I saw Cold Fear in a store once, and I thought it looked quite interesting.
I didn't buy it, though as I didn't have any money at the time.

As time went by I would then find that it where nowhere to be seen, and I never even heard of it again before, years later, finding it used in one of those shops where you can sell your old games.
So I bought it and found out at home that it was actually quite disappointing.
It was basically just a really bad RE4 clone with awful animation, a laser sight you could barely see and a parasite thing that was pretty much just las plagua's with a diffrent name.

Are there any games you've wanted to try out for years before finally getting ahold of it and finding out that it was really just shit?
that is actually quite impossible as it only came out a few months after RE4, and it takes more than a few months to copy another game completely.
I dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if thats the time it took them to make it.

For those of you who actually like Kingdom Hearts...(I know i'm speaking to the minority here.) I waited for the second installment for nigh on 5 years...After playing KH2 I was extremely dissapointed, it's not a bad game, but the story fell over on itself so much they had to add little plasters of filler in the gaps, it ended up looking like a clay pot made by a 4 year old.

Far Cry 2. Loved the first one (despite stupid mutant things half way through) so as soon as the previews came out I was excited. Got it a few weeks ago, played for 2 days, got bored with the constantly respawning outposts, map and general malaise it inspired in me, sold it.

Alice, I had been hanging out for it since it was announced, but didn't have a good pc at the time. Then it was really hard to find, I managed to get my hands on a copy a couple of weeks ago, was worth the wait, such an awesome game.

aye... fable 2...

(and in responce to all the too human posts... didnt you play the demo? that made it pretty clear it sucked...)

whats always puzzled me is... who can look at their creation, in tatters, ready and waiting to fail... and do nothing about it? biggest exaple of which being too human...
all that money... and all that time... but in the end, i dont understand how anyone thought that was good enough?

Spore and MGS4:GotP. I must learn to keep those expectations low. And I will never watch trailers again. And important lesson, I just wish it hadn't been so painful.

Hellgate: London.

By far the single worst game purchase I have ever purchased.
I remember watching the trailer for it with a friend and drooling long before its release. Such a horrible let down, which cost me top $$.

Edit: You have to be joking! Not one other mention of Hellgate: London.
People complaining about HL2 when this game exists....

HAlf-Life (but maybe thats just because I played HL 2beforehand, high expectations and what have you).
I think that could be a reason why I didn't like the first either.

I once heard of "Combat Flight Simulator 3: Battle Of Europe" and after some research I almost fell in love with it. Flying with realistic planes from the Allies AND the Axis in the Second World War! A plane could even desintegrate when damaged too much.

It took over 2 years B4 I got my hands on it. First week after I played it, it was already collecting dust in my drawer.

It was nothing like I imagined it to be. Not fun at all. Controls that where streched over my whole keyboard. Planes stalling(when trying to get altitude) and desintergrating(when in a steep dive) way too fast. Controls that where gone after 5 hits from a 11,7mm.

I still have it, but I'm thinking of selling it...

Spore and GTA4...

Spore has some amazing technology inside it that is enough alone to make it a good toy, the game itself is dreadful though. I was massively disappointed with how dumbed down it had become, clearly in order to sell to the general casual audience who have no major love for RTS, Sim or RPGs, but would gladly accept any mediocre crap thrown at them.

With GTA4, during the time I played it I really enjoyed it, but once the story is over, is there REALLY any fun in trying to find 200 pidgeons, increase the pointless relationship with your 5 buddies, and find all hidden ramps? It doesn't really feel like a game for the most part, more just like a very cool interactive movie with A LOT of driving and some stupidly easy action sequences. It all looks very nice, but where's the GAME? It's more like an extremely dull, city-shaped sandbox, only it's not really filled with sand, it's filled with pebbles that just hurt your fingers when you move them around.

New Super Mario Bros. There's something very very wrong about a mario game that you can 100% on your first run through in less than 7 hours.
like to see how you did that. getting 3 stars takes ages.

If you are referring to the Star Coins, they were bloody easy. The only one that gave me any trouble was the final one in the final castle, and that's only because i wanted to be nice to the developers and not resort to the Mega Cheating Mushroom to clear the path.

That's because all the people who purchased a life time subscription to Hellgate have off'd themselves.

hmmm.. A lot of people are just naming games that they were disappointed with rather than games that you picked up years after release and then were disappointed with.

Anyways for me probably Shadow of the Colossus, It's a really cool game and I have gone through it but it was forced all the way through. The awkward controls, slow downs and camera were all too evident. Really hope they make another one so they can fix these problems.

I was about to pint this out too. One I had an experience with was:
Ephemeral Fantasia

I finally got it after many years of thinking, "I'd like to play that" but finally seeing it in the bargain bin, new.

Found out it's very non-linear, very repetitive, and tests your patience a lot - things I would not have had a problem with back in the day, but now almost 30yrs old, I find to tax my patience too much.

Edit:
Oh and "Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge", and "Tiberium Sun".

both of these C&C games were hot "new releases" and finally when I got them, three years later, turns out they are ... um.. bleh... not my taste

Spore.

I was looking forward to that game for a full year and.. well I had fun for three days, but it couldn't entertain me longer than that. Such a let down.

NFS Pro Street.

WTF EA Blackbox !!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the 'going the simulation road' to 'spice things up' but it never geled. It looked rushed, missing stuff or just too much 'stuff'. Horrible menus, gameplay that felt it wanted to be both simulation and arcade that didn't work, ear bleeding soundtrack, lame tracks.

RIP Need for Speed
