From the title of the thread alone I'm trying to figure out how to name the type of game I'm looking for. I'm talking about a game like Overlord, or Darksiders, where you start out lowly and you have a chance at taking multiple paths in your adventure. You find something in your path, you return to where you started and take the next branch. I hope you know of what game I'm talking about. Prince of Persia from 2008 is another fine example of this, but I really didn't like that game due to the tedious climbing and orb collecting. God of War I & II also had that aspect (Rings of Pandora and Temple of Lahkesis). So, do you know what other games are a little like this? My friend told me all Zelda games are like this, but sadly I don't own a Wii, only a PS3 and PC.

I heard Metroid games have that to.
You're talking about back-tracking right?
Not exactly back-tracking, but indirect-back-tacking perhaps?

Yes, just like that. I don't mind back-tracking, as long as it doesn't get tedious.

All I can think of is Psychonauts, though I can't actually remember if you had to do the missions in order or if you could choose which ones you would do.

Cave Story. And it's free.

Also, a common term for that type of game is "Metroidvania".
