This isn't meant to be like "wow, that game really sucked, I wish it didn't exist." It's meant to be more like "how did they actually manage a game out of that?" My contribution is the fact that there is more than one game based on Micheal Jackson... how do you make a game out of that? In fact, I really don't understand games based on any musicians, like that one old Aerosmith game. What games does the Escapist think were based on a little too far-fetched of topics?

Pretty much every Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare. I mean seriously, they're not even good games, it's just that they're so well marketed, advertised and so on that people are pretty much programmed to love them.

Oh, and every Guitar Hero game since the existence of DLC.

Agreed. There's only so many plastic instruments that should be allowed to exist at one time, and the way Guitar Hero and Rock Band are distributed is crazy. I've been disillusioned ever since Guitar Hero III, after a moderately lengthy addiction to all such games. I haven't played any rhythm games at all in like a year though.

Just no. Although the DLC - apart from Shivering Isles - is indeed pretty much shit. Mehrunes Razor and Horse Armour were utter poppycock.

I still love it though.

Games I really think should not exist: Modern Warfare 2. I know I'm beating a dead horse but what a shitty game that was. It's unbelievable - with funding like that, and they still manage to fuck it all up!

New Super Mario Brothers Wii

Kinect

Playstation move

I know these aren't games, but i still say they shouldn't exist.

The sooner the games industry gets over this whole "motion control" fad the better

Pretty much. The game pretty much exists as a "have a few drinks with your friends and warble your way through cheesy songs" game, which would work a lot better if there was just a giant master-list of songs, since the core gameplay hasn't changed significantly since they added the full band ensemble.

I just file stuff like that under, "I'm not buying it so I don't need to care".

OT: Most FPS's and TPS's nowadays. I don't get why everyone is so retarded over the unending surly gunman adventures of Grizzle T. McGrizzlington.

Knights of the Nine was quite good, as well the Castle one, but yeah the rest sucked.

SimCity?
I like SimCity though. I'm just curious as to how someone went about thinking of it.
Action? Adventure? TAXES?!

Baynonetta is not a ripoff of God of War. If anything, it's a ripoff of Devil May Cry (which came before GoW), but you can't even say that, because Bayonetta is made by the guy who INVENTED Devil May Cry.

So yeah...you should really stop getting all of your gaming opinions from Yahtzee, or at least when you do, you should fully pay attention to what he's saying, instead of just the gist of it.
First.. who is yahtzee? you mean that bored game with dice? im very comfused on what you meant by this.

Well I play my games before I judge them and that is what I thought, I thought gow and bayonetta wer very similar and did not like them at all and i understand the connection you are speaking about of devil may cry.

I think most people stopped reading after the title. :|

My vote would actually have to go to Minecraft. How can a sandbox full of pixelated blocks, and absolutely no structured goals, make a fun game? Well I don't know, but Notch certainly did it!

it lets creative people be creative, if you have any imagination then it can be more than fun, i think you have not played it at all, 1 important thing you should have thought of before you posted that is that the game is not yet finished, it will reach beta on dec 20th and Notch has plans of actually adding structured goals and maybe a bit of story.

Katamari. I'm amazed - and glad - that it actually got made, because conceptually it sounds like the worst videogame ever.

I have played it, I love it, and I am quite aware of Notch's plans for the game.

This thread is about games which sound terrible or ridiculous on paper - not a thread to hate on your least favourite games for the millionth time, as some people seem to think.

Don't worry, I love Minecraft. :D

Yahtzee's a game critic on the Escapist and he rips off almost anything. It's called Zero Punctuation, you should go watch it.
