I was simply just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on games where your actions truly matter in the grand scheme of it all.

Games like Tibia, or EVE where one person can be the leader of something great. I'm currently installing EVE and hoping to get into it as it seems like it fits that criteria pretty well if you sink enough time into it.

As a gamer, I've lost touch with games like WoW, League, or Smite that simply you go in, win a game, or run a dungeon, but you aren't really rewarded for your time spent with anything more than in-game credits or bragging righs. I want something where, if I go out and spend days, weeks, months, years on the game, that I can have true friends, true enemies, and make a difference in how the game is shaped.

Is there anything out there like that other than EVE?

P.S. : I know going "pro" in a game will bring you outside glory, but it's not the same feeling that I'm looking for.

Some MMOs, none of which succeeded, wanted to give players more control over the gameworld, like Shadowbane. World of Warcraft destroyed innovation within the MMO genre - who knows what we might be playing today if it had never happened - certainly not the seemingly infinite number of MMOs heavily inspired by it.

Avalon, probably the greatest MUD in history, gives players a lot of control. EVE Online also, as you mentioned. Second Life is a lot like EVE Online in it's degree of player control. None of these games is inspired by WoW, which has a corporate mindset where all meaningful control is in the hands of the developer.

To be fair, the design "mistake" goes back to the primary inspiration for WoW, Everquest, with it's slogan of "You're in Our World Now". How conceited can you get. The design philosophy should be to create a world FOR the players - "You're in Your World Now".
