In the wake of this #gamergate, I've come to the conclusion that games have really taken a backseat to life these days. I don't even have time to play, let alone keep up with the hubbub of gossip and criticism floating around.

It seems like after work, school, family, friends, exercise, and chores take a bite out of my day... there's barely even enough time to sleep.

I've meagerly tried to integrate game theory into my routine where I could, but I just can't sit down and dive into a 40+ hr game anymore.

So I appeal to you, professionals of the Escapist community. How do you fit the time in? When do you find that chance to "escape" from obligations and slay a dragon or two?

welcome to getting older.
I was in the same situation as you and if i had an hour to myself to play a game it was a rare thing. Cant say i ever did manage to work it out but one "upside" of not being able to work anymore is more time for gaming i guess

Just started working, in a way its cool that even thought I never cared much about those kind of issues now I care even less and dont even bother reading the topics (ignorance is a bliss, am I right?), but yeah, I only give myself 2 hours to play with a friend online and then 1 hour to read some game news shit online.

I am on a day off now so that is why I am taking my time to write this.

I sometimes get a few hours in during the week after work but most of the time my game time is confined to weekends where I have nothing else on.

I don't like sitting down for an hour or two when I'm playing games, I prefer to settle in for a bit of a marathon session so normally when I get a free Saturday or Sunday, I'll settle in and play games for most of the day.

My life is kind of up in a heap at the moment though so I haven't had the chance to do that for a while.

Just a part of getting older really. It's funny how, as teenagers/college/uni students we had tonnes of free time and no money, and now I have the money, but rarely any time to play!

I fit in a bit of 3DS on my lunch break and commute, and I have a group of friends with families that are in a similar boat - we get together once a month to play COD, Mario Kart and other stuff. I've had a bit more time to catch up on my backlog since my missus got Sims 4 though.

I'm stockpiling a retirement cache of all the games I really want to spend a lot of time with, or play through again. I just hope the consoles still work!

Haha. I can completely relate. It seems like when I was a kid, I'd play the same game for hundreds of hours. Now I pick 'em up, fully intending to play them more than an hour or two, but that just doesn't fly.

Is this how current retirees felt about golf when they were working?

I work in the occasional round of Smash with my buddies, or a basement crawl with Isaac. But in truth, the world got a lot bigger for me, and I often feel a better sense of engagement/satisfaction from different activities. Weird right?

My Vita has gotten its usage while traveling to and from work, it's perhaps evident how much I use it when I never platinumed any PS3 games, but I have the platinum trophy in four Vita games
