Games you refuse to play

I refuse to play the following:

- The Battlefield series:

What's the point? I've already got a bunch of Call of Duty games. I'm not gonna go out and get more of something I've already got (especially since my main reason for playing CoD is playing online with friends).

- World of Warcraft:

I tried the 14 day trial and got bored of it after a couple of hours, I'm just not interested in it (and plus avoiding that soul sucking abomination of a game is probably good for my health and mental well-being as well).

- Any future Half Life titles:

Again, it's just a series I've never liked that much. I was majorly let down by Half Life 2 and ever since I've had a bit of a chip on my shoulder about it.

- The F.E.A.R. series:

I tried the first one and thought it was a bland, repetitive shooter. I would have forgiven it for this if it weren't for the fact that it was supposed to be scary and...it was about as scary as the Doom movie (less than actually, at least in Doom the monsters actually showed up before halfway through the damn thing and they didn't try ripping off The Ring).

- Diablo III:

They took the Paladin out. Yes, I'm going to be that petty, they took my favourite class out so now I refuse to play it ever (not to mention the lack of single player from what I've heard).

Well...

I did the demo but:

Blue Dragon
Infinite Undiscovery (or whatever it's called)
The Last Remnant
Gears of War 3 (HORRIBLE STORY on the last 2)
Eternal Sonata

And pretty much any RPG that gets a poor rating.

I don't EVER suggest Dragon Age 2.

---

Additionally, horror games and sport games (though I've never been asked to play one and probably would capitulate if I was, but I don't like the concept).

Possibly the new StarCraft expansions though I have 2, so most likely will get them, but I definitely won't be doing Diablo 3 the way things are going, nor any new MMO's save The Old Republic.

Ditto on F.E.A.R. it was a repetitive FPS that struggled to get through without knowing where to go or having any real guidance and in the end it was just a bad thing, the demo for 2 and 3 was equally bad.

Oh and Resistance 3 is unlikely as Resistance 1 outside of Killzone was the worst game I've had the mispleasure to play, and Resistance 2 was just HORRIBLE AI, story, and literally was designed to make you die 300 times and constantly restart checkpoints and checkpoint-running is not my style of gaming as that's poor design.

Army of Two (Plus Sequel) because when I was at a game design university for a year or so everyone just swooned over the crap-shoot of that game when it was in the lounge and cafe area on the big screen tv's (not really big) and it was just pathetic.

Counter Strike - Source. THE LITERALLY WORST GAME EVER CREATED because it is ENTIRELY unrealistic in physics and graphics, and ENTIRELY populated by the most juvenile, vulgar, and idiotic adults ever.

------

Final Edit:

ALL OLD GAMES THAT I COULD NOT GRAPHICALLY ENJOY NOW

Don't care if they are the God of all games... it is an EYE STRAIN to look at poor graphics when my mind and eyes are adjusted to the good stuff... I spent money on getting good graphic cards and the updated version of consoles, and I will NOT suddenly go play Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Chrono Trigger, or ANY old game.

I'm sorry for the double post but I saw this after I wrote and just had to comment.

Okay let me begin by saying I'm a game programmer and do actually like to point out why I don't like .
Are you actually a programmer? Who do you work with? What games have you worked on? Can you prove any of this?

What is the air-speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?

Nintendo-Mario, Sonic, and anything else that might come out of that industry is just outright garbage. They use kids and the whole idea of kid friendly games absolutely wrong, "If we keep making games, people will buy them despite being utter crap made by complete amateurs, and to add to it...LET'S END ALL SUPPORT FOR THEM, YEA!".

Seriously, I'm sorry but I hope the dies in a fire somehow, it is a great idea turned so horrible I can't even explain it because anything with a great idea that made on to this platform became rather garbage. Level design is terrible, and most games are labeled drinking games because they are so bad that either kids that do not understand 1+1, or those too intoxicated might enjoy from laughing at its stupidity.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed Mario when it first came out, it is true, however please let it stay that way for me, and don't milk the serious for money you don't need you greedy hog Nintendo.
Allow me to quote you then when you said 'utter crap made by complete amatuers', unless you're a professional programmer yourself with at least one commercially successful project under your belt then aren't you a 'complete amatuer' as well?

As for you wishing the curse of Cromwell upon the developers of Sonic and Mario, I'm not a huge fan of those games either but I think wishing burning hellfire on someone may be a bit extreme.

For a game dev who said they were going to explain why they didn't like the games all you've done is say that you thought the level design was stupid (without really elaborating on why).

Why were they stupid? How would you have improved them? What limitations would your suggestions possibly have?

Just what is the air-speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?

Gears of War. I played the first one, played the multiplayer, tried co-op. Needless to say I was dissapointed in how crappy the game came out. It looked polished with gritty graphics that made it a "Real" warzone, the characters are pumped so full of steroids you cannot possibly imagine to relate to such characters making it into just a killing fest for the insane. Kill this, kill this some more, enjoy your refreshing cool-aid on your face as you wait for your teammate to come by. Oh wait....the camera is not working in that corridor? Well too bad enjoy mindless gaming.

I was so utterly dissapointed in this game, and how it utilized such a great engine. The story is made so that the game would milk your money as you buy DLC, among other things to think you'll ever be as cool as a steroid junkie. Seriously, where does all this money go? Instead of actually polishing every last bit of dirt in this game I do not know where it all went. Neither do I care because I hate that game.

Multiplayer....go jump around with a shotgun some more, you skillfull bastard, oh wait the maps are so small that all you need to win the game is "Who's first to get the rocket-launcher?" Very intuitive. Crappy level design for the maps and the whole idea of this cover based shooter that turned into who can jump around for longer is ridiculous. That's contradicting the entire main parts of the game, using cover and using strategy to get to the objective.
Again, I'm beginning to believe that you aren't really a game programmer because rather than saying what precisely you didn't like the game and how you would improve it (something I would expect from someone looking at these games from a professional and analytical standpoint) you just seem more eager to rant and complain about stuff you don't like.

The camera doesn't work? How? Why did it go wrong? What would be a better alternative?

The game was mindless? How would you have added depth? What mechanics do you feel were too simplified or missing? What mechanics did you feel weren't utilised to their full potential? How would you go about changing this?

The DLC wasn't even related to the story mode (for the most part it was just map packs for the multiplayer) and your main problem with the setting and narrative (something that as a programmer you aren't largely involved with anyway) was that it had a broken down and gritty look as well as the fact that the player characters were all large and muscular.

Given the oppertunity to take over the artistic design and concept art of the game, how would you have changed this to enhance the experience?

I will now point out that I'm not a game programmer or even remotely involved in the development process, although, I have written a few reviews for a friend's website in my free time (and have some on here) if that counts as experience or expertise.

I don't bother with wasting my time worrying about trivial shit like this and just buy their games for my Xbox 360. I guess PC elitists are going to have to admit that it's a better alternative than not buying the games at some point.

I have boycotted the Halo series, as well as UbiSoft games, EA games, and Activision games. It sucks a very large amount that I won't be able to buy Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age 2.

I boycott Halo for its suckiness, and everything else because of their business practises.
Not buying a game because you don't like to play it is not boycotting. Don't be so dramatic.

OT: Most Nintendo games I usually avoid because I find it annoying that they get away with running their entire business on nostalgia.

No manner of cosmical or divine influence could get me to even touch a Kingdom Hearts game.

I fucking hate Final Fantasy and I fucking hate Disney, the combination of the two can be nothing short of my Antichrist.

Also, what sort of fucking drugs were they on when they came up with that combination, because I'd like some.
Well Disney and Square were probably talking (I don't know why) and Square realized that they had a massive amount of overly depressed characters that needed the particular Disney magic of a child teaching them how to be happy. Then they realized they both also like money and voila Kingdom Hearts.

I boycot any and all games that stink of money (Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, Battlefield, Command & Conquer 4, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Final Fantasy 13 etc) and are surrounded by a fanbase so ravingly rabid it makes a pack of hyenas high on laughing gas look dopey.

Same with MMORPG's, in that they obnoxiously encourage endless grinding to waste your lifetime away, plus it's always PvP this and PvP that. No respect for people who want to just get into end-game PvE, and even then there are only dipshits to be found who hog all the loot and diss the healers because they're too busy Leeroying the bosses to read up the proper tactics.

Madden. Until the rights EA has to the nfl that ensures no one else can use nfl players and teams but them expires; they can basicly put out the same recycled game every year. No competition= no reason to care about the quality of games you put out, especially if everyone keeps buying them.

Well there are games that I don't have much inkling to play, games I dislike and games that, to me, can go fuck themselves.

But refuse to play? Certainly not, there aren't games out there wherein you play as Hitler and get electric shocks every ten seconds (that's something I'd REFUSE to play).

Portal.

I quite honestly refuse to play any game that has a fan following that act like a bunch of self-righteous twats who know exactly one joke that they never shut the fuck up about, and also have a tendency to flip the fuck out upon the revelation that yes, some people have not played Portal in this strange world. WEIRD RIGHT? RITE GAIZ? ALSO DA CAEK IS TEH LIE LOLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLLOLOLOLOLOLLOL

This might set some people off: Mass Effect games

I played through the first one, at first I found it boring, but I stuck with it. It had started to suck me in a little, and I was just starting to really like it, when the game ended.
What ever happened to the days what RPGs were pretty much required to be massive? It's been ages, but if I remember rightly, Mass Effect took me about 5 hours to complete.

I wouldn't say I refuse to play them, but I don't play RTS's. I don't care what people say, but I find I have less control over what I'm doing playing an RTS than any other kind of game. I like to personally shoot enemies. I like to aim and put rounds into their kneecaps, then go "WTF!?" when they die from those two shots...instead of clicking once. And then clicking again if someone doesn't do what I tell them the first time.

Aside from that, there is nothing I refuse to play because of some bullshit moral standard. I'll play anything, and if I don't have fun after a while, I'll stop playing it.

Guitar heroes and similar rhythm games. Thing is, I'm not bad at some of them (yes, I tried most, hence the reason I refuse to play them now), I just don't get any fun out of them, not even the music since I'd usually be too busy watching the screen. The only time I do get to enjoy the music is when someone else is playing.

Company of Heroes is a good game and the OP just sucks at it.

"Refusing" to play a game makes no sense anyway.

Not having any interest in playing a game is normal and list of games people won't play because they have something better, would fill a booklet for each member here.

The point is: it's no big deal.

What a silly thread.

I refuse to play anything from Valve. I don't like the company and what I have seen of their games I was never impressed, overhyped crap basically in my opinion
