I really like the "tales of..." and the .hack// series but i can't really explain why. When someone asked me why i likes those games the most i could come up with was that i liked the story(ies) but if i wanted a good story i could go read a book, and all the gameplay aspects are things i've seen done better else where, with the exception of the "tales of..." titles.

this has lead me to wondering, does anyone else have a game that you like, but can't describe why?

Phoenix Wright games. On paper they sound incredibly dull and absurd, but there's something wonderfully charming about them that always keeps me playing.

My whole DS collection is full of mis mashed games that I can't explain why i love I just do (although I'm add-ish with games so it might be that, one moment I could hate Contra 4 the next I want to play it non stop).

Me too, actually. I just started playing them a few days ago, and I'm having a blast.

Pokemon games, When I examine them I see how crap, stupid, dump and boring it is, but I always buy the new games, transfure the pokemon from my last game to the new game and rack up 200 or so hours on it.

The original Digimon World for Ps1. From the outsider's perspective it's incredibly slow-paced, tight-lipped on its main mechanic (and quick to punish failure, too) and poorly localised. Apparently, all this didn't stop my childhood self from clocking innumerable hours on the damn thing.

I liked the first Assassin's Creed for it's originality, for taking the phrase 'open world exploration' at it's word in a way no other game (that I have played) did before it, and for being just so effing pretty considering it was out in the very early days of the 360.

But I will be the last to deny that the gameplay is incredibly unpolished, many elements are tedious and overused, and I could name only one character in the game who I actually liked.
