I wouldn't have played Persona 4 without the Escapist, which would have been something I regretted.
It's probably one of my favourite RPGs of all time.

Knights in the Nightmare and Radiant Historia, as reccomended by the Extra Credits crew. Of course, I think they'd already gone over to Penny Arcade by that point, but I wouldn't have known about them in the first place if not for the Escapist, so I think it still counts.

I'm also pretty sure I first heard about Kingdom of Loathing here, although my relationship with that game didn't last long.

From the forums: Nothing I've read in the forums as made me pick up a game.

From the writers: Yatzhee inspired me to pick up Psychonauts and Bastion, and I don't regret picking up either.

If you liked that you may like this... when/if it ever comes out...

As far as the escapist ever giving me a pro tip on a game... can't say that I have ever got into a game simply from something I had seen here... ironically Corruption of Champions could be the first... which I heard about in this thread... funny how that works.

Discovered FTL, and Star Command about the same town when I was doing my own proto-typing for a game loosely based on code work from this game a couple years back.

Then again SSI created a ton of IP that is still fodder for all kinds of stuff...

I bought both Spec Ops: The Line and Hotline Miami, both on Yahtzee's recommendation and the surrounding recommendation by the Escapist community. They now simultaneously bear the title of my GOTY for 2012. I can't decide which I like better.

EDIT: I'm glad someone mentioned Painkiller, because I completely forgot. I probably wouldn't have tried it if not for this site.

PS. I hope I'm one of the people who got folks to play The Walking Dead. That would make my day.
Well then prepare to have your day made, 'cause you were.

I saw Metro 2033 put on a pedestal a few times, so I picked it up last Friday for twenty bucks on PC. Totally worth it, the games mechanics itself are nothing to write home about, and neither are the textures, but they do the job. It's the atmosphere and world that are really what makes it worth it. A beautiful collage of death, destruction, despair, chaos, and underneath it all, hope. Brilliant game.

Probably Bastion, like many others (though I got it part of the HIBV). Also, Dark Souls. I had heard about it before, but it wasn't until people here kept talking about it that I finally decided to get it.

Also, I plan on getting The Walking Dead, thanks to this site, probably when I get my return

Hmm, maybe not new games but Ive been moved to replay games because of Escapist, such as New Vegas and Oblivion. No offence or agro intended, but I've yet to meet anyone on Escapist who look to for those kind of suggestions.

Well Daystar, watching you salivate all over Journey was what pushed me over the edge and buy it. And it was good.

There's also various other games I discovered by reading about them on the forums: Psychonauts, Metal Arms: Glitch In The System, Eternal Darkness, Arx Fatalis and a bunch of others.

Yahtzee introduced me to System Shock 2, while singing its praises in the Bioshock review, which turned out to be a fantastic game. Also, former Escapist member Furburt, introduced me to The Longest Journey, which I now consider to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Thanks Escapist!

Quite a few, actually:

Spec Ops: The Line, Katawa Shoujo, Mount and Blade, Dishonored, the Mass Effect franchise and Dragon Age: Origins (the only one I'm not happy about :p).

Between the Escapist and TB, it's really 'improved' my gaming habits. :D

Haven't really from anyone on here since the same games get the same amount of praise and the same other ones get panned and then there's games I like (Transformers WFC & FOC for example) that just seem to fly off everyone's radar on here.

However there are some other sites like Eurogamer and Destructoid that have convinced me to want to buy myself a Wii U and a PS4.

I think that happened with me for The Walking Dead. I had really no interest in a Telltale game and no memory of wanting it before i bought it. It was on sale and I was hearing hype from here.

I had heard the name Katawa Shoujo but I had never really understood what it was before an article came up talking about it. I'm playing through it and not once have I been bored or disappointed yet.

Recettear: an Item Shops Tale I found through a news post and then again when EC was still on here.

I guess Psychonauts. I've heard people praise the game but it was Yahtzee who first got me a tiny bit curious.

Technically I've splayed depression quest by starting on the first set of options but I haven't sat down for it yet. A thread and an news post told me about it.

Protein Pirates, Gnoming around, Caesar's Day off, Cheese & Punishment, Hamal, Soledad, Dawnseed, The Garbage collector Because Indie Speed Run.

Painkiller Black because Fuck Yeah, Yahtzee!

Peggle Extreme Because Fuck Yeah Yahtzee! I guess.

Just Cause 1 Because of Yahtzee's review of 2. I haven't started 2 yet because I like to play things in order.

Don't Touch My Gems, Talesworth Adventures... Fuck, let's just say everything in Alt Escape.

Bioshock 2 but I think my curiosity got the better of me while this site was trying to tell me to not play it. Oops.

Not Pacman. I don't mean the escapist made me disinterested in Pacman, I mean a game called Not Pacman which isn't Pacman I found through this site. Good thing to because I liked Not Tetris.

Quantum Conundrum because this site actually told me what this game was like.

Also, there is a user called Sweetshark I think, who in a thread or two talked about a text role playing game where you could do some weird shit in it called Corruption of Champions. That night I found out what that game really was. I woke up the next day in some piss alley two towns over with one new scar and one less kidney.
