as a bent nail, but i just love how the 4 different classes play completely differently, and just how many enemies the game squeezes onto battlefields at once for you to battle through. it's a fine follow-up to the star wars battlefront games and yet only got something like 56 on metacritic, it gets an easy 8 from me.

Saints Row 1. It seems to be despised for being too close to GTA in space-time, but I've always enjoyed its cleverness and charm. I've only ever seen animosity for SR1 in online discussions, though. In person people are generally just apathetic in a "I-heard-it-was-pretty-good-but-never-got-around-to-playing-it" sort of way.

Far Cry 2.

A lot of people say the game has no point.

I think that kind of *IS* the point, seeing as it's about nihilism.

Could it have done with a few less "checkpoints" you have to drive through? Yeah. Was it still fun? Heck yeah.

I'm a fan of Alpha Protocol, I thought it was a really good game. Though the hacking minigames and the cover system were horrendous. I liked Red Faction Guerilla as well, though I don't think people hated that one. I think the general consensus was "meh".

erh splinter cell conviction, in small doses running around like a panther armed with a gun is about as fun as ...well running around like an armed panther. Yes it lost alot of the charm of the earlier games but still, great game.

Silent Hill 4 the room, everyone kept bitching about in Silent Hill threads. I really liked it, clunky controls and a little to much backtracking but the best storyline since SH 2

as other people have mentioned, prototype even though very flawed was a very fun game.

there was also a bunch of very loved games I totally disliked.
Infamous was boring as hell to me
Skyrim is pretty freaking boring to me right now
and New Vegas is also boring the crap out of me even though I enjoyed FO3 and it's expansions for a long time

I quite liked Dragon Age 2 as well. Sometimes even more than Origins. Also Fable (2 on) seems to be getting a bad rap here and there, but I enjoyed them all as well.

I enjoyed Alpha Protocol. Also Cel Damage got horrid reviews and I remember my friends and I had loads of fun wit that game.

Well, I'll join in on the Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 anti-anti bandwagon. The ending of Mass Effect 3 wasn't nearly enough to sink the entire game, and Dragon Age 2 did some pretty great stuff with the main character and the companions, even if I didn't like most of them.

Other than that, I'd say maybe Mirror's Edge? How much hate is that one getting right now? I was pretty fond of the first person parkour.

And I'm going to have to give a big shout-out to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I don't know what the general opinion on it is, but everyone I know who's played it either thought it was mediocre or terrible. I just...I just love super heroes so much, I can't not love this game.

Gears of War. I can see why people hate on it for making the whole "third-person, take cover, space marine" thing, but I like it. It tries, espically in the expanded verse and the third game, to have themes and messages. And the soundtrack and set-pecies? Awesome. If action games were movies, then Gears would be Tron Legacy: flawed, but still good, and still trying to set up and ask something big.
