I probably have different tastes than 99% of this forum but:

Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns (an RTS/RPG that had an awesome community)
Deus Ex
Baldur's Gate II SoA (ToB was meh...)
Front Mission (2nd favorite TBS of all time)
Ys: Oath of Felgana
and...
Heroes of Might & Magic II (best TBS of all time)

Ahem! Did you forget Heroes Of Might And Magic 3 the complete series?

Anyway I'll have to agree with the bulk of you and say HL1, 2 and all the expansions and episodes. I love Freeman. Fallout 1 and 2. Starcraft and Geometry Wars.

Kinda surprised no-one's said it yet but Civilisation will be played until the end of time. I've been playing civilisation 3 for the past 4 yeasr or so, still not sick of it. Before that it was civ 2 for 6 years. I'll always return to anything made by valve, but I've not played anything as consistently on the pc as civilisation. Heroes is also awesome, but it gets a bit old after a while.

Fighting games: Tekken never gets old (apart from Tekken 4, which was dirge). Street fighter three is the best 2d fighter ever made, no exceptions. I f'ckin love that game :)

Rez'll also get played every once in a while, just to remind myself of how awesome it was and is....

I'm surprised there's so many rpgs on here, because i've always found that once the story and side quests are done, theres nothing else to come back for... but maybe that's just me.

Oh almost forgot, Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Super Puzzle Fighter 2. Best puzzle games ever :)

I've played wc3 since it came out and I'll continue playing it at least until SC2 comes out. And, if SC2 turns out to not be my thing I'll continue playing it. A game I can play forever, however, is Melty Blood (or the most recent version of it). I've already played the shit out of it, but it never gets boring to me. Best controls in a fighter ever!

My top five:

5. Starcraft. Just such a great, classic game. Really love it.

4. Icewind Dale (and the sequel, though the expansions for the original can go fall in a hole and die in a fire). I'm a sucker for the Infinity Engine games. :D

3. Star Trek Armada 2. I know, it's a pretty bad game, but I really love it. Always have, always will.

2. Warcraft 2 and 3 (with expansions). See the Starcraft entry, but add "Zug zug!"

1. Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (and Throne of Bhaal). Perhaps the greatest game I have ever played. With over 200 hours of playtime, and more mods than I know what to do with, BG2 reigns in my heart as my favorite game of all time, and the only one I will NEVER give up, no matter what. GO FOR THE EYES BOO, GO FOR THE EYES!!!!!

NINJAEDIT: Oh, and yeah, I almost forgot #0.5

0.5: Lemmings, the original. If loving little green haired blue suicidal freaks makes me a bad person, then chalk me up as the worst person to ever live. :D

This is a >duh< for me, though I am VERY surprised not to have seen anyone else post this.

Quite simply, non-Source Halflife....as well as:
Day of Defeat (my all-time fave mod), Blueshift, Opposing Force, Poke646 ( a biznitchin' mod), Sven coop....you guys probably get the idea. Sadly, though I swallowed the HL pill when initially dispensed by Nurse Ratchet, I am stricken with less than leet skilz...but the fizzun is the fizzun!

Also:
BF 1942, CoDutys, RTCW....and many of the dozens of other PC titles on my shelves.

well multiplayer games are going to have to dominate this thread. you simply cant play the same single player campaign over and over again, theres no variation and it gets dull even if it is top quality.
I have to disagree. If you've got a memory like Swiss cheese (as I myself do), then you can happily replay single player games and still find them fresh! Of course, you may not wish to cause the irreparable brain damage required for this to work..

So, my two eternal games are:

1: Bubble Bobble. Twitchy single screen platforming fun.
2: Sky Odyssey. Endlessly inventive explore-em-up.

That said, I don't play them constantly. Just dust them off once or twice a year and binge on them for a week or two. And plan on doing so until my control pad breaks.

Sonic the Hedgehog and any of his mega drive incarnations will keep me going until my hands have long since atrophied into withered prune-like objects. Also Dungeon keeper 2 (if XP could play it) and any number of oldskool games like Nomad, Star Crusader and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Second that, sir. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is nirvana, as far as that's concerned.

day of the tentacle and indiana jones and the fate of atlantis. i'm revisiting both those games now and having a hoot!

i miss the point and click adventure genre.

they're coming out with new episodic sam and max games, and while they do not have quite the staying power of the old ones, they are a breath of fresh air for a genre that's basically dead. anyone interested should check em out!

on that note, that reminds me of another game i may play forever. hitman blood money, or whatever the third one is. kinda like the old adventure games, in that you had multiple ways to accomplish an objective (actually more in hitman than in some of those games) and you can sort of take your time and experiment. like an old school adventure game but with blood and murder

Currently, it feels like TF2 will last forever with me,

i think i will always go back to the Zelda games on the N64

any of the Super Smash Bros.

Starcraft/Starcarft 2 (when it comes out...hopefully)

and for some reason i keep going back to the KOTOR games, and probably will for a long time..., god i want a sequel!
