So i've been wondering . How many games have Satan in them? Now off the top of my head i can think of four . Dante's inferno , Catlevania Lord of shadows , persona 3 and 4 ( although you don't FIGHT Satan , but you can fuse and use him) . I'm not too sure about the other SMT games since i didn't fuse him and i don't use walkthroughs because i'm a boss like that . Hades and whatever gods of the underworld don't count , it has the be Satan.

I ask this because i find that Satan doesn't get enough love in videogames and i would like to see how many games he is actually in .

Also subquestion : what do you think of Satan in videogames .

well nunu is practically Satan, so I am going to count league of legends.

honestly cant think of many more games with him, does doom count? all the big demons look like Satan, in chapter 3 I think it was.

doom bringer also looks like him, but i have never played him so i have honestly so idea is he is satanic.

and what do I think about Satan? seems like a cool dude, has some pretty good taste in music at least, and he seems to do pranks on Christians constantly as well which is always good.

"El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron" has Satan in it, if I remember correctly. And ironically enough, also voiced by Jason Isaacs, who voiced Satan in "Castlevania: Lord of Shadows".

As for what I think of him in video games, well... I like it. He's a natural villain, and an interesting one at that. Satan's crime was one of independence, and he's actually quite a complex character.

Most of the Doom games, no?
El Shaddai also has "Lucifel" as he's known.

I just started playing Darksiders recently and while I haven't gotten very far I imagine that Satan or his overly designed comic book looking counterpart will show up in either the first or the second one.
Oooh, The Binding of Isaac! Satan plays a big role in that.

This is harder than I thought it would be. I kind of expected Satan to show up a lot more.

Edit: Didn't notice the Doom mention and get ninja'd on El Shaddai. Joy.

How the hell did you leave DIABLO off your list?

What do I think of him? He's a bad guy. Bad guys get shot.

Unless he's punishing bad guys. Then..he's a good guy? WHAT?

I don't know about any games containing Satan, but as for your sub-question. My thoughts are quite comical. A Satanic game makes me think of the protagonist being a corpse-painted black metal elite from Norwegian circles and the objectives being how many churches you can burn (while praising Satan, naturally) in the allotted time limit. Something to that effect. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some free online game that is similar to this, actually.

He's a major character and boss of SMT: Nocturne, not so sure about SMT 1/2. AS for him in games in general as long as he used in an interesting way I'm cool with him

Well, other than the games, like Doom and Diablo, that have already been mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is the Flash game Motherload, where you work for the "cleverly" named Mr. Natas, who turns out to be... well, Satan. In case anyone is interested, I'll leave the link for the game, I'll leave it right here. It's not an amazing game or anything, but it's pretty fun and a good timewaster.

As for my opinion, as long as he's done well, I don't have a problem with him being a boss or featured some other way in a game.

To clarify on other SMT games, Satan generally appears with a similar role to his Persona 3/4 one. I think most Devil Summoner games and Strange Journey were like that, with Satan as a high level, but inconsequential demon. Persona 1, 2IS, 2IP, SMT: If... and P3/4 did. In Shin Megami Tensei I Satan is a high level boss on the Chaos route, and in II Satan is Zayin, a member of the Center's Temple Knights who oppress the citizens of Valhalla. He goes a bit nutters on YHWH's orders, and attempts to use the orbital metropolis Eden to fire a laser at Tokyo Millennium, wiping out the remainder of the human population. On the Neutral and Chaos routes, he realizes the error in his ways but still challenges you. On the Law route, he helps you defeat YHWH but fades to dust after his creator is defeated. In SMT III (Nocturne) you don't meet or encounter Satan, but he appears as a Magatama, the means through which you gain skills. IIRC he teaches you Megidoloan, Dekaja and Jive Talk... But I'm only really sure about that last one. Lastly, in Digital Devil Saga 2 he's the optional super boss. However, the in-universe excuse is that he's only "solar data" (let's... let's just save a few hours and not get into that one.)

And then there's Lucifer and Helel, but let's just leave it at Satan for now.

I can also think of Satan appearing in Dragon Quest V (his Japanese name, apparently actually being Satan. In North America we got him as Mildrath.) And a very obvious stand-in for him appears in Dragon Quest VII universally known as Orgodemir or Orgo-Demilla. In IX, Corvus' story is also rather similar to that of Satan's on and off role as the rebel or usurper to God's true ruler status.

He's a pretty notable character in The Binding of Isaac as he appears in two forms, first as one possible final boss and second as a character you can actually trade with to get stronger. Of course, when trading with the devil you don't use money, you use your actual life in the form of heart containers. An interesting twist to this is you can be offered items from an Angel as well but the Angel won't ever appear for you if you've made even a single deal with the devil.

Anyway, personally I have no issue with Satan appearing in games. He can be a bit of a cop out big bad because he's generally obviously an enemy and doesn't need any real set-up, but other than that I'm cool with it.

Well, I can't quiet tell what sheets in most games are made out of. I guess they could be like satan or silk or... wait, that's capitalized...

D&D based games usually have him. Lots of games with some religious component are based on Catholicism and have a Satan stand-in. Lots of JRPGs especially have some guy who's basically Satan but not.

You face off against him in Guitar Hero 3. And if you lose...he does a tremendous victory solo just to add to torment.

Ralph: "Thanks, Satan."
Satan: "It's pronounced 'sah-TAHN'."

I find it a bit odd that he's not in the Doom series, considering how authentically (to a point) they tried to get the demonic aspects integrated into those games. (At least... to my certain knowledge, he's not in the franchise.)

In Persona 3 alone, you have Lucifer and Beelzebub. Not Satan himself, but close enough. Incidentally, in the vanilla version of the game, Lucifer + Beelzebub has the most game-breaking combination skill in the game. It deals 9999 damage in a game where 999 HP is the norm, for the cost of all your MP (All as in MAX, not just your current one). While Lucifer himself has "Victory Cry", a passive that regenerates ALL your HP and MP after battle.

What the devil are you saying?

Back in the day, I often came quite close to buying that game, but decided against it because it was called "TRUE crime" - I figured it was a boring, straightforward cop sim!

SERIOUSLY? A game called "True Crime" has the Devil in it? I'll be needing to check this out!

Oh yeah, on topic: Can't recall having seen the fellow himself in any game I've played. I wouldn't really mind it, though I do think he would work better as a side character (appearing in cutscenes, providing exposition, maybe offer a quest etc) than as a regular boss. An ancient, iconic deity deserves a more standout role in most stories than just one more obstacle for the hero(es) to pound into the ground and move on.

It should, at the very least, be kept in mind that there are people alive to this day who are genuinely scared of him! He will almost certainly be the only character in the game of whom such a claim can be made.

Maybe he could be one of those optional, extra-tough bosses where half the challenge is just getting to the point where you can fight him.

Weeell I think Painkiller counts, since he is the final boss of that game. Though I don't exactly remember him being directly referred to as Satan, only Lucifer.

Well you fight Chernabog in the Kingdom Hearts series a couple of times... and according to Walt Disney he's supposed to be "Satan himself", so...

Then there's this guy from Silent Hill: Origins. No official name given, I think, but he looks... suggestive...
