I haven't heard much about Destroy All Humans, which was an AWESOME game!

Seriously, you played as an alien in the 1950's, zapping civvies left and right...

Pandemic, you died too soon :'(
Destroy All Humans 2 was awesome as well. Dropping meteors on hippies? Don't mind if I do!
And you know what?

The third one wasn't even that bad!

Launching disco freaks into the air with a rainbow bouncy ball? WHY THE **** NOT!?
I haven't played that one but from the sounds of it I need to remedy this :D

Path of the Furon was made by SandBlast and published by THQ, curse you EA...

I can't say the game is perfect, but it hits all the right marks a DAH game should!

Well it's true [http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/final-fantasy-xiii]. Like I said Metacritic doesn't mean much.
Did you notice the user score was 8.0 based on about 1500 votes... I don't think as many people hated it as you think. Of course the vocal internet haters may make it seem that way...
This happens a lot though doesn't it? You get a game that people seem to like at the time but then a few months down the line everyone says it sucks. Whenever I hear people talk about this game it's criticism.

I think I do agree with you, at least when it comes to FF13

Partially for me, I was just so damn excited another FF game was finally coming out, to the ps3 to boot! plus I heard about it needing multiple disks for the 360, so I thought "hah! so much glorious content and graphics! must be awesome!"

...

In the history of my gaming experience, I don't think there is a single other game out there that I wouldn't love linearity in, but FF13 decided to prove me wrong..good god, it was worse than doing a day of chores -_-

Heck, I even liked ffXII and ffX-2 which is saying something!

I'd give it a 6, the presentation of it all and the pacing was just so bad that it killed anything the game had going for it.

I've never actually played it truth be told as I'm not really a JRPG fan, but I rarely hear anything positive about it. One of the things I hear is what you said; that it's too linear and if I was a fan of the series it sounds like I'd be disappointed.

I can deal with linearity, heck I would say on a scale I would prefer linearity to open world, but dear lord, the pacing vs what they let on for the story + what you did in between each cut scene chunk...

just..the worst combinations. Most linear games have you enthralled in the story or thinking "damn, i really wanna go kick that guys ass! gotta destroy his baddies to prove how big of a piece of shit he is! fuck you for killing my party member!" but the motivation is definitely nowhere to be seen, as most cutscenes do next to nothing for plot reveals or pacing of story elements (kinda just reiterated what I said, but really, it's that bad...to me at least.)

I have to disagree with Okami. Honestly even Psychonauts is more of a sleeper hit than Okami and that's the definition of a cult classic (hell it's too popular for that classification too). God, I remember when the game first came out. It attracted weeaboos like flies to honey. Definitely not saying it's a bad game though (I got so sick of the oversaturation I just avoided anything to DO with that game so I still haven't played it).

Anyway, instead of making a huge ass list (lord knows I could), I'm just gonna mention my prolly biggest one and that's Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom.
An adorable game, kind of similar to Ico or The Last Guardian in that it's sort of an escort/partner-up-with-a-monster-thing kind of game, but no where near as... uh, heavy in atmosphere, I guess (I'm tired, shut up). Well I enjoyed it anyway. I can count on one hand the number of people I've talked to ONLINE who've played it, forget irl.

Yeah games that are really linear only work on something arcadey or cinematic. That's why it works better for something like CoD because it's really just a bunch of set pieces interspersed with a firefight or two.

Startopia: Is still one of my favorite games. Unfortunately, Muckyfoot went under not too long after the game came out, so i assume it just didn't sell very well. Real shame too, it was a great experience.

Freespace 2. Too many people go "Whatnow?" when I mention Freespace 2. MUST CHANGE THAT! So we can band together and force a Freespace 3!

Anything by Pandemic really, I loved Mercenaries 2. :(

Beyond Good and Evil, the sales weren't there for the game.

Mirror's Edge too, I adored that game and EA keeps teasing about a sequel.

Me and my brother were just playing some co-op Lan freespace 2. Gotta love that game. I've been waiting for freespace 3 for a long time.

Alpha Protocol & Nier. Nier didn't really get hated, but it deserved more sales. It also sucks that Alpha Protocol

To me that would be Phantasy Star Zero for the DS. Sure it got an average/ above averave scores but it was a great online game to play!

Sales mean nothing! But Sengoku Basara hasn't gotten enough attention. Capcom forgot to advertise it.
Actually in business sales mean everything, and are often the difference between a great game getting a sequel or being scrapped forever. So yes, sales are important.

OT: Gitaroo Man, I think everyone who loved it knew it was far too Japanese to ever get mainstream Western attention, but it's still my favourite rhythm game of all time (and I bought and played Britney Spears' Dance Beat just to make sure) and a shitty PSP port hardly does it justice.

Also, I don't know how it was received at the time, but I've always loved Enix's Illusion of Gaia more than the Zelda games it copied; but I think it's largely been dismissed as a pretender to the throne.
