US retailer GameStop, meanwhile, has expressed interest in purchasing GAME, but does not want to take over its Australian stores.

Following a $3bn Christmas trading period, the retail giant is reportedly interested in moving into UK and Spanish regions, despite recently closing stores in Portugal and Northern Ireland.

It was previously linked with a move to take over the now defunct high street chain Woolworths in 2008.
This would save a lot of jobs and help prop up what is the number two market for games in the world. If Gamestop does this I support them fully in this.

From what I hear of Gamestop there won't be a huge noticable change in the way they work. In fact, when I first started reading about Gamestop, I checked to make sure that they didn't own GAME.

From what I've heard of Gamestop they're not a very nice company. That being said, it's still better than the alternative. If we lose GAME, people lose jobs and we lose Gamestation (which would suck).

And as they said on Eurogamer, you need a specialist shop so you can try stuff out, and to sell smaller titles. Places like supermarkets won't sell stuff like Binary Domain as it wouldn't make them money. It'd be COD and FIFA ¬_¬

Although I am in America and ultimately will not be affected by this in anyway I support Gamestop here. Not only is it a decent enough business decision, but it also is a good way to win over some critics.

Gamestop needs some competition. I don't know if GAME is doing terrible or what since I live in America, but I'd prefer Gamestop not having a monopoly. It's not like they're super cheap either, all the pawn shops or used media stores sell cheaper and have older titles. The only thing they are good for is the fact they are the only game specialized selling shop so they have a bigger collection (in my area).

There is pretty no way they come off as the bad guy in this scenario.

Well thats all good and all but I cant see GAME reversing its fortunes unless there are serious changes i.e start hiring people who actually have a good gaming knowledge (some do but a lot dont including or should I say especially the managers). Secondly they need to actually start being a specialist shop and actually start stocking a variety of games not just the ones they think are popular, odds are people can get these `popular` games cheaper elsewhere anyway.

Oh and it would be nice if they stocked more than a few PSP and PC games as well.At the moment their pricing is stupidly expensive admittedly they are probably trying to get as much return as possible but im afraid its not going to work that way seriously some of the games I can get 50% cheaper (or more online).

Saving jobs is all well and good for most people but I think it may just be delaying the inevitable most people I know who used to shop at GAME now shop online its easier and cheaper with a much bigger catalog of games and the small descriptive text offers more help than a lot of GAME employees do.

Also GAME some demo pods would be nice you used to have them why not now? at least it would stand a better chance of getting people into the shop than just standing at the counter doing youre dazed guppy fish impression (mr Manager).

It doesn't really make much of a difference to me as I pretty much buy games solely digitally now. However if the current employees get to keep their jobs that's pretty cool, as the job market is pretty bad right now.

I've used the word "pretty" three times in that paragraph and that is annoying me...

I really do hope that this happens.
Being from the UK, I don't know much about Gamestop besides little bits I've read here and there, but I still hope they can save GAME. It might not be my favourite place to buy games, but I'd hate for GAME and, by extension, Gamestation, to go out of business. As others have said, specialist shops are needed. Whether you like the company or not, any loss of jobs is bad news.
