Condemned strike me as a good example. It just felt... Satisfying, impacting. Most other mêlée affairs is just pressing a button until the nasties give up and fall over. Furthermore, there's teeth. Many teeth... Condemned; the game that lets you play as the tooth fairy.

I also like how the guns worked in that game. They were lethal, and really felt like a firearm should; a deadly, efficient weapon. But they were also rare, and ammunition even rarer, so you usually ended up smacking people over the ears with a plank either way.

The only downside was the upgraded taser. After a while, you didn't even have to really bother. Tase them in the bum, and maybe give a little kick to send 'em over if that didn't do the trick.

Dark Messiah was fun and visceral.
Also BOOT.
It still wasn't as fun as the games 'fuck you' button...or, as it is called in game:
Demon form

DMC4, and if you PC is good enough to emulate God Hand do that too (after you buy it so it's legal).

DMC3 is also available on PC but is a terrible port and from what I've heard it runs better if you emulate that as well.
I played DMC4 on ps3 Im not looking for anything too flashy and unrealistic
o.0

that narrows the options to pretty much '0'. though I'm inclined to say Dark Souls when it comes out for PC anyway

Not flashy and unrealistic? Oh so Bayonetta is a no then? :(

Freakin' love that game. Fuck Angels man, being all divine everywhere. Just who the hell do they think they are?!

There's still that weird gap for me in spectacle fighter type games in that the main character (Dante, Bayonetta) are just being really damn badass and untouchable in cutscenes then it's just:

"ARGH 3 of these Claw Bitches at once? And cars all over the place?! Fucking noooooooooooo!"

I still love it when they send the crappy ordinary enemies at you at time to time, even on Hard. Trolololol infinite Witch Time activate!

You could also take a look at Redguard, which had some nice swashbuckling.
yeah but Redguard is way too much of a pain in the ass to get running, let alone running smoothly and with sound+cutscenes working properly =P
Yeah, that's true. I haven't managed to run it since I got this PC. Quite a shame, it really has it charm.

ZENO CLASH! Fantastic looking first-person brawler that is really satisfying and easy to learn. It's around $15.
Honestly, the atmosphere of that game put me off. It just felt wrong. I have no issue with creepy games, but something about Zeno Clash rubbed me the wrong way.

Dark messiah of might and magic
Mount and blade : warband
Severence blade of darknesss

Can anyone reccemend anything?
They are awesome ^^

OT:

Hmmm, surprised so many people know about Oni, I thought it was quite an obscure game nowadays.

But yeah, Oni has epic combat.

There is also Chivalry, medieval warfare which looks EXTREMELY promising in terms of combat. In fact this looks like it will trump all of it's competitors when it's released.

Im really looking forward to that and war of the roses , I'd like to thank everyone who participated in this thread im going to try your reccemendations , ill definitely get dark souls on pc when it comes out the ps3 version had frame-rate issues that annoyed me alot , I just wish more games nowadays focus on animations and satisfying combat instead of graphics, basically im saying I'd like to see more games like riddick , condemned and dark messiah.

So something fairly realistic with good melee combat?

Other than the ones mentioned, Dead Island is pretty good, very visceral. Definitely one you want to use a sword in, nothing like slicing up zombies with a katana haha, it's kinda like Dead Rising, only more realistic (as realistic as zombies can get I suppose).

Others have said it in this thread but I will repeat it.

Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City have the best melee combat in any game I've ever played, your hits feel powerful and you truly feel like you are a force to be reckoned with. That being said though, you will need to play it smart if you want to do well.

Honestly i feel like a lot of the reviewers who say the combat is too simplistic haven't touched the hard mode. That's where the kiddie boots come off, you need to time your counters perfectly, use stuns effectively, and actually vary up your tactics or you will die. A lot. Nevertheless it never feels unfair, there is no situation that cannot be solved through skill

Has nobody been playing Dragon's Dogma? Hot damn that's got a fantastic combat system, in terms of melee, archery and magic.

Seriously, has nobody been playing this??

Wow this thread is consistent.
What you should totally play seems to be the Arkham Asylum/City, Dark Souls, Condemned, and both Riddick games.

Judging from your title list, I don't know if WH40K: Space Marine will appeal to you in terms of story, but my god does it have the most viscerally entertaining and fluid melee combat I've ever played. As an added bonus, switching from melee to ranged is equally fluid and works beautifully.

I'd highly recommend Space Marine for melee combat enthusiasts.

Well there are those f2p action RPG MMOs online. They're usually repetitive and grindy but if you're looking for deep skillful combat these games have it.

There's

Vindictus: The game itself is pretty boring IMO. It's not really designed for PVP and there's not much to do. The graphics are amazing though and this game has some of the best boss fights ever, which is good considering later on most dungeons are pretty much a single boss. I quit it because it got really really grindy.

Dragons Nest : It's a very cartoony anime-ish game (people with huge heads and all that), so if you don't like that style you'll probably be turned off. Combat is very over-the-top too but it's very fun. The classes are very fun and diverse (4 classes each with 2 subclasses and each subclass with 2 sub-subclasses), so you can start out as a normal warrior, decide you want a sword, and eventually learn how to fight by firing laser beams our of your blade, or become a mage and specialize in killing things with black holes. It's been a while since i played but i remember it having a gold seller problem, but i don't know if that's still a big problem.

Also, this game has some great writing for an MMO. It's the only game where i actually wanted to read all the quest dialogue.

Dungeon fighter: This game is one of those old 2d beat-em-up games but with MMO features. You know, like final fight and such. This game is pretty over-the-top too but the characters are generally kept in proportion and if you're tired of fighting goblins and such then this game is for you. This game has a lot of very unique things. The enemies start with the standard fantasy fare (goblins) but then slowly starts getting more crazy. The classes also get pretty unique too, like the swordsman that fights by summoning ghosts, or the priest that fights with boxing (and not that kung-fu monk stuff, i mean actual dodge-and-weave boxing).

And if you don't like to grind and level up and stuff this game lets you go pure PVP starting at lvl 18 after you pick your subclass so if you just want to PVP you can.

Continent of the Ninth: This game is not out yet, Open beta starts sometime in June. Ive been playing this game every since the first closed beta and i really love it. It's a lot more tame than the other games I've mentioned but it's still a bit over the top. I like the combat in this one more than the others. The combat feels like it has a lot of weight and there's a lot of skill involved (I've seen people get beaten up by others 20 lvls behind them). This game is also filled with classes. Right now there are 3 classes with 3 subclasses each out but there's more coming. When it catches up to korea it will have 4 classes with 5 subclasses each, which is a massive amount.

So if you're ever bored try one of them out. They're all free.

It also contains the ultimate representation of what a modern "vampire" of sorts could be.

Batman: Arkham Asylum/City
Saving the Caped Crusader's videogame career.

Devil May Cry
Fluid action-brawler.

Banjo-Kazooie
Seriously.
