Hey guys,

I'm making a new YouTube series of games you should play before you die (You can find a link to my channel on my profile, either that or it's Triforcehunter161, please check it out!) and I would like some suggestions from you guys. I have a list of about 30 or so games so far, I'm not going to list them here because for one it would be too long and second I would like to see what you guys think of the top of your heads.

However I have done 2 videos in the series so far; Super Mario Bros 3 and Team Fortress 2. You may not agree with those, but I believe they are worth playing. So what games do you guys think I should have on there?

Thanks in advance guys! :)

Well Dota would be something to put on there since that pretty much ushered in a whole new genre. You can also do some of the other genre defining games.

For quirkiness I have to put forward any of the Katamari games.
If you are looking for an RPG I have to put Final Fantasy VI since it has the best villain of any game I have ever played.
If you are looking for something different I will say Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town since it's a nice laid-back game.

Master of Magic and X-Com, if you want to get all DosBox with it.
I second Katamari Damacy. The series is a bit played out now, but if someone has never played any of them, the sheer joy of discovering it is magic.
Bushido Blade. Greatest fighting game ever.
And while it may not be everyone's bag, I think everyone should put at least a few hours into Dark Souls. It puts things into perspective. I haven't gotten mad at a game since.

Bushido Blade 1 and 2 need a current gen sequel so bad.

You could separate your list into categories, each one representing a genre. Then, within each category you can list the 3 most influential games from that genre.

Here are a few suggestions:

First Person Shooter
+ Wolfenstein - Effectively invented the genre.
+ Doom - Popularized the genre and standardized the format.
+ Half-Life - Redefined the genre, leading to the current model of game design we see today.

Role-Playing Game
+ Zork - Essentially one of the first and most well known RPGs. (comparatively speaking)
+ Final Fantasy - A prime example of Eastern RPG design.
+ Planescape (or any D&D themed game from that era) - A prime example of Western RPG design.

Platformer
+ Super Mario Bros. - The game that started it all. (so to speak)
+ Metroid / Castlevania - Games that redefined the genre.
+ Super Meat Boy - A contemporary take on the classic model.

Action RPG
+ Diablo - Set many standards that few topped for years.
+ The Elder Scrolls - Put a first-person/action twist on the classic RPG model.
+ Dota - A contemporary take on the genre as well as a prime example of the multi-player variant of that style of gameplay.

Or, you could just list your favorite games. That seems to be the popular thing now-a-days.
