With the Xbox One out in the open, a lot of people are focusing on the whole used games thing, and now we know the true sinister motive for what EA recently did with their online passes. Of course they don't need them anymore, all games will have an online pass now! They, of course, failed to tell us the last part, but honestly some of you should have known better. (I bet all you white knights feel bad now. The company did win a solid gold turd for a reason)

HOWEVER, with all this EA talk, I think something flew under a lot of your radars; something possibly just as or more sinister:

Seriously, what the hell? Looking back on this otherwise underwhelming story and now being privy to the information we have now, it's safe to assume there is a big piece missing to this puzzle. After all, the whole used game thing can only hurt Gamestop on the surface, so what is it we aren't seeing? Pretty much everyone but the consumers knew about the used game thing, that's why it was a rumor from the start. Of course, I shouldn't have to point out the obvious, but I will. It doesn't make a lot of sense for a CEO to say he's excited for a device who's function is to put him out of business. So now it's time to make wild assumptions!

What on earth is the connection we're missing? What ever it is I can't see it being a good thing. EA may be crap, but Gamestop isn't exactly a reputable business either.

Well check the Gamestop used game prices... they haven't changed at all, these extra second hand fees aren't taking money out of their pocket they are taking it out of consumers pockets.

They also make more then a pretty penny from second hand hardware and all new sales so they aren't going anywhere fast.

I think it's a ploy. They're forcing us to look, and look carefully, at the new-box. They want us to realize "Hmmm, this is very inconvenient to any game I want to save a little money on.", sort of like a reverse Jack Thompson. Remember how Jack would BS about violent video games, and we'd ignore him and pay even greater attention to the gaes because he mentioned them? Would you believe that a CEO would deliberately draw positive attention to a system so that when you look it over, there is a good chance you might not approve? That is, rather than most people who pre-order without thinking about it> Can a game company CEO use reverse psychology to get people to drop Microsoft?

Basically it will probably work how sony online passes work with gamestop.

If you bought say a sony game or something they purchase a bunch of codes for like Batman arkarm city, when a customer purchases a used copy of those games an new valid online pass will print of the receipt.

So say the reactivation price of a second hand used game is like 40 bucks. Well expect gamestop to give no more then 5 to 10 bucks for a good looking xbox one disc and sell it for 50-55 bucks for the disc and a new activation code that will print on the receipt.

Gamestop takes the disc profit plus a portion for selling the reactivation pass.

It'll never die ;p
