What awesome games (or terrible games) have you played that leave a bad taste in your mouth after th firs hour or so. For me its Mass Effect 1. The first mission is full of melodramatic acting and talking. Add to this that once you first nter the Citadel you get lost immediately (admit it) and finding your way to the council to do more talking is quite boring. The rest of the game is awesome though. Glad I stuck with it.

The Witcher.

I really want to like it. I try to like it. But I can't get any entertainment out of the beginning of the game. I just get bored...there's no draw. If it was a first date, it'd be asleep in the car, drooling on itself, while I drive it to where we're going.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I disagree with those comments about Mass Effect. Quite a bit, really. I love all of the game.

OT: Hrm, a bad first impression... KOTOR. Hammy voice acting, ridiculously black and white conversation options, boring combat, and a confusing city to navigate through turned me off the game. Then it crashed. It's fair to say it was a bad enough first impression to turn me away from the game completely, with the thoughts "Right, back to Mass Effect!" :p

fallout new vegas

i love the game but in the first hour i encountered a few bugs that just drove me crazy. after that first hour however i rarely encountered any other bugs other than rex running off in one direction only to bring a group of raiders back with him

Don't get me wrong, the rest of the game is shit too.
Ah, and a good laugh to end the day. Nice job.

Personally I'll go with Mass Effect, KOTOR, and KOTOR 2. Basically any RPG with an overly long intro, and any Star Wars game where you a promised force powers and lightsabers but get neither.

Sonic 4

A game about speed shouldn't start with the main character taking at least 5 seconds to get to only a quarter of his maximum speed. Good thing it was just the trial.

Tell me, out of the first mission and the tour through the citadel, which part was the most "exciting"? That whole portion before you become a spector is dull as hell. You can't do anything and getting lost in the citadel on your first time their pissed me off. ([small]Along with the fact that I didn't know you could turn off that annoying grainy effect[/small])

Psychonauts... Amazing game, but seriously, trying to get someone into it is a challenge. Ten-minute cutscene at the start, followed by jumping to a cutscene whenever you approach a camper before doing the basic braining level... Anyone even slightly impatient will just give up.

Well, some of us enjoy the story and atmosphere as well, you know. I liked Mass Effect from the beginning, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and story but I'm saying that the first hour of the game did not brng that awesomeness out. It was so dull jogging through the citade not knowing exactly where to go.

The battle on Eden Prime, as well as the battles with the thugs in the Citadel, were perhaps mildly exciting, but more than that, I found everything to do with the backstory incredibly interesting. I hungered for new Codex entries and ran around collecting as much information on Bioware's magnificent universe as I could - it really strikes a chord with me, learning the fully fleshed out fictional history of a galaxy. I was also revelling in the novelty of being able to choose dialogue options, something I'd never done before - Mass Effect was my first RPG.

In the end, what you thought of the opening depends on what kind of person you are. Also I never had any problem whatsoever with navigating the Citadel - seriously, I didn't know it was possible to get lost with the map and the Fast Transit system. How did you manage that?

I found the intro ridiculously condescending. Not bad after that though.

Fallout 3. My first impressions of it were so bad, I decided not to play it ever again and toss it off as overrated garbage, same with Mass Effect.

Go me.

GTA IV, first driving and I crash into the first wall I see, so I thought "FUCK THAT!" and played something else.

Do you know this from experience or are you just spouting hearsay?

OT: The intro to investigation missions in the first Assassins creed bugged me because I couldn't murder anyone.

Dragon Age Origins got me like that. The overly generic fantasy tropes and the lack or any real ability or skill development. Add to the the lack of exploration, and it all left a bad taste in my mouth as a first impression. Maybe if I went back and tried it again I would like it, but my first time I made it about 14-15 hours and put it down.

I'd say Daikatana, as a lot of people would, but to be fair, it was pretty hilarious that the game was taking the whole first seen so seriously.
