In Guild Wars: Nightfall, the player eventually has to battle the fallen God of Secrets, Abaddon. The player can also battle the former God of Death, Dhuum, and reseal him in slumber within the Underworld, though he is not actually killed.
I suppose the final boss in Okami can be considered a god or rather at least on the same power level. What about Smite isnt that what the game has basically built its premise even if some of their `gods` are sorta stretching the term.

You kill the equivalent, or nearly-so, of a several gods in 'Ninja Gaiden II' (360) with the four Greater Fiends and the Arch-Fiend. And in 'Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem' you play a key part in killing three different gods/Ancient Ones/Great Ones over the course of three playthroughs.
Then there is the Devil May Cry series where most of the bosses are pretty close to being gods, if not outright gods.

Zophar in Lunar 2. He was the God of Destruction before Beerus was, and inthe his final battle, he's also taken the power of the God of Creation for himself too. Unlike most JRPGs, the difficulty of the battle definitely reflects this.

I want to preface all of this with a disclaimer that FF13's whole story is a mess, and trying to make sense of it is like trying to translate something from a language you barely understand. Also it's been a year or two since I played it, I may be hazy on some details.Willinium said:

As for the whole plot of 13-2 with Caius, Noel and Yeul, I'm still at a bit of a loss. My best guess is...Caius is linked to Etro via the Heart of Chaos. I assume that under the "usual" setup Yeul has a Guardian of some sort and this mantle is passed down to new people as the previous Guardian becomes unable to fulfill his duties for whatever reason. Caius decides that this system is bogus and tries to free Yeul from the cycle, and plans to...kill Etro? I forget the exact details of his plan, but it seems like his Etro-killing strategy was already guaranteed to succeed, and all of his actions in 13-2 were about trying to save his own life - he was prepared to die for Yeul but it wasn't strictly required if he achieved his goals.
That is basically what Lightning, Serah and Noel achieved...they forced Caius into plan B which was dying and taking Etro with him. I don't remember if Noel actually "became the new Caius" as you said, I assumed that with the death of Etro that the Heart of Chaos was no longer a thing, at least in the form it had been.
And I would like to refer readers once again to my disclaimer, there is a moderate to high chance some or all of this is completely wrong.
