For me it's Bulletstorm.

I originally dismissed the game, saying it looking like cheap, juvenile trash designed specifically to appeal to the lowest common denominator and that it looked boring as fuck, or something like that. I did all this without even playing the demo. Silly me right?

But recently I was going through a game drought and kept looking up Bullestorm gameplay videos and thinking "Huh, it does kind of look fun." I downloaded the demo and had almost the same reaction and thought "Well it's cheap now so it couldn't hurt, plus there's nothing else to play out right now." I made a thread on here (and elsewhere) got a few positive recommendations and decided to go out and get it.

Now I've been playing the game for a couple of hours and having the time of my life. I've heard a lot of people say that this is what DNF should have been like, and I can see where they are getting that.

But this isn't the first time I've done this. I previously did the same thing with Saints Row 2, Lost Planet 2, MAG, and Crysis 2 (A lot of 2's), although I wouldn't say I LOVE Crysis 2, I just tolerate it a lot more than other games.

Infamous. I played the demo when it first came out at thought it was boring. Didnt help that prototype has far more exiting movement and I played that near the same time. Slowly jump up ledges on buildings? Or FUCKING RUN UP THEM to steal helocopters!!!

Anyway I got in on the PSN freegames and played it and found it rather enjoyable. Not "love" but it was a whole lot better this time around.

Weird that the demo completely unsold me on a game...

For me, it was the Harvest Moon series. Way, way back when I was in high school, my friend tried to get me to try HM 64, and I was just, "...farming sim? wut?" She finally convinced me to try it, and I've been hooked ever since.

Mass effect 2. Initially i hated the fact that it had changed so much. Then i played the demo. And then i got the game. And now i use it as an example in conversations.

Minecraft. I messed about in single player for a bit, got bored, then left it for ages. Came back when a friend joined it and we got a decent server to go on. I've been loving it since.

For me it was GTA4. Originally, i was disappointed as i expected it to be similar to the previous iterations in the franchise with its wacky huour and such. As a result, i couldnt even finish my first playthrough, basically disowned it, and chucked it on the pile.

Then, couple of months later, i was having a gaming drought, so i thought i'd pick it up again. HOLY CRAP. It really hit me 2nd time round, the characters, the story, everything just locked into place for me.

The game is now sitting at 2nd in my top 3 games of all time. Well played, Rockstar. Well played.

I had the same feeling about Infamous, and now it's kind of fun. In fact, I wish Sucker Punch games would be able to get the rights to Spiderman. I think they could make a great balance between Web-Slinging and mission solving and make them both fun.

OT: I hated Bully, the PS2 game, years ago. Just bought it yesterday from Gamestop, and it's actually kind of fun. I'm glad I'm not immune to everything Rockstar makes, because I cannot play the GTA games (Vice City is the Diamond in the Rough out of all the GTA Games) and I can beat Manhunt and L.A. Noire? So except for Bully and Red Dead Redemption, I'm hoping I can do their non-GTA games better than anything else.

I hated Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion the first time I played it, as well as Fallout 3. I guess I just didn't get them, but later I picked them up again and loved them once I finally understood how the games worked.

KOTOR 2. I hit a pretty massive bug early on in the game, and quit. A month or so later, I tried it again and I loved it.

For a while I really didn't like Super Mario World. I had no idea why everyone liked it so much and got angry when people compared it to Mario 3. But I was bored one day and I tried giving it another chance and something just clicked. I can see why everyone likes it now. The same sort of thing happened with OK Computer, although that's not really a game. I wonder what an OK Computer game would be like... You just keep walking forward because you have no free will and every aspect of your life is controlled by malicious outside forces? I'm getting off topic now...

The elder scrolls: Morrowind. First time I played, I hated every moment of it! Specially the horrible combat where you swing a sword at a monster that's litteraly 2 feet away from you and somehow you miss like 50% of the time. I put it away and didn't look at it again until i went to a friends house, he was playing it and was telling me how it was the best game he has ever played, showing me cool swords or armor he got in the game.

Later that night I went back home and played a bit more of it. To this day, I feel it is the best game I have ever played in my life.

Same with me, I disliked Fallout 3 a lot as well, but went back later and played it and loved it and then went and bought New Vegas a day after I finished Fallout 3 just so I could get more Fallout goodness.
I hope the same happens to me with Oblivion, I originally bought it and 4 other games when I first got an Xbox 360, played for an hour and got bored. Eventually the 360 RROD on me, got it repaired and sold it to my friends brother, 3 years later Skyrim is coming out and it looks EPIC, it makes me want to go back and give Oblivion another shot, needless to say I have got it sitting on my coffee table waiting until I Platinum InFamous 2, once that is done Oblivion gets iits chance at redemption, hopefully with the same result as what Dstreet121 has.

Funny how my favorite games/series were first games I hated.
The first time I played FFX, KH, and Persona 3 were all the same. I disliked it and ended up chucking the controller. Yet somehow I ended up playing the games again "and the rest, as they say, is history."

Can't imagine where I could be as a gamer without those 3 games under my belt.

inFamous won't say I loved it but based off the demo I thought it was an overrated piece of shit with bad controls. The story is better than Prototype but gameplay fails in comparison.

Final Fantasy XIII. I first saw a banner ad for it somewhere and thought "Pshh, good effort, but I'm not biting". Then I saw some good reviews and decided to just go and get it, almost off a whim. 55 hours of gaming later, I was satisfied with my purchase.
