I have a few, and they were huge disappointments.

The most recent one being HomeFront. I thought it was going to be an amazing, emotionally charged, character-driven game where I helped push an invading army out of my country (both in-game and in real life). What I actually got was a game with a very weak, barely strung together narrative, no emotional impact whatsoever, idiotic friendly AI and unfairly accurate enemy AI (about as bad as SOF: Payback) and a host of other problems. and that's not even going into the shitty graphics.

Aliens Vs Predator was another huge disappointment. I thought it was going to be like a console version of the PC game AvPII, with mood setting lighting an arsenal of weapons for humans and Predators and a decent length campaign for each race. It turned out to be a bland, mediocre shooter, at best, with a very weak cliche filled short story and unimpressive combat.

And the biggest disappointment was Vampire Rain, and I think mentioning the title alone is explanation.

I am going to speak on my friends behalf (he preordered the game and eagerly awaited its release) and concur that it was, in fact, a disappointment.

I played it expecting it to be like Fable 2 which I think it was compared to in the reviews so wasn't really disappointed at all really. Fable games even the first one to me are funny easy diversions... (I see nothing wrong with some games doing that...)
It is a funny, easy diversion (with excellent voice acters) but fable 1 to fable 3 is a good example of a huge jump from something so fun and exciting it drew me to the screen with all its glory and splendor to a game that has become so "for everybody" that its forgotten what it was or who it was for.

Completely different kind of games. FFXIII is going through linear corridors with what I consider a fun pretty fast battle system, and with tons of FMVs. FFXII has some pretty large areas, has towns unlike XIII, battles are fought on the same screens as the dungeons, light on the story compared to the other recent FF games, and fights are a combination of WRPGs and the active turn based system. Sad to say maybe but I enjoyed FFXIII more overall and actually beat it unlike FFXII.
... so you agree that Hope is a pisshead?
I barely remember who hope is, lol? He was whiny kid with the boomerang right? Well, I have a pretty huge tolerance for Japanese RPG cliche characters from watching a lot of anime and playing quite a few RPGs. So, he didn't bother me that much. I don't think the game was great or maybe not even good. But I had enough fun playing it to beat it unlike many other gamers. I think the thing it was lacking most compared to other Final Fantasys were towns and cities to visit....

Dead Space 2

My teacher lent me Dead Space 1 (Great teacher ^_^) and I finished it in a weekend. Then I rented Dead Space 2 hoping to be more scared then before and beat it in one sitting. Scariest part for me in the whole game was the ***SPOILER ALERT***eye poke machine***SPOILER ALERT***

Fable's story was obviously only designed for one game. The story for the first game was innovative, well-designed, and well-executed no matter what path you chose. After the first game, both the Story and the Gameplay fell apart.

...Guns... Whose bright idea was it to put guns in Fable anyway? -_-

Arrgghhh, anybody who's played an MMORPG in the last 5 years knows this feeling all too well. Just about every MMO released in the last few years has been buggy unfinished mess after buggy unfinished mess...

Tabula Rasa, Aion, Warhammer Online, Vanguard, Star Trek Online, All Points Bulletin, Age of Conan, Final Fantasy XIV...etc...

I know how you feel.

Even if it's old, find the RPG The Legend of Dragoon, I GUARANTEE you will love it. At least if you can stand PS1 graphics.

Couldn't stand the combat system when I played it years ago to be honest I think. It was too hard and boring the timing from what I remember. Don't remember anything else about this game.

Every Call of Duty after 4, especially Modern Warfare 2. Seriously set a horrid template with what game designers can release (short campaign, glitchy online, overpriced map packs), and it's a shame how it sold so well as well.

Sonic 4. Horrible soundtrack, horrible physics, horrible aesthetics, horrible special stages. Sonic Fan Remix would have been better, but alas, the pricks at SEGA got butthurt because 2 fans of theirs make games better than them. Guess it didn't occur to them to perhaps hire these 2? Get them to help with Sonic 4 Episode II? Nah they'll just be total douchebags instead. *bitter*

Every Final Fantasy after IX (yes I didn't like Final Fantasy X, so what?). As far as I'm concerned, voice acting ruined Final Fantasy.

Mirror's Edge. I was expecting something AAA. It was rather meh.

Too Human.

*shakes head*

How could it have gone so horribly wrong? It was supposed to be a sci-fi RPG about norse mythology, with a combat system inspired by the Devil May Cry games. How do you fuck that up?!

APB, definitely. I pre-ordered it thinking it would be a fun take on a dynamic that works in real life (cops and robbers - ever play it as a kid?). Of course, we all found out that they hadn't worked on the gameplay until the last 12 months of development...

I may have been the only person NOT disappointed with that. Probably because I read the reviews and waited a long time before playing it. I mean, if I played it first without reading reviews and just from the hype about the game I would probably be pissed as hell...

Formula One 2010. Half the things they say on the back of the box arent in the game or dont actually influence your game very much at all. And most of those things were what sold the game to me.

I had never seen a more sloppy game released - I am very glad that I wasnt able to pre-order the game. Stupid bugs like when a bit of rubber from a tyre puncture hits your car its session over or being held in the pits for 10 seconds when you shouldnt be (no danger of unsafe release) and then pulling out of your pit to get cut off by another AI driver.

Or even when you somehow fluke a points scoring finish with Lotus and in the next race even if you exceed the team's expectations in quali and race the team will still be disappointed because 'the bosses expected another points finish'.

Or what I am experiencing right now. I decided a few days ago to give F1 2010 another whirl after a 2 month holiday from it and now I get a 'F1 2010 Executable has stopped working' and the thing causing the crash is supposedly ntdll.dll (the dll responsible for NT kernel operations. CodeAmateurs support take so loooooong to get back to you....

In short most of the crap doesnt make sense.

I've got a couple more I'd like to add. MAG and The Bourne Conspiracy. MAG because while it had great promise it also relied on the fact that everyone in your battalion wasn't a monkey and actually wanted to work as a team to obtain the objective. And the Bourne game well....that's just screwing with me when you do games like that.

Spore.

Waited over 5 agonizing years after seeing an early preview in a magazine, and when it was realeased I basically gave up on buying games before "demoing" them.
