Do you know of any games that have the best destructible enviorments in them? What are your favorites?

Red Faction: Guerrilla was pretty cool what with being able to being a building down with a hammer.

Stranglehold had some pretty sweet destructible environments. My favourite was the Casino level.

The original Red Faction had the best I experienced. It's the only game I can think of where you can organically blast a cave out of the map, even in multiplayer.

Some of the older Battlefield games had some pretty good destructible environments, such as Bad Company 1 and 2.

I'm pretty sure I spent an entire section of the game burrowing into the ground with charges and a rocket launcher just because I could. Good times.

Silent Storm probably has the best destruction system of any game I played. Red Faction: Guerrilla is very good as well.

Mercenaries 1 is definitely my go-to pick, every building can be destroyed, often in glorious fashion through air-strikes or just shooting them enough times with a RPG. Oddly enough even the thinnest of trees are invulnerable to damage, which feels a little awkward when you drive a tank at full speed into one.

Just Cause 2 doesn't have many destructible buildings, however it probably has the most amount of "stuff you can destroy" in a open world sandbox game. You are actively encouraged to blow up radio towers, water towers, statues, fuel tanks, and anything else you see with the enemy faction logo on it.

Someone already mentioned Stranglehold, and they're correct: the environments in that game were crazy destructible.

I'd also nominate Max Payne 3, the level of destructiveness is especially cool considering all the shells and bodies remain after a firefight, really gives you the sense that you have just fucked shit up.

Seconded, the amount of destruction you can do to the environment is quite enjoyable, and the biggest joy of the game. Definitely recommend it.

I always liked how you could alter the topography of the maps in Shattered Steel. Most of those maps were pretty empty, I guess, but if you brought enough ammo you could carve mountains down into molehills. And the nukes made craters big enough to change how the map worked.
