Mine would have to be Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, Super Smash bros melee (even if brawl will be amazing melee will always have a place in my heart) and Rock Band

I'm always going to play Megaman 4. It was awesome, due to it being the first of the series to have all the abilities the games from then on had. That, and I'd play Metroid Prime over and over and over again, due to its enticing stoy and epic fun of its quasi freeroam environment.

Counter Strike. I've been playing since late 2000/early 2001 and even with three-six month breaks shoved in occasionally I keep on coming back. Even though I finally switched to Source I still count it as the same game and it can't be surpassed by any other obsession I've ever had even Everquest which only lasted two and a half years. It makes my many RTS obsessions look pathetic.

I've played Tetris for more years but nowhere near an obsession just a hobby. Sim Tower keeps me coming back, however, I usually do a tower every few months to a year so it's not like I continually play it. Other than that the only games I've played for a number of years that challenges CS are Solitaire, Minesweeper and Freecell but they don't really count...

I never played counter strike. My first FPS I really got into would have to be Delta Force Land warrior, fun game although the AI is so bad I could never go back to it. The only old FPS I could play is battlefield 1942

well you could obviously play WoW forever...

but other than that- Call of Duty 4, since when you reach the highest level possible on the online multiplayer, you can activate prestige mode and start over, but with the badge next to your name that means that you are so hardcore you made it all the way to the top and now are doing it again

Defcon... It's amazing how often tactics change and develop.

The simplicity of the mechanics belies just how incredibly tactical and strategic you must be. And given that it is not a join-the-dots RTS, no one knew the best strategies. The first 6 months saw massive shifts in gameplay style. even now strategies are generate and evolve all the time.

And Old Skool worms of course

Master of Magic. I am a huge RTS and TBS freak. I've played nearly all of them I could find, and this is the one I keep going back to. Even given that Age of Wonders is a blatant rip off, I still play MoM instead. Although, Dawn of War was pretty damned awesome and I will play any expansions/editions they make for that.

The original Pool of Radiance (all the 'gold box' adventures for that matter), Wizardry, and Bard's Tale (1,2, and 3) Every now and again, I get this sick NEED to destroy critters while wondering about perfect grid mazes. Even with Etrian Odyssey, Orks and Elves, Mazes of Fate, etc out for DS/GBA, I will pop these back in (thank you DoxBOX!) and stomp already well stomped ground.

XCOM: Terror from the deep.
Starcraft.
Master of Orion (I or II).

J

@monodiabloloco, I played MOM in the last year. It brought back some good memories (but I always played as Human, as Palladins ruled all).

Ages of Empires II, on and off. I'll not touch it for months, then play for a week. For me, it has deep nostalga value. Brittish Accents are involved

Anything put out by Valve. Why not play through the half-life series once or twice a year?

doom 1 & 2. i don't play it constantly, but every once in a while i fire it up and it's always a blast. the frenetic gameplay still holds up against the more realistic modern shooters.

starcraft. the depth of strategy in this game...unmatched!

X-Com: Ufo Defense/Enemy Unknown
Deus Ex (The Original)
Defcon

I just found how to make X-Com work again on a new machine, and have been hooked.

Nobody could play a N64 game forever... The controllers simply won't last very long.

Why is it that the best console ever released had to have the most flimsy and breakable controller? That center joystick is usually pretty damn worn out after 100 hours of play, and completely DEAD after just 10 hours of Mario Party.
I have put in WAY more hours that 100 onto both of my N64 controllers. In fact since me, my dad and my brother all played through about half a dozen games it must be fairly significantly more than 100 hours...

On topic...

I would have said Guild Wars and Counter-Strike but i seem to have kicked both habits happily. :)
